When was the last time we really poured our feelings out to Allah? We have been taught that the only time we can communicate with Allah is when we are making du'a to Him. Even then, it comes with a set of restrictive rules that puts a 'barrier' between Allah and us. The things we recite are verses that we were told memorise, but rarely do we truly talk to Allah about the troubles that are weighing down our hearts. Because it feels awkward. Thus when we are down and sad, we seek other means for comforting ourselves, but often they offer only temporary respite. We forget that true comfort lies only with Allah. In this book, author Ayesha Syahira takes you on a Journey of spiritual discovery; of reconnecting with Allah wholeheartedly. The author focuses on nurturing the lifestyle of talking to Allah; of finding comfort by making du'a to Him at any time of the day.
Finished this book in one go. Stayed up to read it. Ayesha answered some of my questions in this book, and most importantly, she makes me realize something significant about du'a.
I love it when she keeps saying that dua is not merely a request, it's a way for us to communicate with Allah. And the more dua we make, the more we will make effort to achieve what we pray for.
Read this. It's beautiful. Really. ❤️ It helps us in building a strong & wonderful relationship with our God, through something that's actually can be done by everyone, but we might not be aware of it before.
Talk To Allah; this book has really made me look into making dua through another different perspective. All this time I thought I have been really making dua', but the truth is it was all 'auto-pilot' dua' making. There is no total connection with Allah s.w.t -- and I will always just think 'Oh Allah s.w.t will provide for me or if He didn't, well, it's just not meant to be mine', while this seems okay, I do realize now what I had missed by not truly being mindful with making my dua'. It's not only about whether your wishes will be granted or not, but it's more on how you can build up a better relationship with Allah s.w.t, how trough making dua' will also increase your God consciousness.
And I must say that reading this book has really inspired me to make a better effort on making my dua'. I can see myself coming back to this book again for a reminder if ever I feel like slacking on making my dua'. Alhamdullillah, and thank you dear author.
I have established a very close relationship with Allah when I was in UIA. The establishment was not built by du'a, it's a mixture of everything; pray, reading, mingle with good friends. But after becoming a teacher, mom and wife - I feel so distant to Him. My soul is longing for the closeness. However, I was unsure which way should I take to reconnect. Is it via fasting Monday Thursday? Is it by fixing my solat? Is it by doing sadaqah?
Allah moved my hand to add this book into cart and purchase. It seemed like He was signalling to me that I should start with du'a.
This book moved me, a lot. I always underestimate the power of du'a. Laziness and ignorance led me to constant disobedience to make du'a. This book shed the light that we should treat du'a like breathing the air. We must constantly do it. Making du'a shows our total reliance to Allah. If we don't make du'a and ask from Him, it seems like we do not need Allah.
Alhamdulillah, managed to finish it as my final book for 2020!
There are points in this book that I don't agree with, but let that be a secret between me and Allah SWT only.
I could not deny that Talk To Allah is a good introductory book for someone who wants to get to know about Allah SWT and His deen in a better light and understanding.
But if you feel that you already have established the relationship with Allah SWT, then maybe this book is not for you.
I recommend this book to young girls and teenagers, as I feel that they could benefit mostly from this book. Insya' Allah.
“There is a saying that goes, "We all sin, and the best of sinners is the one who repents.”
I want you to unlearn the concept that Allah does not accept our du'a because of the mountainous of sins we have.” (m/s 18)
“The more you seek knowledge about Allah and get to know Him, the easier it feels to make du'a and obey Him.” (m/s 59)
“When the heart is yearning to know Allah and be close to Him, He opens up for us to seek knowledge. He fills us with things that are beneficial and raises our rank, stages by stages. He pulls us closer to Him, and help us be detached from what is not beneficial and finally be attached to Him, The One and Only Lord.” (m/s 71)
“When you have made your du'a, make sure that you move into the direction to get what you ask for. You do not make du’a and wait at home and do nothing.” (m/s 104)
“Same goes to du'a. Allah SWT answers some du'as in seconds, a very short time but for some it will take some time. It does not mean that Allah SWT does not love you and Allah SWT does not appreciate your du'a. Take it in such a way that Allah SWT misses you, Allah loves hearing your voice and Allah loves the attitude that you have and He wants to hear more because He is so pleased with what you are doing in your du'a. He is pleased seeing you begging to Him. He really loves that so He wants to continue to listen to that. So it takes a while for Him to grant your d'ua. He wants you to be closer to Him.” (m/s 150)
Why do we rarely truly talk to God about the troubles that are weighing us down?
