"Be careful with your loyalty, girl. Power can be taken away in an instant, and your family's fate is your fate." Lady Aveline Tara has had her whole life set out for her. A normal one in which she spends her days at court as a loyal friend to the prince and her nights with her family. She's destined to become the Duchess of Kaelin, like her ancestors before her, and up until now, that seemed like a perfectly reasonable plan. The arrival of a foreign princess makes Aveline wonder if the life planned out for her is the life she truly wants. But more troubling than this new princess is the unspeakable decision that leads to a kingdom waging war on itself. When Avalia's throne of beauty becomes a crooked throne, a throne of lies and betrayal, Aveline discovers just how far people are willing to go for a crown. Avalia will never again be the same. When a kingdom torn in two threatens to destroy everything Aveline stands for and tests her loyalties, there is no more normal. Dive into the dramatic and enthralling world of the Triethos from authors Everly Folle and Grace Callidus.
I recently finished reading this book and it is SO GOOD! It is a perfect blend of every element a book requires. It's charming and sad and funny all at the same time and honestly I can't quite get over the greatness of it. It's extremely difficult to put the book down and characters and twists are sure to keep you engrossed.
Crooked Throne is a truly enjoyable debut novel from two delightful new authors, Everly Folle and Grace Callidus. Their writing brings to life a vivid fantasy world, but without needing to rely on magic or fantastic beasts to draw the reader in -- the engaging plot and characters stand on their own. The personalities and relationships are as vivid as the details of the world of Triethos, and throughout this book, you’ll go on a journey with a group of young adults who are discovering who they truly are, growing up, and finding themselves tested in unexpected ways.
The action and excitement will keep you turning pages, and before you know it, you’ll find yourself really hoping for things to happen (or not) to each of them. But people -- even villains -- are more complex than they seem on the surface, and Folle and Callidus lead you to explore the emotions and tensions you will develop about their characters.
Strong, female characters who can hold their own in a world of powerful men are the norm in this book, and a welcome departure from the name-brand famous princess stories that generally end up with the princess having to be saved by a prince. Similarly refreshing is the diversity we see among the cast of royals in this world, and you’ll also meet some really charming supporting characters such as Queen Enna.
I won’t be surprised if we see another book from Folle and Callidus with more stories of Aveline, Michela, Declan and Elianna. While the plot is definitely not left hanging at the end of the book, we know enough about the characters in Triethos now to know there are many more secrets being carried and stories waiting to be told. I for one am hoping for a sequel.
great book. I have to admit I am a product of the modern age so I haven't actually "read" a book in years. It took me a while to read the first 90 pages as I am used to walking around and listening to books on audible. Once I finally sat down to actually read like I use to I finished the rest of the book in an afternoon. I really enjoyed the story and there are some great minor scenes with great imagery ( the scene in the well comes to mind right away). It is was also very refreshing to read a story about honor, courage , family and friendship from authors I know to be less than half my age :) . I also found it surprising after sitting and thinking about the book how well it pertains to the current world we live in even though the book takes place in a fantasy world from the age of kings and courts and when speed of travel was limited by horseback. Looking forward to the next chapter in these authors' stories. Great job
