Willowmead Academy - where taboo, tests, and trauma go to learn a thing or two.
Abbie When I enrolled in sixth form at Willowmead Academy, I wasn't expecting much. I'd already experienced the worst pain imaginable, what's the point in living after that? But then I started to make friends, to stand up for myself again, to laugh. I finally started to live, and it's all because of the one man I should never want. The one man who pushes my buttons and makes me feel alive. It's ironic that for me to feel alive, he has to risk everything. After all, you aren't allowed to fall for your teacher.
Jett I pride myself on living by one rule: emotional ties are for the weak. The needy. Those who need constant reassurance to feel worthy. Well, not me. Once Willowmead’s most prestigious maths professor, the novelty of moulding eighteen-year-olds died the same day my reason for becoming a teacher did. Now the nearest bar is where you’ll find me, where the local women are desperate and my students don’t seem like such pricks. I know I’m an asshole, and I don’t need to justify the way I live with anyone else. Until she shows up. Defiant, infuriating, feisty. I find myself pushing her away as much as pulling her closer. The need to break her, ruin her, have her, consumes me. There will be no happy ending here. Only one of us can come out on top, and for once, I hope it’s not me.

STORY: Likable read and characters. This was a forbidden and taboo romance between a high school teacher male and student female. Starts off interesting as it wasn’t an instant attraction but more of a teacher and student butting heads. They both are from a troubled past and their connection and build up gradually happen. Jett was the youngest teacher at his school and he loves his liquor and women off campus where he can get them. The girl population at the school think he is hot but their advances never works. Abbi pretty much wants to stay low but her constant need to butt heads with Jett builds their chemistry which later explodes.
I think where some points got taken down for me was because of Jett. He was a troubled soul, I did not get teacher vibes sometimes. His character is older but he was giving me teenager vibes at times as well.
SEXUAL CHEMISTRY: Sex scenes were steamy I liked it really no complaint.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS: Secondary characters were ok, no one specifically stood out for me.
OVERALL: Likable read and story.
TRIGGERS: the teacher/student releationship could be a trigger for some especially from someone with authority.
****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.
This duo has knocked it clean out of the universe with this one!
This book is deep, it’s emotional and loaded with some of the best character development I’ve read.
The characters are raw and create this emotion in the reader that is all consuming, I felt myself sucked into Abbie and Jett’s story from the beginning. My heart broke for both of them as the dealt with their demons.
The chemistry between these two was undeniable, it was palpable and had me desperate for more. These two were the perfect puzzle piece for the other and they were unbelievably HOT together.
There authors dove into deep subjects and I really liked how they didn’t side step around things, they went head first and it was perfect to this story. Be aware of the trigger warnings as their are definitely things in this story that can be disturbing to some readers. Otherwise please do yourself a favor and read this book!
I am a huge fan of age gap romances and I do love the student/teacher trope. So, when I say this is my favourite student/teacher novel I've read - I don't mean that lightly.
Abbie has suffered tremendously in the start of this book. I felt so attached to her while reading because you see all her struggles, her good times and bad and it's just such an amazingly real portrait of human emotions that you'll forget you're reading fiction many times. The same can be said for Jett. He's older, her teacher but he's also just as damaged and my god when these two start trying to win against the other - be prepared for a lot of laughing.
Also, Jett likes spanking Abbie when she's been bad and it's hot. Super hot. I can't even explain how good the sexy scenes are in this!
This book is definitely one I will reread again as it's got a firm hold on my heart.
Life Lessons by Emma Luna and Maddison Cole is a student-teacher taboo romance.
This book does come with a trigger warning: "This full length standalone novel contains strong references to mental ill-health including grief, self-harm, suicidal ideation and intent. It also features strong language and scenes of sexual content, which are not suitable for anyone under the age of eighteen. All characters are above the legal age of consent in this student-teacher, age gap, taboo romance."
All I can say is Wow! I was hooked from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I loved the relationship that bloomed between Abbie and Jett. I really enjoyed getting both of their points of view throughout the story. It really brought the story to life.
Emma and Maddison did an amazing job making me feel each of these characters emotions. Both characters have trauma in their past that they need to overcome and they brought that out in the story beautifully.
I would highly recommend this book if you like student-teacher romances, age gap romances, taboo romances, or emotional romances. This is a MUST READ!
