About the author

Isabelle Eberhardt was a Swiss-Algerian explorer and writer who lived and travelled extensively in North Africa. For the time she was an extremely liberated individual who rejected conventional European morality in favour of her own path and that of Islam. Dressed as a man, calling herself Si Mahmoud Essadi, Eberhardt travelled in Arab society, with a freedom she could not otherwise have experienced. She died in a flash flood in the desert at the age of 27.

Notes de route: Maroc-Algérie-Tunisie Isabelle Eberhardt publiées ici aux éditions L' Aquilon.
Ces textes, pour la plupart des articles parus dans le journal de Victor Barracudant, El Akhbar, ont été collectés et publiés en un recueil en 1906 à titre posthume. Isabelle Eberhardt étant décédée lors des inondations d'Aïn Sefra en octobre 1904.
Passée la difficulté liée aux termes spécifiques, lieux, hommes, tenues civiles et militaires, je me suis laissée fasciner par Isabelle Eberhardt. Cette femme est exceptionnelle. Replacez vous dans le temps. 19OO une jeune fille née à Genève de nationalité russe, polyglotte, Français, russe, allemand, italien, arabe et turc, excusez du peu! Pour pouvoir vivre comme elle l'entend elle s'habille en homme, porte les tenues masculines berbères, partage le quotidien des goumiers entre autres étapes de sa courte vie. Convertie à l'Islam elle adopte ce pays qu'elle fait sien. Ses notes sont la retranscription de ce qu'elle voit et vit. Son voeu le plus cher vivre au coeur du désert, contempler le monde autour d'elle , ses notes de route se font l'écho de ses aspirations.
Un beau voyage, une envie de désert quoi de plus naturel en fermant ce récit mais surtout l'envie de faire connaissance avec Isabelle Eberhardt une femme hors normes en ce début de XXème siècle!