This is Ayesha's second book and I can see how much she have grown in her writings. Some parts are quite repetitive, but it's okay.
As the title suggests, Talk To Allah, finding comfort by making du'a to him, in this book, Ayesha tells us her story of how she managed to find comfort as she gets closer and closer to Allah by making du'a, casually speaking in her mother tongue to Allahu Ya Alim, who understands every languages there are.
Some of us still might believed that it's completely a sin to just talk to Allah without being on a prayer mat, but that's absolutely not true. So Ayesha, tells her wonderful experiences of how she found out that she could even doll up while having a recitation session, how she make du'a while driving, and at other time.
"Du'a is something that you do and you move towards the direction". - Pg 168
The author did her best to help pulling us out from the awkwardness of "casually talking" to Allah like He's our bestfriend rather than seeking other means for self-comfort which only works temporarily. "Our du'a does change qadr" - Pg 99
Really love how Sister Ayesha beautifully share the new 'perspective' for my point of view that doa is not only for request, doa is for everything. Doa is the way for us to communicate with Allah s.w.t. It sparks the new idea that I had about doa. This book moved me a lot, I really recommend this book to those who are seeking for an establishment with Allah s.w.t.
Also, the language is very simple, definitely suitable for beginners in English book.
4.5 out of 5 from me. From someone who wants to practicing du'as properly and not only ask for random things to Allaah🥲 this book has simple yet important direction for muslims making duas and sharing the importance of reliance to Allah.
this is my second book that i hv read from Ayesha and it's always lovely
"Dua session become autopilot, no ikhlas and merely they were just words I uttered which gave no effect to my heart..."
PERSONAL FEELINGS
Last Ramadhan, I read Sister Ayesha's first book Quran Tag girl, it propelled me to get a new Quran copy and read the tafsir more seriously. This Ramadhan I read this book and I can feel her roots piercing in me, on the verge of being birthed to stay.
CONTENT
The content is more anecdote-ish than factual. Take it like sister Ayesha is sitting next to you and assuring you that talking to Allah and making prayers is probably the one thing that is missing in your life. No judgements, just stories and assurances. It's a pick me up and a hug at the same time. She carries you through her experience of not actually believing in the power of Dua because of our upbringing to not being able to imagine a day without talking to Allah. There are tips, templates and answers to questions she was frequently asked.
LANGUAGE
The language is very simple. Definitely suitable for readers who do are beginners in English, the language will not intimidate you. The tone is very simplistic, as well. A lot of people might prefer this.
WHO DO I RECOMMEND IT FOR?
Everyone who needs a quick pick-me up. A quick boost. Because sometimes we just forget just how much these little things mean. I finished this book in an hour, great for those in reading slumps too, you'll zoom by this and feel quenched at the last page.
My most fav part is when Ayesha shares the real stories from her followers regarding making du'a, and the topic on how to create a du'a list😍😍
"The amount of Allah's attention is incomparable to anyone or anything and whether we speak verbally loud or just a tiny voice talking in out heart or thoughts that crosses our mind, every single word of it is listened by Allah and none goes to waste or unattended by Him.
There are millions of us in this world, and in every part of the world, people are making du'a to Allah every single second. Even so, Allah listens to each and every du'a we make, from every single creation. He knows who is the person making du'a to Him. He recognizes our voice. He listens to whatever that we are saying.
Allah pays attention to it all. Even if it is just a small request of what you wish to eat."
Masya Allah such an impactful book. It felt like having a chat with a big sister that truly understands and can relate with your challenges during the journey in trying to be better for Him. I usually don't rate non-fiction books but this one definitely deserves 5 stars✨👏🏻
Talk to Allah by Ayesha Syahira is a beautifully written and deeply grounding book that reshapes the way we think about du’a. Instead of presenting du’a as a ritual bound by rules, the author shows it as an honest, heartfelt conversation between a person and Allah; one that can happen anytime, in any moment of sincerity.
What makes this book stand out is that it’s not just filled with inspirational lines or abstract spiritual advice. It offers a clear, step-by-step practical guide on how to make du’a more meaningful, how to build a du’a list, how to reflect on your inner needs, and how to take action after asking Allah for help. Nothing feels unrealistic or overly idealistic; everything she suggests can genuinely be practised in daily life.
Ayesha Syahira writes in a warm, relatable voice, sharing personal stories and gentle reminders that make you feel seen and understood. Her reflection questions at the end of sections encourage deeper thinking and help you apply what you read.