Holy hotness! What can I say?!? Emma Luna and Maddison Cole definitely brought the heat in Life Lessons! If you’re a fan of taboo student-teacher, age gap romances, ones dosed heavily with a side of heart breaking pain and trauma, unbridled passion and tons of hot and sexy scenes that leave you gasping for more, then be prepared to fall in love with Abbie and Jett!
Abbie is a character that instantly draws you in with her pain and emotions as recent tragedies have left her broken both emotionally and physically—causing the life she once knew to dramatically change leaving her lost and alone. With her family ties being almost non-existent, she transfers to a prestigious academy hoping for a change or at least some semblance of a life she can live. What she finds is a taboo connection with another lost and damaged soul—who just happens to be her teacher. While they both know it shouldn’t be, and try hard to resist their growing attraction, their mutual agony seems to call to each other and they can’t seem to control their instant attraction and connection. What comes next is one explosive battle of will and passion that will leave you panting for more!
Grab this one now to see for yourself! Though be warned there may be a few triggers so proceeded with caution if you have any concerns. And please oh please let the next story be about Trixie and the foster twins! 🔥🔥🔥
A Taboo story written with emotion and angst. Abbie is the FC of the book, grieving and reeling from her past, she is enrolled in Willow mead Academy, an elite boarding school. Jett is a Maths Professor at Willow mead is fighting his own battles. When he first meets Abbie she immediately gains his attention and not in a good way, but that may soon change. I loved the plot of the book, so well written and emotional. And the spice was ufffffff. I loved the characters, so well suited, and the character development was good!!! If you like A Dark Taboo Romance, this is for you. Please take note of the Trigger Warnings.
When I found out Emma and Maddison had wrote a student/teacher romance I signed up so quick Im surprised I even wrote my name correctly!
I was drawn to Abbies pain and how broken she is after a recent tragedy that breaks your heart when you finally find out what happened. Starting over is never easy especially after going through what she did and having her family blaming her for the events leading up to her new start. Whilst I loved how strong Abbie was I found it annoying that there seems to be nothing that she cant do and gets top marks in every single subject.
Jett, Mr Caine, by oh boy did he capture my heart! He is not your average teacher, not only is he one of the youngest members of staff, he is constantly hungover or even drunk and swears like a sailor infant of his students. He has given up with life and given up with the spoilt brats he has to call students.
The chemistry between these two is palpable which leads to some crazy hot scenes that will have you panting like a bitch in heat. The character growth throughout the book is insane and by the end of the book they are like two completely different people.
I absolutely bloody loved this!! The taboo, forbidden teacher romance was right up my street and the plot was really well thought out.
Abigail has demons that she really struggles with but they are so believable that, if you have dealt with grief in any way, shape or form, the emotive writing will resonate with you as it did for me.
Not going to lie, I shed a little tear at one point but that is kudos to Emma Luna and Maddison Cole for their wonderful writing abilities.
Highly recommended for anyone who loves a taboo teacher romance!
So student/teacher books are so not my jam, no reason why they've just never appealed to me! But when Emma approached me saying she'd teamed up with Maddison I knew I HAD to read it!
These two authors have come together to being us an emotional masterpiece! Their characters aren't just likeable, but they're relatable and loveable!
Abbie craves an emotional connection, she doesn't get much love from her mother and her father isn't around much, at her old school she was Queen Bee, the popular girl, but when tragedy strikes and she moves to Willowmead Academy she decides to take on a different role - by keeping her head down and staying out of trouble
Jett is not your typical teacher, he's young and wants to follow in his father's footsteps, but nothing in life is sunshine to him, he's given up and the only thing that keeps him going is the bottom of the bottle
When these two characters meet their chemistry is off the charts! They try to stay away because they both have their own demons to contend with, but they can't deny the pull they have with each other and soon realise their forbidden dalliance becomes something much deeper
The growth of these characters throughout this book is insane, they have many hurdles to jump and they certainly don't have it easy, but that just makes their HEA even more worth it!
Emma and Maddison have written Abbie and Jett's story to perfection! 🖤
Life Lessons was a very emotional, heart wrenching, angsty, taboo read. I absolutely enjoyed it! I did struggle a bit at the beginning, it didn’t hook me right in. Probably about chapter three or four is where it started feeling like it grabbed me. I’ve been a huge fan of Emma’s for a long time, but Maddison Cole is new to me. It wasn’t as dark as I’m used to with Emma, but it didn’t matter. This story had great world building, characters that were relatable and there were a lot of really raw uncomfortable emotions that helped to build the characters even more.
