An incredible journey of time travel, flying, and the grandfather Rylee never met...WHAT a story! Very little action in this YA adventure yet is was easy to fall in love with free-spirited Rylee as she makes every effort to earn her pilot's license at only 16. Little does she know she's about to travel back in time 40 years and get taken in by her relatives while trying to figure out how to get back to her time in 2021!
I couldn't put this book down, HAD to know what would happen to Riley and her family!
I cried my eyes out in the end because of how beautifully written this story is, it was just so good and really blessed me. Despite the slight romance in the plot, this journey is about the special relationship between a grandfather and his granddaughter and the truly magical way their paths crossed. For anyone who ever wanted to go back in time and get closure to something going terribly wrong, that's what this story really is about and it's beautifully written.
Darcy Flynn’s Flight Time is one of those rare YA novels that offers more than just entertainment, it offers reflection. Yes, it’s an adventure about a girl who accidentally travels back to 1981, but it’s also a story about connection, destiny, and the often complicated stories we tell ourselves about our families.
Sixteen-year-old Rylee is instantly relatable: headstrong, curious, and driven by a desire to feel close to the grandfather she never knew. Her love of flying makes her a dynamic protagonist, and her journey through time is more than a gimmick, it’s a transformative experience.
The real surprise here is Jaxon C. Scott. Watching him interact with Rylee without knowing their true relationship adds so much dramatic tension. Their scenes are filled with subtle emotion and curiosity, and Flynn keeps you hooked with every conversation.
Flynn’s writing is clean, vibrant, and laced with emotion. The book deals with themes of identity, loss, and trust, all wrapped in a fast-paced, exciting story. This is the kind of novel you’ll want to read in one sitting and then recommend to everyone you know. It’s cinematic, heartfelt, and entirely original.
With Flight Time, Darcy Flynn delivers a fresh and emotionally resonant twist on time-travel fiction. What could have been a standard "accidental time traveler" trope turns into something far deeper and more meaningful in Flynn's hands.
Rylee is such a relatable character ambitious, brave, and full of heart. Her journey from frustrated teen pilot to a girl stranded decades in the past is handled with care and authenticity. Her relationship with her grandfather, built entirely on secondhand stories, becomes the emotional centerpiece of the novel. Watching her come to terms with the real, flawed, but heroic young man he was is nothing short of moving.
I loved the 1980s setting not overdone, just enough to create atmosphere and tension. Flynn clearly did her research, and her descriptions make the era come alive. There’s also a thread of mystery throughout the book that kept me turning pages long into the night.
If you're looking for a story that will make you laugh, cry, and think deeply about time, love, and the people who shape us Flight Time is it. It’s the kind of book that stays with you.
Darcy Flynn has created something truly special with Flight Time. It’s a love letter to aviation, to family, and to the power of stories passed down through generations. Rylee Dean is one of the most memorable teen protagonists I’ve come across in a long time she’s bold, clever, and driven by a love that feels incredibly real and personal.
When Rylee ends up in the past, her entire understanding of her family is put to the test. I found myself completely immersed in her struggle to keep her secret while trying to understand her grandfather as a young man. The emotional stakes are high, and Flynn never takes the easy way out every choice Rylee makes feels earned and significant.
The writing is engaging and vivid, with moments of humor and warmth that balance out the tension and suspense. The theme of reconciling legend with reality learning to see people as they truly are rather than how we wish them to be is powerful and relevant.
This book is perfect for teens who enjoy time travel, aviation, or stories about family and identity. I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes a favorite for classrooms and book clubs. It’s as entertaining as it is thought-provoking.
Flight Time completely swept me away. Darcy Flynn has masterfully blended time travel, aviation, and emotional family connections into a story that’s both thrilling and tender. Rylee is a strong, lovable heroine, and watching her meet the grandfather she’s only heard stories about was both magical and moving. A must-read for fans of YA with heart!
The emotional complexity in this story is what really stood out to me. Rylee gets to know her grandfather as a young man, and it changes everything she thought she knew. It made me wish I could meet the people in my family I’ve only heard stories about.
