When Felicity Philips visits a wedding dress boutique only to find the owner strangled and posed, she finds herself unwittingly embroiled in yet another desperate investigation. The dead dressmaker has been stuffed into a near priceless one-off by a famous designer and somehow three of Felicity's brides have paid a deposit for it. Is one of them the killer? With arch-rival, Primrose Green, stirring things up and the palace decision on who will run the next royal wedding looming, Felicity needs to get ahead of the impending PR disaster and fast. But killer brides aren't her only concern. Her newest employee's old boss wants her to fire him and looks set to stop at nothing to make her do it, local P.I. Vince Slater is still trying to romance her knickers off, and there's a ghost in her office. I wonder who she'll hire to sort that out? Get ready for another frenetic adventure as Felicity Philips grabs her sassy cat, make-believe-superhero dog, and ninja niece, and sets out to uncover who wanted the dress badly enough to kill for it. She had better pray she does, because this is a dress to die for, and the killing might not be finished yet. Marriage. It can be absolute murder.
Let's start this off with an invitation to get some FREE books. No, you didn't read that wrong, we are talking about multiple free books. I love giving away free books because once people delve into the fast-paced mystery thrills I write, they go on to buy lots more.
When I wrote my first novel, Paranormal Nonsense, I was a Captain in the British Army. I would love to pretend that I had one of those careers that has to be redacted and in general denied by the government and that I have had to change my name and continually move about because I am still on the watch list in several countries. In truth though, I started out as a mechanic. Not like Jason Statham, sneaking about as a contract killer, more like one of those greasy gits that charge you a fortune and keep your car for a week when all you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.
At school, I was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, I won my first award. However, calling it my first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, I am having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and will claim to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in my head as they clamor to get out.
Now retired from the military, I live in the south-east corner of England with a pair of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, I doubt I will ever leave, the beer is just too good.
I love the way the author overlaps characters from one series to another. We’ve seen Tempest Michaels and Patricia Fisher appear in each other stories. This time, however, both Patricia Fisher and Tempest Michaels appear with Felicity Philips. Since they all live in the same “world”, then it just stands to reason that their stories should overlap at times. But it opens up such possibilities.
The storyline is tight and well written. The characters are great and pair that with the mental communication with her dog and cat, I found myself laughing right out loud. Felicity tries so hard to be proper and professional and yet finds herself in hot water, run-ins with police, and facing off with criminals.
If you love hi-jinks and non-stop action, then this is a definite addition to your TBR list. Although this is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. There’s no graphic sex or foul language.
I just love this series so much! Felicity has the most absurd crew one could imagine - Devil dog is the best! He believes he is a superhero - and, in fact, he acts like it when Felicity seems to be in danger, and he babbles so much, it's hilarious! In this story, the corpses are piling up and Felicity seems to get no nearer to solving the murder and when she does, there's a menacing environment and quite a few bruises. Amidst all these happenings, Vince appears again courting her, will she finally give in to his pleads? This is a great story, which will make you laugh and at the same time wonder who is the culprit. As a member of the author's ARC team, I downloaded a free copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
She’s no Patricia Fisher, but I think she might want to be. Felicity Philips is a wedding planner whose plans keep going awry.
Three women who have engaged her services want a one of a kind wedding dress. Unfortunately, they all want the same one. Enough to kill for it?
Women keep dying and not only is Felicity’s life threatened, she is losing business. If bad reviews and gossip keep running rampant she won’t have a shot of being the wedding planner for royalty.
Thank you, Mr. Higgs, for another book about Felicity and those pets who communicate with her and sometimes throw a wrench in the works.
***A special thank you to the author who provided a copy without charge.***
With a LOT of bodies littering the plot, this is a lovely complex mystery with a designer wedding dress as the central point which everything revolves around, there are murders, wedding plans, brides, a little bit of paranormal debunking, and a middle aged woman who can understand her dog and cat when they speak. The dog is delusional. There is a hint of unrequited romance as well, all mixed together to provide a lovely read. The book is amusing, and made me smile, even with all the murders. I can definitely recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a twisted mystery with fun characters.
Read books in order, you will love this adventure! WOW! What a twisted, mess of yarn that was. The person who you thought you knew, was not the person you believed They were. You lost a friend and was accused of her murder? Then had people dying left, and right? To protect your business You try to find the culprit yourself. Only to start losing the jobs You worked so hard to get!? What a waste of talent C****** was A very talented seamstress/ dressmaker. She could have gone so far On her own making bridal gowns herself. No spoilers!