Both Jett & Abbie had traumatic experiences coloring their lives and both had differing ways of dealing with it. In my opinion, I believe that was what caught each other’s attention. Like minds and such. The way these two start off is so toxic & a little hilarious seeing as how Abbie was a smart ass and didn’t take sh*t from anyone! Not even her teacher. Watching their interactions change and grow into something different, had me turning pages quicker. I mean who doesn’t love a taboo teacher/student drama when they’re always worried about getting caught?! Yeah, that’s hot!! 🥵🥵🥵 So many people interfere and are set to destroy Abbie for things out of her control! My heart broke for her, so thoroughly. I cried when she was at her lowest point. Her loneliness screamed from the pages.
I would recommend this book to everyone. There are triggers, so be cautious if you have issues. This book was a very emotional read for me and it will linger for a time. Great story and well worth the read.
I basically cried the whole book. But that is a statement to both authors. They really made me feel for Abbi. They pulled me into the world they created and then gutted me when the story was over. I want more. Give me more. I don't want this story to be over.
Jett and Abbi's story may be the taboo teacher/student troupe. But its by far the normal type you read about. Jett doesn't react like a normal teacher, which was really refreshing to read about and made him seem more down to earth and real. In most other books it's always "I'm going to go to jail" It's a constant but in this book, it was mentioned very few times and it didn't deter from the relationship building.
Jett helped Abbi become a better person and he didn't even realize and from what I was saying before about the relationship before it was so nice to actually see the relationship grow and we see Abbi grow.. There is sex, but it's not the main concern.
The book is truly about Abbi and her health and her relationship with Jett is just a really awesome bonus.
I would have loved to see Abbi go back to Mike to get that last tattoo. Just to round out that last part in the book that was mentioned a few times.
This is the first in a new series and my word what a start Jett and Abbie’s story is! Abbie is feisty and defiant, and she is emotionally and physically broken after a recent tragedy, which has left her feeling lost and alone. Jett has given up on life and the bottom of a bottle is his lifeline. Both characters have demons to overcome, and despite the pull between them, they try to stay away from each other, but Jett knows how to push Abbie’s buttons to bring her back to life, and the chemistry between them is combustible, undeniable, and palpable. This is a well written taboo romance story which is a student / teacher age gap romance, which is emotionally charged, which is deep, intense, raw, gritty, and with grief, passion, heartbreak, friendships, family, and is a steamy and riveting page turner. These talented authors have done a brilliant job in weaving this tale, and I look forward to reading more from them. Be aware that there may be triggers for some readers due to the sensitive content!
Life Lessons is amazing.. age gap & teacher/student romance might just be my latest jam and Jett might be my new book boyfriend!!Why were none of my teachers in their 30s and hot
This book follows the story of Abbie & Jett, two broken souls that call to each other.
The chemistry between these two is off the charts 🔥
Abbie’s backstory is tragic & heartbreaking! She is so strong for all that she’s been through and deserves a happily ever after
Jett the “moody b*#%ard” has demons of his own. I love that he is a dominating, brooding alpha. I also love the way he tries to fight the undeniable attraction between them. The back and forth between them at the start was hilarious! He has found his match in Abbie and she’s not like all the other stuck up princesses around him.
The subjects covered and the realism of the characters emotions shown throughout this book is outstanding, it was easy to forget I was reading a book.
Overall, absolutely loved this book and was hooked from start to finish
What an emotional roller coaster this story was! Abbie and Jett have both suffered great loss and experienced heartbreak and pain. They’ve both been suffering with their grief alone, but together they realize there’s more to life than misery and darkness. This is a beautiful story about learning to deal with the tough situations life can throw at you and fighting to come out on top. It’s about learning that true friendship does exist and love might not be easy, but it’s worth fighting for. This story had me laughing and crying and feeling all the feels! If you enjoy a taboo, age-gap romance that has the potential to rip your heart out but is so worth it in the end, I definitely recommend this book!
I am seriously blown away with this book! Life Lessons is EMOTIONAL. I feel like I've been ripped open after reading this book. These authors did such an amazing job with this book.
Both Jett and Abigail are real and raw. These authors did not hold back from showing us the true emotion these characters hold. There is such beautiful development throughout the book. Demons haunt both of these two that they can relate on a different level than others. Grief is the main factor that is a trigger in this book.