Overall, Talk to Allah is a comforting companion for anyone seeking to rebuild their connection with Allah. It is simple, practical, and sincere; a book that doesn’t just speak to you but teaches you how to speak to Allah.
a good book on doa, below are pointers from the book 1. The Essence of Dua - Dua is an acknowledgment of a servant’s weakness before Allah, a sign of humility and trust in Him. - Through dua, we not only ask but also strengthen our dependence on Allah.
2. The Four Types of Dua - Duas from the Quran: Verses revealed as guidance for supplication. - Duas from Hadith: Words of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that guide us in making dua. - Personal Duas: Supplications tailored to our needs and desires. - Duas from Others: The blessings of prayers made by righteous people on our behalf.
3. Etiquette of Dua - Begin with praise or dhikr (remembrance of Allah). - Make specific and clear requests. - Pray for good and righteous things. - Make dua in the language you are most comfortable with.
4. Reasons We May Hesitate to make doa - Lack of purpose. - Failure to feel the responsibility of being a servant. - Lack of urgency or desperation.
5. Why We Should make doa - Allah is the One we rely on entirely.
The author motivates us to appreciate &repair our relationship with Allah swt. She addressed common stereotypes in our culture and their perceptions. Once we grasp the sweetness in Talking To Allah(TTA) at every step of our lives, we find our solace, insha'Allah.
Some inspirational stories regarding Duas are shared, too. A special section is dedicated to ideas on how to curate our duas. Embrace this lifestyle and make your life impactful!
I liked this book. At first I was put off by the informal dialogue, as I was expecting something more studious, but the more I read, the more I appreciated the tone of this book. There are a few grammatical issues, which makes me feel like this book was translated from one language to English. However, I enjoyed the book, and I did inspire me to make du'a more. I appreciate the prompts at the end of the book also.
This novel is so close to my heart bcz I read it when I wanted to hear some words that would be so peaceful for the ears to hear. This book helps one get closer to Allah. The duas, verses from the Quran, and the Sunnah of the Prophet(PBUH) is so nicely compiled that can help us in our daily lives. Lastly what I loved the most about this book was, a line of dua at the end of each chapter; that gives us a reminder to not forget making dua to our Lord!
A huge applause to the author for inspiring another young woman in science (me, hehe)! I really appreciated how the author shared personal experiences, it made the book feel relatable. I’m leaving one star off only because a few points felt a bit repetitive. Still, a very motivating and heartfelt read!
This little treasure of a book struck a different chord with me. It felt like sitting down for a heart-to-heart chat with a dear friend, one who listens without judgment and offers solace in times of need.
Another beautiful book that I read at such perfect timing. The moment I feel my mind was so heavy in thought, going through a mental breakdown, and even feeling useless. I made a lot of sins, I'm feeling myself a burden to other people, I'm, not a good friend, I want to make a du'a but I realized I'm a sinner. Does Allah accept prayer from a sinner like me? I'm having that kind of thought for such a long time. It's true that whenever I'm making du'a, the du'a become in an autopilot motion which I didn't put enough emotion in it. I didn't feel the connection. My mouth just utters the words without feeling the connection. Shame on me, I told you.
I find this book is very useful and totally changed my perception of making dua to Allah. Put the best thought in God bcoz Allah says that, "I am what my servant thinks I am." Whenever you make a dua, put your trust in Allah and have faith in Him. Don't you ever doubt Him. He is As-Sami' (The All-Hearer), He listens to you. Every tiny little voice of you, He recognized your voice. Just talk to Him and ask Him for what you wanted to achieve in your life even if it's just a little. For instance, you want to make a portion of macaroni for dinner, talk to Allah that you wanted to cook them as you wish everything went smoothly like you hope your family loves your cooking which makes you happy and definitely will do it for the next time.
Don't giving up on making du'a and question why God didn't grant your wish as you made dua consistently every day without missing every single word to it. Know that Allah answers your dua in 3 ways:
Firstly, You get what you wish/ as you wanted. Secondly, Yes Allah will give what you asked for but He will give it a bit later. Thirdly, Yes, but instead of what you wanted, Allah will give you so much better than what you asked for.
Have faith and make sure you have a good intention in making du'a. Allah loves His servant more than anyone else does. Remember, our du'a does change qadr😊 Have a good day, people :)
Just as expected, another beneficial read! This book mainly talks about du'aa, as a way to talk to Allah. They say that you talk to Allah by making du'aa while Allah talks to you through the Quran. Beautiful, isn't it? The fact there is a du'aa for every emotions is just so lovely too. Like, if I'm feeling sad, I should recite Surah Ad-Dhuha—Chapter 93 of the Quran. The author also specifies that you do not need fancy/poetry words to talk to Allah, just with simple words and comfortable language.
