At age six, Jess Redman published a poem entitled “I Read and Read and Read All Day” in a local anthology. She knew then, reading her printed words in a real book, that she wanted to be an author when she grew up.

She spent the next couple of decades doing things like surviving middle school, traveling around the world, becoming a therapist, and having two kids. She wrote the whole time.

Then one day, she realized that she was probably an official grown up and it was time to try to get some more of her words printed in real books.

Her middle-grade debut, THE MIRACULOUS, was published by FSG/Macmillan in 2019. Her second middle-grade, QUINTESSENCE was published in 2020, and her third, THE ADVENTURE IS NOW will be out on May 4, 2021!

She still reads and reads and reads all day.

For Christmas this year, everybody is getting A SCREAM!

A crocheted version of Edvard Munch's 'The Scream', that is!

That's just one of the cute, though somewhat strange projects in this book. Each "softie" is by a different designer, so you have a varied assortment ranging from a stuffed dog that looks like something Granny used to make, to the truly bizarre "Robot Bear."

And the weirdest little project of them all?

Sgt. Pepper's Turtles!

They look like crocheted versions of the Fab Four in their iconic band uniforms...but, they're turtles.

Uh-huh!

I can't knit/crochet or any other crafty thing but sure enjoyed this book of strange creations. Maybe it is my affection for Ugly dolls, that makes me like this book. Personally favorites pg. 14 gotta get my own "The Scream" to be proudly displayed on my desk during SRC. I am currently trying to get our own branch "pocket gnome" p. 56 for the staff as a reason to make mischief of one kind of another. Altough if we get one, it will need to be a Dublin library leprechaun NOT a gnome.

There are literally only 3 crochet patterns in this book. Out of 22. The title is "More Softies Only a Mother Could Love: 22 Hapless but Lovable Friends to Sew and Crochet". This is probably better for crafters, pass if you crochet.