This book was a perfect mixture of taboo, forbidden, and steam. You will be drawn in instantly with the story, the characters, the angst, just everything! I fully recommend that others read this book. I think everyone needs to experience the emotion that comes from Life Lessons.
This is such an awesome taboo story. This is Abbie and Jett’s story. Both have tragic and dark pasts and struggle just to make it day to day. Then they meet and it’s like a turbulent storm between them from day one. Both using anger and sass towards each other to cover their true attraction to each other because he’s a teacher and even though she’s legal, she’s still his student.
If you love student teacher sexy taboo reads with snarky and sassy leading females and grumpy brooding alphaholes you definitely love this book!! Highly recommend reading it!!
Who doesn’t love a taboo student-teacher romance that is filled with gut wrenching pain, sizzling and hot AF scenes that will leaving you completely panting for more. Abbie and Jett are super hot. Both Abbie and Jett are two damaged souls that find one another and start to heal. Their chemistry and attraction to one another is instant and explosive. I was completely sucked in from the very beginning and there was no chance I would be able to put it down until the end. This was an emotional roller coaster ride to say the least so strap in for one wild ride. This was my first read by these two amazing authors and I can say I can’t wait to read more from both of them individually and together.
Love the relationship between Abbie and Jett. They start off by butting heads, of course, but eventually help each other open up and heal from their traumatic pasts. I also really like that the cover accurately shows Abbie's tattoos. So many covers are just generic, I appreciate when the designer and authors put in the extra effort to have the cover match the story. I hope the twins get a book of their own!
This book was OMGOOODDD!! A dark delicious Student teach age gap all in one. Pay attention to the trigger warning as it can be sensitive for some readers.
Abbie just wants to stay low and have a new begging and leave the past in the past. She’s at a new school where nobody knows about her and what happen. The first day of school she meets her math teacher, one she thought was sexy but lazy and a drunk, she got kicked out of class for her attitude.
Jett the lazy drunk teacher who’s method of getting by and teaching these snobby kids at this high prestigious school is to show up hungover tell them to read and he takes a nap. The students still respect him and look up to him when they need help at something. What he didn’t except was to have Abbie in his class who actually knows her math and can challenge him in every way. His plan was to ruin her and make her senior year high, but when he sees that hidden behind her baggy clothes and attitude is a dark tortured soul one he knows well because he has one too.
Only when they are together are they both happy and living. Things are going great between them but when Harritet the queen B**** challenges her over and over and Abbie pushes her back, but when her secrets come out in the open they are torn apart. Abbie goes down a dark dark hole one she doesn’t know if she’ll make it out of.
Highly recommend this book! This author duo are amazing and have created such a great book!
This was an alright read. I did not think it was as good as other student-teacher romance stories that I have read. The story revolves around the romance between Jethro “Jett” Caine and Abigail “Abbie” Nightingale (“Little Bird/Newbie”). I did finish some aspects of the story interesting, and I did think the characters were great. However, I thought the plot was not the best in my opinion. I started getting bored half way through the story, only to pick up near the end of the story. Jett and Abbie have both experienced loss and grief in their lives. I thought their romance was enjoyable actually, I just thought the storyline was a bit lacking. The ending was cute and I am happy that the hero and heroine got a happy ending to their story. Overall, an okay read.
What an emotional roller-coaster. There pain, angst and visceral need to love and be loved in this story, really had all the feels going. Grief and pain is hard to get right, but this story brought it out in such a realistic, uncomfortable way that I appreciated. Good job.
Jett and abbi were such a great story to read!! I love how he took care of her and how they bonded through their trauma. It definitely was incredible how open this book was with mental health issues because it made them so freaking relatable. I loved every bit of it!!
This is the first student/teacher book I’ve read and I absolutely loved it!
I love Abbie and Jett’s story. The story was captivating and emotional. I’m not going to lie my heart broke for Abbie and I did tear up at different parts of the story. If you like student/teacher romance, forbidden romance, or age gap romances then you should definitely check out this amazing book!
This book was so good! There are a lot of elements that make this book amazing, the way Emma and Maddison wrote made me crave more of this world that they have created. There are some parts of this book that were slightly triggering, so please take care of yourself! This book is definitely a must read for those who enjoy taboo age-gap student teacher romance!!! Luckily it's a standalone so no crazy cliffhangers!!!
