Being Free is a rhyming picture book for children between 3 and 8 years old, but is enjoyed by kids of all ages. Girl power, an underlying theme, is woven throughout as self-affirming statements are read. Being Free is an uplifting rhyming picture book about recognizing the freedom and confidence that you have inside. You have freedom to be yourself, to use your voice, to have your own style, and even show your silly side. Young readers are introduced to poetry that's both fun and inspiring as they read about the joy of living a life of freedom.
A cute book with an inspiring message of self-empowerment.
Being Free is probably aimed at younger children and preteens but its message is one we can ALL benefit from by heeding it. Listening to our inner voice and freedom in our thoughts and imaginations is the key to empowerment and being truly free in our lives.
With warm and colorful illustrations, a young girl tells us that believing in ourselves, expressing ourselves in appearance and words without fear of criticism, and speaking up for others & confronting bullies are keys to self-respect, respect of others and the freedom this brings.
Sheila Jackson has another winner here and we can all be winners if we take this book's message to heart.
This is such a great book to empower children and give them confidence. The illustrations are beautiful watercolor style, and there is so much diversity in the story.
I love that the author depicted the main character, an African American female, in so many different roles throughout the book. This gives our young girls a great opportunity to see what is possible for them to accomplish, and gives them courage to be uniquely themselves, while also being kind to others.
What a wonderful book with a powerful message about being free. Free to be just the way we are without being ashamed or oppressed. It's an important message for all children and adults. Kids from a young age should learn about what it means to be free and why it matters, so they will not take anything for granted either, as not everyone is given the same amount of freedom.
Wonderful book about freedom. Individual freedom and freedom in groups. Honestly, there is no freedom unless there is freedom for all. This may be a tough concept for young readers, but the illustrations combine with the story so well, understanding is made easy. They are so warm, soothing and expressive, they make this book a joy to read. Highly recommended.
I love this book by Sheila Jackson that encourages kids to be fearlessly themselves and let their voices be heard. Definitely a recommended read for all kids.
A very good read for children and adults! The story included some beautiful illustrations. My grandson loved this! He wants me to read it again! Kudos to the author!
