"Deep: dive into the hidden worlds" by Jess McGeachin takes readers on a mesmerizing journey into the real wonders of the deep ocean, forest, Earth, time, space, and even inside the human body, proving that truth can be as awe-inspiring as fiction. This non-fiction masterpiece earns every bit of its five-star rating, seamlessly blending captivating narrative with breathtaking visuals to create an immersive exploration of the world’s depths.

McGeachin's artistic prowess is evident on every page, offering readers a front-row seat to the wonders of the world. The illustrations, rich in detail and accuracy, bring to life the incredible diversity of life. The colour palette is not only visually stunning but also serves to highlight the beauty and intricacies of the ecosystem it’s portraying. My favourite sections are “Hidden treasures” found on pages 26 and 27, and “What we can’t see” found on pages 50 and 51. The detail McGeachin was able to achieve in the rocks and minerals is astounding, and who doesn’t find black holes utterly fascinating?

What sets "Deep: dive into the hidden worlds" apart is its ability to educate and inspire. The book not only showcases the marvels of the deep but also instils a sense of curiosity and appreciation for the natural world. McGeachin seamlessly combines scientific facts with a narrative that is accessible to readers of all ages, making learning about the world an enjoyable experience.

The narrative unfolds at a perfect pace, ensuring that readers remain engaged from start to finish. The combination of informative text and captivating visuals makes "Deep: dive into the hidden worlds" an excellent resource for both educational purposes and casual reading. Whether you're a student, a teacher, or simply someone fascinated by the mysteries of the world, this book provides a comprehensive and visually stunning exploration.

Deep is a rich, gorgeous, colorful, and detailed guide to many of the deep, underground, far away, or hidden aspects of our natural world. Spectacular illustrations are accompanied by small tidbits of easily-digestible text about the various creatures, stones, plants, planets, or cells of the hidden parts of our world. My first instinct was that the book would focus on the deep waters or oceans. I was very impressed with the collection of additional elements that fit with the theme and were explored. It wasn't as cohesively engaging as some collections and feels a little like a really great picture dictionary for children, with tidbits on all sorts of things.

Read as a nomination in the nonfiction book award category as a panelist for Children's and Young Adult Bloggers' Literary Awards (Cybils Awards).

This was a fun and lovely book, with large two spread illustrations. "Deep" is used both literally and metaphorically, so the book dives into the ocean, the mists of time, the brain, etc. Each page has a vivid illustration and well chosen information placed strategically around the images.

The metaphor gets a bit strained some time, but it's all an excuse to share cook knowledge and inspire curiosity and learning.

When I saw this book I said "OMG not another book about the deep deep ocean!" (insert silent scream) But this book had a lot more depth and I really liked it! I thought it was well done and worth reading.

Deep is a great introduction to places that few have explored. From our brain and body, the ocean, Amazon and Earth to space and the galaxy beyond, Deep looks into these topics and highlights the impact of humans and what we leave behind while asking some great questions like “Who owns the past?” Deep is educational, entertaining and thoughtful.

I love this book! I am interested in categories / schemata, and this book presents a great overview of various realms by using the word DEEP as a way to find commonalities.

Teachers, librarians, and (grand)parents can use this book to introduce various units presented in this book with words and illustrations:

1. Deep Ocean
2. Deep Forest
3. Deep Earth
4. Deep Time
5. Deep Space
6. Deep Inside

And then in the back, the author stands back to look at connections and implications:

7. Deep Connections. I liked how this section drew lines that connected areas. It's very limited, but it invites the readers to find other connections. For example, the sea creatures are connected to questions about live on other planets AND to fungi in the rain forest that also use bioluminescence. Cool!

8. Surviving the Deep (threats by pollution for example).

And then Back Matter includes the following:

Glossary
Index

This book is probably best for readers ages 9 through 13 because of the detail; however, the illustrations make it accessible for younger readers who will "grow into" this book that they loved for the many images before they can fully understand the facts and the concepts behind the images.
