Unwanted
Every society has the unwanted. They are the disabled, the orphans, the street rats, the ones who just don't fit in. In Embrei, the unwanted children are sent to a school to make them into productive citizens. Students learn crafts, train to be military officers, physicians, courtesans or spies, even learn magic if they have the ability. The rise of the middle class is directly attributable to the education provided by the school. Now the school is threatened by the Circle of Freedom, a group which wants to destroy the middle class so that the rich can rule unfettered. Two generations of students must fight the Circle to keep their school and their chance of a better life. Failure means death or life on the fringes of society as an unwanted. Lydi and her friends are going to do everything they can to keep that from happening even if it means learning from the experiences of the adults who teach them.