It all comes down to intention, this was the part where I really need to remind myself. A specific part which I really relate to was the auto-pilot way of making du'aa. I just recite the same words as I always do but at times, I do not know if I am paying attention to my words like I should. So, this was eye-opening to me because I do struggle with this. Of course, the author provides tips and ways to focus on our du'aa. I am very much thankful for the tips :).
Another segment, which I truly liked, was the power of du'aa and the time for it to be granted by Allah. Some du'aa takes a second, days, weeks, months, years and even decades! The main point was the direction of our du'aa. What we intend to do to prove to Allah that we REALLY want what we made du'aa for. We must take actions, not just wait and hope for Allah to grant our du'aas. I really needed this segment.
Last but not least, I so so LOVED the last pages of reflection questions readers could participate in. I could write down my thoughts and feelings without feeling forced because how many times a day do we pour out our feelings to Allah? Not enough, at least for me.
I'll truly use the tips the author has provided, just like in 'Being A Quran Tag Girl'. Next read will be 'Longing For God's Closeness'. Really can't wait to read that!!
Mashaallah, this book literally made me cry out the tears of realization, repentance and contenment towards The Almighty, due to finally able to understand the true meaning of du'a.
I love how the author emphasized the mercy of Allah SWT, how forgiving and loving He is if we ever really put our heart into understanding of the religion instead of accentuating the azab, punishment and the consequences of disobedience towards Islam. The beautiful illustration of Allah's kindness touched the deepest part of my heart.
Instead of applying the "if you sins, you shall be punished accordingly" or the rage of Allah for the disobedience, making people afraid of The Almighty concept, she rather used the concept in which we'll feel the love of Allah that we'll unable to disobey or do anything against Him, as we are aware that we can never truly hurt the one we love, or the one who love us unconditionally. We just couldn't. And even if we sins, it's doesn't matter as long as we seek for repentance and Allah is indeed forgiving. So she firmly stated that never ever lose faith and stop praying to Allah no matter how much we sins.
The author also included a lot of statements or clarification about du'a supported by authorized verses of Quran, as you can see clearly, I annotated the book so much despite it's not that thick. The pink ones which are also with the most tabs resembles the verses of Quran she has included.
If you want to know more, you should definitely buy the book, highly recommended. I don't know I cried due to the sensitivity of me or because I actually really understand what the author tried to convey. Regardless, I don't regret buying it.
This book has my whole heart. What a beautiful and peaceful book. Fan of Ayesha Syahira. What an author. In every book this author share her own life experience, her relationship with Allah. I love this book. Absolute favourite.

This Book is ❤. I was not expecting it to be that deep and powerful, but Subhanallah it really hits me when i go through page by page because the writer shared things that we always do regarding the dua’ that we did but in a way on how it should be done. And why is it so important to pray/make a dua.
There are millions of us in this world, and in every part of the world, people are making du'a to Allah every single second. The amount of Allah`s attention is incomparable to anyone or anything and whether we speak verbally loud or just a tiny voice talking in our heart or thoughts that crosses our mind, every single word of it is listened by Allah and none it goes waste or unattended by Him.
The beautiful illustration of Allah's kindness touched the deepest part of my heart. I would like to thank the author Ayesha! For this beautiful masterpiece. For those who are experiencing difficult times and need something to heal them, this book can act as a catalyst to relieve their burden and sorrow. And the language is so simple that anyone can read and understand it.
I really enjoyed reading her du'a journey and some others' stories told in this book as well. Some lessons learnt are, to keep believing in Allah and His promises. Shall keep talking to Him, be it du'a or casual ranting. - A skill i learnt was that i need to plan my work ahead and trust whatever the outcomes along the progress.. they are Allah's gift for me atm. Acknowledge whatever your feelings are, sad/ happy/ desperate/ disappointed/ hesitating... Be fine with it.. converse with Him about everything that suffocate you eventhough He already knows them all.. thank Him for nice end result too.. - Maybe, this is the part where people forget. All the outcomes root from Allah's approval. We forget our heart once ached so much and cried to Allah, asked for this and that, but afterwards? we think we did enough and deserves the result. we think we shed enough tears and sweat along the journey. We stop talking to Him. Nauzubillahh minzalik. - Sis journals her du'a so that some day will look back into it.. kita pun mesti pernah alami something like, "ohh this was what i prayed hardly for, masyaAllah it's granted" - May Allah grant us consistency to always trust His Divine plans. (Randomly) And to always have good intentions. Amiin
