Deep In Cold Stone

Rate this book
Traumatized by their fight with the Falye, Mizna wouldn't have survived the journey without Merwent.

He kept her alive, kept her moving, and brought her to safety at the academy. But what is home to Merwent is nothing more than an alien place to Mizna - full of people and noise, and conflicts she doesn't understand. Why does Merwent's cousin hate him so? Why are they all so determined to draw her out? She just wants to be left alone - to not think, or feel, ever again.

But that is one luxury she's denied - the Falye has followed them, and she still has the book. Worse, the Falye may not be the only one who wants it, and the new threat may come from inside the walls of the school itself.

Deep in Cold Stone is the second in a quintet of novels. Set in a vivid new fantasy world, this engaging first-person adventure is ripe with emotion, and features a main character's struggles with childhood trauma. Buy your copy of this absorbing read today.

So much inner voice

I'm really hoping the 3rd book gets better. The main character lives with overwhelming internal anxiety and sensory overload. To the point where I am debating if she would be considered autistic or neurodivergent in some way.
I don't often write reviews. And apologize to the author, because for some reason they paid to advertise this series on FB and piqued my interest. But I spent a LOT of time puzzling over whether this is the author's brain on display, or if they put some serious effort into trying to write a character with such incredible antipathy and indifference and lack of curiosity and willingness to simply coast along unquestioning through life. And whose parents made no effort to teach her any useful skills. The mother seems almost abusive in her controlling of Mizna's life and kept the girl almost cloistered. But even in a nunnery there would have been chores...
Reader- be prepared for an unusual series.
Author- your writing is solid. The world interesting, the plot is intriguing and the other characters are showing depths. The main character is barely functioning except to show off how patient and caring the others are.
