Michael Catt, senior pastor of Sherwood Baptist Church and executive producer of the Georgia congregation’s runaway hit films Facing the Giants and Fireproof, is often asked why God has blessed their efforts in such a remarkable way. His answer is simple:“We have a praying church that is walking in unity. We pray over every ministry and every decision.”The Power of Persistence is Catt’s invitation to a prayer-without-ceasing way of life. Stories from scripture and personal ministry experiences attest to the prophetic and profitable work of prayer. Engaging chapters on prayers of penitence, learning from the Psalmist, praying for children, the lost, and in response to spiritual warfare guide us to a breakthrough level of communication with the God who is eager to hear our cries and accomplish His work through us.
Michael Catt was an American film producer, author, and senior pastor of Sherwood Baptist Church located in Albany, Georgia from 1989 until his retirement in 2021. He was an executive producer for the 2008 film, Fireproof.
Since opening this book, I have been inspired to work on my prayer life, which is something I have neglected. Prayer is not just a necessity to Christians, but a gift too, so utilize it. I was also reminded of a NF lyric, in his song “Oh Lord” - “It’s hard to answer prayers when nobody’s praying to you”
Michael Catt, whose remarkable ministry with Sherwood Baptist Church and Sherwood Pictures, is "changing the world from Albany, GA," unveils his secret: a vibrant, persistent prayer life and a prayer ministry. Once I started it, I couldn't put it down and would wake up during the night to continue reading and pray over what I was learning.
When I thought this was going to be a book about leadership and rugged persistence, I found it to be a very encouraging prayer manual. I highly recommend this with 4.5 stars. Something has to be outstanding to earn 5, but this was close.