I enjoyed this one more because of the cross over with two of Mr. Higgs' other series. I've been saving Patricia for last and now that I don't have another Felicity at the moment or Blue Moon or False Gods...(The man can *write*; keep me interested with dialogue and action and even make me unable to figure out the murderer.) In this instance, I figured it out early but like I say I was too busy enjoying Tempest and Ben to care. I suspect that as long as Mr. Higgs is writing I will always have a next book to read! Recommended.
Felicity has her hands full with three brides vying for a Kipling Original wedding dress that only the smallest of the three can have. And there are three murders in a twenty-four period but who is the killer? No, it's not that person because each time you have the answer - it's wrong. It's another fun, exciting and witty adventure that only Steve Higgs can write. His books are a goldmine of entertainment. Very Highly Recommended.
Who knew that wedding planning could attract so much violence and death? Three prospective brides. One ultra-exclusive TINY wedding dress. A competition and violence. One death and then … Felicity Phillips gets in more trouble just working as a wedding planner than anyone could imagine. BUT with her trusty pets, Buster and Amber, and her niece, Mindy, Felicity will figure out who’s causing all the mayhem.
I received an arc copy of the book in return for an honest review.
Weddings can be sooo stressful! For something that has "shock" value for a one-time event, wedding dresses can certainly cause quite a stir! This one of a kind dress looks like it just might be living up to that reputation! Loads of twists and turns that will keep the reader turning those pages! Loved it!
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Fun series of a high end wedding planner who can understand her cat and dog. Felicity has a good team around her and a possible romantic interest. This book included visits by Tempest and Big Ben along with Patricia Fisher. The plot and subplots move quickly. I can't wait for the next book.
Intriguing story about murder in a bride shop. Three ladies vying for one designer dress, who wins depends on her size and staying alive. I enjoyed the mystery and doing a crossover from another story. The ending came abruptly for me so 4 stars instead of 5. Steve Higgs is a great writer.
I rate the fourth book of this series a five star. A fun read a page turner for sure. The next book seems to get better and better. A wedding a murder and who done it and why. I enjoy all the fun characters . And yes I will recommend it to my family and close friends.
Another great series from the wonderfully talented Steve higgs, I've lived everything he's written so far and can't wait for the new ones in the series to be released, love the fact they all have dogs in them. If you've not read any yet, please do, you won't be disappointed
I have a quirky sense of humour & love the situations Felicity finds herself in. Love the way she tries to get herself out of these sticky situations. This story addresses some interesting topics & does it with respect. No everyone will enjoy it but I certainly did!
I had almost stopped reading this series with book three. While I love the characters, which included the dog and the cat, it was bordering on slapstick silly. For me, this book was the best so far. As usual, Felicity makes all the wrong decisions as to who commits the murder but eventually stumbles onto the solution. I’m glad I decided to continue the series.
This book has been the best so far. Can’t wait for the next one! Felicity & Mindy are great characters. I like how Steve Higgs spins his stories and intertwines characters occasionally from his other series. I’ve read all of Albert & Rex, all of Patricia Fisher, & plan on reading the other series as well.
Arriving for her appointment with Annabelle to set an appointment for one of her brides for her bridal gown fitting, she finds her dead, strangled with a scrap of lace and staged wearing a one of a kind designer gown that costs $$$$$!!!!!
Well this was something messy with many bodies dropping. But then with a dress to die for you do get a group of your clients not surviving for the wedding. But almost getting killed too? Not nice!! Good thing Vince is in love with Felicity. now can something happen to her heart?
No surprise here another well created story. Try to figure out what and who done it. I had an inkling. Always entertaining and interesting worth every minute reading Steve’s books. Never get tired of any of his series!
Fe!icing has 3 weddings in the works. The bride's all we t the same dress. .New while ghosts appear to have visited Fe!icity's home and webs e crossover visitors. A fun book lots going on. Enjoy the story
I'm finding the Felicity series to be just as fun as Albert & Rex. I'm losing sleep because I can't stop reading and if I do stop, then I lay there thinking about it and end up getting back up to read some more. Very addicted!
Much better on all levels. This is a Steve Higgs story I've come to expect. Good writing, good mystery, and good characters. With the minor caveat that Vince is still a borderline creep. Can't have everything, I guess.
Three brides fighting over a one of a kind dress none can fit into even with dieting. I figured out the killer, just didn't see the motive until the great reveal.
I only discovered Steve Higgs about 2 month ago and I really love his books this series is really worth reading. I love dogs and Buster's antics really made laugh also Arthur Smith culinary capers are worth reading.
I am liking the Felicity stories a lot more and this one was the best, in my opinion. It had some real thrilling moments and I enjoyed the crossover with our Paranormal friends.