I very much enjoyed this book. It was emotional, the characters were very well-written, and the writing was wonderful. Abbie broke my heart. She hurt so much and I connected with her so much. Her pain was so real and raw and I applaud the authors for the time and care they took with this storyline. Jett is also hurting though he'll never admit it. He was an interesting character and I wanted to learn more of him from the moment he showed up on the page. This story is steamy, emotional, and while a bit dramatic at times, I really thought it was well done. Some things written on-page were hard to read, but they were realistic. It's not an easy read but it's so worth it for the story we end up getting in the end. These authors created a wonderful book full of dynamic characters and I very much would like to see some side characters get their stories told.
This is by far the best student/teacher, forbidden love, age gap romance I have ever read. It was beautiful in every sense of the word. Honestly no words are enough to describe how incredibly moving this story was. It is filled with heartbreak, grief, romance, joy, sadness and love. It made me laugh, sob, smile, and jump and down like a crazy person. I felt every single feeling that the characters felt. The heartbreak and the grief tore me to shreds, nothing would’ve stopped the tears that streamed down my face. I can’t find the words to explain how much this story means to me. The things and feelings that Abbie experienced and did were something that I myself had experienced and done, I’ve never lost someone that close to me but I have self harmed since I was 14, even now at the age of 21 it’s something I still struggle with… I have tried to end my life more times than I could tell you and to see it written so meaningful and so accurately made me feel not so alone. When all you feel is grief, pain, emptiness and worthlessness all you want to do is to not feel that way, to end those feelings, to end the pain and to find peace… I wish more people would understand how hard it is to try and carry on and live while suffering and feeling like you’d rather not be alive. The story of Abbie and Jett is going to stay with me forever. Their love knew no bounds and nothing could ever truly stop them from being together. Their happy ending was everything I could’ve hoped for them and more. To see them both grow, heal and find themselves was the most beautiful thing I have ever read. This was truly phenomenal, I’m beyond proud and honoured to have read something so amazing. Emma and Maddison did an incredible job and I couldn’t be more proud of them for writing such a meaningful story.
I have to admit that the teacher/student trope has never been my thing. This book is the ONLY exception to this rule! I cannot believe how phenomenal the story was and how much Abbie had to overcome. Jethro is an amazing man and totally drool worthy. This is one of the best HEA's I have ever read. I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone!
I try not to tear books apart because I admire what it takes to not only write and publish a book, but also make yourself vulnerable by putting your work out there. However, I think it only fair to give my honest opinion so people can decide whether or not to take the time to read an almost 400-page book.
The editing was horrible. Tense changes with the same sentence, typos, run-on sentences, you name it. The amount of time the characters shouted was ridiculous; lots of word repetition, even on the same page. Story could have also been shorter as there was also a lot of repetition in general. If this author used an editor, she needs to fire him/her; if the author did not, she needs to hire one right away.
Most of the character's behavior was over the top. Jett was an asshole teacher to the point that it was unlikely he could get away with how he treated his students. The verbal abuse from Abbie's mother was extreme and perhaps would have been believable if all the other characters weren't so OTT. The way Abbie is treated when her past comes to light AND that the teachers didn't do anything about it is unbelievable.
The biggest thing I had issue with: Honestly, this is a big part of the reason I decided to write a review versus just leave stars.
One thing I did like was Trixie, and her and Abbie's friendship.
Where to start, where to start? That's the question I am asking myself. How do I unpack all the emotions I went through with this book? I completely understand where there is a warning at the beginning of the book. Abbie has been through so much already, and I felt the emotions with her. And it was amazing to see her open herself up the more time she spent with Jett. And then tragedy strikes again! Ugh, I don't know how I was able to not throw my Kindle! Abbie's mom is just something else, and so is Harriett! I won't spoil anything by talking about how horrible they each are. I so wanted them to get what they deserved. And I think that is why I only gave this book 4 instead of 5 stars. There was so much bullying, and it wasn't addressed as much as the mental health issues were. And I get that the main focus was the mental health of Abbie and Jett, but I just can't overlook how Abbie was treated by her peers and teachers. But, I am so glad that Mental Health was also a focus in this book. I just wished that the book didn't end as abruptly as I felt that it did. But I am greedy, and I always want more of the characters I love. So I have my fingers crossed that a few of the secondary characters get their own story!
