I had a blast reading this creepy collaboration, from its masterfully forged prologue all the way to the final chapter. Every chapter (crafted by a different, skilled author) sheds just a bit more light on what's going on in this mysterious hellhole at Route 13. The regular inhabitants of the place and the newcomers are all interesting, well-crafted characters that are fun to follow (my personal favorites are Con the bartender and Joel the perv--er, pool master). One criticism I'd have is that most stories end in a similar way, which can get repetitive after a while, but it wasn't a big issue for me, and David Green's payoff at the end more than makes up for it. Overall, it's a mysterious, suspenseful, and occasionally creepy novel perfect for the fans of rural horror, Stephen King, and David Green's Nick Hollerann series.

Okay, first of all, the ambiance of this Route 13 hell-hole is palpable and eye-catching in its own right. The authors weave this feeling through each tale they tell and many of the stories feed into and connect to one another in clever and intriguing ways.
There are a number of cookie-cutter stories in here, with the main characters meeting the exact fate you know they will, but there are also some gems that veer off in new and interesting directions and deepen the overall story. Ultimately, in an anthology like this, you need both types of tales and so I found the standard stories to feed into the overarching narrative in a positive way.
There is an irreverent feel to this book with the postcards sent forth from this hellish place proving to be a particularly devilish highlight. They really add to the immersion...not that Whiskey Pete's is exactly where I'd like to hang out in reality.
I'm a fan of Nick Holleran and so finding him in here was a treat. I am also a fan of Toombs and Josie's stories, though there is some fine writing throughout, I'm just a twisted sort. The ending was satisfying and made me smile on several levels, even as I wanted to see more of the title character, Pete.
This is a warped anthology and an evil/fun setting to get lost in for a while. But don't get too lost...or you might never find your way out...

My favorite horror stories are ones that involve the inescapable, the places that sink their teeth and claws into you and refuse to let you go. Like Jack Torrance and the Overlook, or Mike Enslin in 1408, or hell, even Hotel California. And now, the newest addition to the list — Whiskey Pete’s.
LAST STOP is a collection of horror shorts where each tale centers around the mysterious Route 13 and the last stop on that route, the aforementioned Whiskey Pete’s. Each tale in this collection is different from one another and while some are more predictable or less chill-inducing than others, they all work in tandem to uncover the secrets and the mysteries behind this place you won’t find on any map.
The stories are all fast-paced and will keep you thoroughly engaged, all the way to the very end. Don’t be surprised if Route 13 pops up on your next road trip. And if it does? Don’t stop.

I cannot rate this book highly enough. This is a shared world anthology, with multiple shared characters, and while the authors kept their own distinctive styles, the stories were still cohesive. I felt that they flowed seamlessly one after the other, and worked well to build the overarching story. All of the authors absolutely nailed the creepy atmosphere and the characterisation of the shared characters. They did such a great job keeping the momentum going, not just in their individual stories, but in the book as a whole.
There was a sense of predictability as to how most stories would end. However, the plots and characters are unique enough, and we're given enough twists and turns, that I still felt I was being kept on my toes. The characters' voices are all so strong, and I was absolutely delighted when David Green's Nick Holleran turned up. The plots are intense, too. The stakes are high here, to say the least.
Finally, I loved the cover. It piqued my interest immediately and was perfect for this anthology. This book was such an enjoyable (and scary) read from start to finish; I cannot recommend it highly enough for horror fans.

Last Stop by many authors

GENRE: Horror Anthology
TROPES: loads - monster hunters, red neck killers, etc..
PROS:
🤐Anthology with a lot of authors so if I didn’t like a story I might like the next.
🤐The premise was cool - a run down bar/motel where people end up and never leave.
🤐Some of the characters and stories were really cool.
CONS:
🔥The different authors didn’t tie the world together as good as a single author would have.
🔥I felt like sometimes the characters didn’t act right.
🔥There was more gore than I like in my horror. More gross - less scares.
I loved the premise of this anthology and so it was fun to read. As I mentioned above there was a lot more gore than I like, but some of the characters in the stories were really cool, and their story was fascinating, especially when they tied it to a previous story.

This was a great horror anthology. As with all anthologies, some stories were better than others, but all were chilling in their own way. Some were more gory than others, but I love how each other put their own unique spin against the same backdrop and odd cast of characters populating that world. I can honestly say I hope I never end up at Whiskey Pete’s or meet any of the denizens that are permanent fixtures there. A brilliant collection that you’ll want to read with the lights on, that will give you goosebumps and make you think twice about taking the road less traveled when driving across America.
