I found the format of the diary of a 15-year-old girl living through a massive meteor strike to be very engaging and well-done. I was a little curious as to why Vi's ultra-prepper mom would wait until so close to the event to try to get to shelter in Kentucky, but I guess it would have been a less compelling story had she done so. My main quibble is that it ends abruptly and we only find out what happens to Vi from the diary amendments of Nana. There was so much to that story, I would have liked it to have been in Vi's eyes. Nonetheless, this was a very enjoyable book.

This is a good book, a bit slow to begin. The best part of this book is no unbelievable characters. If you like apocalyptic books this is a realy good one because its different then most, not the best but nothing is over the top just feels real.
Worth a read or listen.

Wonderfully paced read

I loved this book. My first encounter with Druga. A young girls journal provides a small glimpse into a cataclysmic event. Told with humor, sadness, strength, terror and determined grit, you will want more story when it concludes. I loved Violet as a very well written person whose writing about themselves and those around them.

Hope when it seems hopeless.

I enjoyed the book immensely. Violet never gave up! It was eye opening to see it through a teenagers perspective.

Good Evening Read

This was an interesting read. I liked that it was from a teenager's perspective. Writing it as a diary was a good way to tell the story.

Now I want to know what happens next!

Realistically formed characters and situations. I’m really, really, REALLY hoping there will be a sequel. Such an enjoyable read! Thank you for all of your writing.

Very good book or Journal. Violet (my mother's name) so I liked her from the start, keeps a daily record of what happens before, during and after the meteor hits. Book was hard to put down so I finished it in one setting.

Great YA Apocalyptic book!

I believe this is Jacqueline Druga's first YA book. Very entertaining. I agree with Kyle about Anne Frank's book and encouraging Vi to vamp hers up. I love this author's work because she is so diversified. Definitely recommend.

A good solid story

This story was written from the perspective of a 15 year old girl as she struggles to make it through an apocalypse. The time line takes place right before and after a meteor hits the earth. The story was entertaining and I enjoyed it.

I wasn’t sure I’d like a diary type tale. I loved it. The meteor taking out planet Earth could really happen, which scares me. The characters are well developed. Story kept me reading way to late. But the dark circles under my eyes were well worth it. Grab it, enjoy the story. Oh, you’re welcome.

Wow! This may be my favorite Jacqueline Druga book. The writing style was awesome and I loved the way she told the story. I was also so pleased that there wasn't any bad language. So beautifully told. I wasn't ready for it to end.

A quick read, but good. Durga has a way of bringing her characters to life through words.

Three Days after Impact

Don’t let the two stars scare you. It was a good book. It just was not the apocalyptic stories that I like.

This story was written through the eyes of Violet (ViVi), a fifteen year old high school student, in the months before and after a meteor smashes into earth leaving a wake of devastation. It is written as ViVi’s journal and what happens each day leading to the disaster and then her survival after.

If you are looking for apocalyptic horror with monsters , mutations, lots of blood, this is not it. This is a written journal and what would actually happen, if a meteor of a large magnitude would hit earth. That is what made this book so scary! That this is possible!

I love apocalyptic stories but this one was written more like a Anne Frank journal. Matter of fact, that is mentioned several times in the story.

Jacqueline Druga writes apocalyptic novels and even though I only gave two stars to this book I’m going to definitely read more of her books. This was my first book I read by Druga, but I’m sure she has written something that I really will like, for apocalyptic stories are my favorite.

one major complaint-one spoiler

So here’s my problem-and this is the second Druga book with it- the characters knew the disaster was coming and stocked a shelter a few states away. Great, that makes sense. For the second time, Druga has them waiting either until the last minute or after the disaster to travel to their shelter. That is the stupidest, most moronic, anti-survival thing to do! If you don’t want to go into the shelter until it arrives, go stay at a motel right near it. Put it on a credit card-it’s not like you’ll be stuck with the bill. Or sleep there nights and bring in fresh food so you don’t dwindle your supplies. It doesn’t matter how you do it, but get there early. Druga is supposed to be an expert survivalist. If she is, I hope this is just a convenient plot device. If this is her actual survival plan, it will go about as badly as it does in her books.

She's Back!

I have to admit that I have found myself just getting through the last few of Jacqueline Druga's books. I have always really enjoyed her writing and look forward to her next books but for some reason her recent books have fallen flat with me.Three Days After Impact has reminded me why I so enjoy reading her stories. Her last couple of books have had sequels that I haven't had any interest in reading but this one was short and sweet and I would love to see what happens next in this apocalyptic world. Was it all realistic? Not really, but it was believable. My only complaint is that it was more of a short story and seem to kind of skim over some of the details that would have fleshed the story out a little bit more.

A modern Diary of Anne Frank

This book's story is told from the perspective of a 15-year-old through a daily journal that she is keeping. In this journal, she recounts the events leading up to and through a meteor hitting the earth. The journal is addressed to her grandmother who is housed in a mental institute.

Using a journal or diary format the story is kept short and to the point. A journal is not going to have the same level of detail or expanded dialog that a normal novel would have. This keeps the story moving with the bare minimum in distractions. This makes it a very quick read.

The ending is somewhat abrupt but we do learn of the fate of Violet (albeit only as an addendum to the diary written by someone else). A decent book.

This book is told in diary/letters format to a grandmother, and it starts in a very light format to a very bleak present, and to tell the truth we kind of understand before of Violet (the main character), what is really going on, and then we feel hard with her, when she learns things…

I really like the way this story is told in the audiobook, the person reading did a great job, she even did some voices to help knowing the different characters.

And now that I’ve finished the audiobook, I just hope that we will get to know in the future, the story untold of what happened between November 7 and July 17 (please ^___^)

I got a free copy of the audiobook, and I am leaving this review voluntarily

Quick read, enjoyed the book. Another found journal post apocalyptic book. This time the journal was written by a young teen girl who's mother is a preper. The disaster is a meteorite impact with the earth. The book that I just finished prior to this one was way too long and I dinged my rating because it was too long. This one was way to short. I didn't really get to know the characters and wanted them to make it to their destination before ending... not sure if that was the result of the long book previously mentioned or not? Dinged this score also.. damn Imaginary Friend book you may have made another book suffer as result of your long windedness!

Ms. Druga hit another home run with this book. The description of the Mother of the 15 year old on the first page grabbed me immediately. The humor in the first part of the book was on par with some of Rita Mae Browns book. I think what I appreciate most about Ms. Druga's books is the message that people will persevere and there are plenty of "good" people that far outride bad people. Thank you for this feel good and humous book.

Great read!!

This is a book you won't want to put down until the last page. It will keep you at the edge of your seat as you pull for Violet, watching as she struggles with what is happening to her world. That's how Druga writes.....so vividly you can see it. Never hesitate to read anything by her, I've read a ton of her work and as yet have never been disappointed even a tiny bit. Happy Reading!!

Original

I’ve read a lot of Jacqueline Druga’s novels, and she has always tried unique spins on apocalyptic scenarios. Not all of them work, but this one did.

She drew me in and made me feel what Vi was feeling. The tension, the concern, the fear. This is one of her best novel in my opinion.

Four days after impact

This is one of the best stories I've read in a long time. The characters were realistic. The descriptions were beautiful and heartbreaking. It's as if I was there, with Violet. I would recommend this story for anyone. It wasn't normally the kind of book I would read, but I am so glad I did. Thank you, Jacqueline Druga, you are an amazing story teller
