Forty-Seven Duology #2

New Daddy at Forty-Seven

Rate this book
I’ve never been a Daddy before, but now it’s all I want to be… I’ve always thought Kinsey was hot AF, but now that I’ve come to know him, he’s so much more than a super sexy silver fox. He’s kind and caring, and so damn courageous. He’s also vulnerable and needy, and it lights me up like nothing else. I know I’m twenty years younger, but I want to take care of him. I want to be his protector, his strong man, his knight in shining armor. I want to be his Daddy. New Daddy at Forty-Seven is part two of a duology, an emotional and yummy romance with an age gap, loads of hurt/comfort, and a beautiful Daddy/boy relationship that ends with an HEA. It contains themes of addiction and religious homophobia.

Would you like the long or the short version of my bio?

The short? You got it.

I write steamy gay romance books and I love it. I also love reading books. Books are everything.

How was that?

A little more detail? Gotcha.

I started writing my first stories when I was a teen…on a freaking typewriter. I still have these, and they’re adorably romantic. And bad, haha. Fear of failing kept me from following my dream to become a romance author, so you can imagine how proud and ecstatic I am that I finally overcame my fears and self doubt and did it. I adore my genre because I love writing and reading about flawed, strong men who are just a tad broken..but find their happy ever after anyway.

My favorite books to read are pretty much all MM/gay romances as long as it has a happy end. Kink is a plus… Aside from that, I also read a lot of nonfiction and not just books on writing. Popular psychology is a favorite topic of mine and so are self help and sociology.

Hobbies? Ain’t nobody got time for that. Just kidding. I love traveling, spending time near the ocean, and hiking. But I love books more.

This one is far and away an easier read than it’s predecessor. But in all fairness, I’m not sure I would’ve appreciated how lovely this was if I hadn’t endured the first.

Not that it was too much of a hardship, it cemented both Kinsey and Benoni in my heart. And when they finally came together they provided almost everything I love.

From Kinsey’s neediness to Ben’s dominance and undying patience. The affection they shared, the love that grew between them was heartwarming.

And the steam? My God, these two together is so freaking hot. I especially loved their mutual obsession with Kinsey’s ass.

While I love me a daddy, I felt the writer was a bit heavy handed with that term of endearment. But I’m glad Ben didn’t stop calling Kinsey Honey. That one hit just right.

And as much as I adored them together I equally enjoyed Kinsey both mending fences and standing up for himself with his friends and loved ones.

Then when it came full circle, I was left with a full heart. Utterly satiated.

Nora Phoenix created one of the best duologies I have read!

While book one Clean Start at Forty-Seven was full of the obstacles Kinsey had to get over to become his most authentic self and realizing that the beliefs of others were not his burden to bear. New Daddy at Forty-Seven was about what happens when you get to become that person, when you get to fall in love for the first time with someone who accepts you for you.

Kinsey made mistakes but now he is sober and trying to live his life the way he was never able to do before. Finding Benoni that day at his gym was the most unexpected thing that could have happened, and one of the best things that could have happened to him. He knows he has a long way to go but having someone there who understands your needs and wants the way that Ben does is unlocking a new side to himself Kinsey didn't even know existed.

Benoni has always been a caretaker but there is something about Kinsey that makes him want to take care of him in an entirely different way. He loves this man that he has known his whole life but in a new light he is seeing Kinsey as the person he could spend his whole life with but there is more. Protecting Kinsey isn't enough, he knows Kinsey needs more and it isn't until he calls him "daddy" that everything starts locking into place for them.

The hurt/comfort themes you loved from book one are present in this book but in a different way. As Benoni & Kinsey's relationship grows you start to see that Kinsey needs this other side of Ben, he needs to be taken care of to not have the weight of everything on his shoulders.

Head the triggers and the themes at play in this duet because it can be difficult for people who have experienced any or all these circumstances before. Don't give the author a bad rating because you don't "like" this type of story.

Seriously, I couldn't love these two guys any more than I do and with the way Nora did the epilogue it was a full circle situation that in my mind and heart couldn't have been any better. Love is love, and she conveyed that so beautifully in the pages of this duology that I won't be able to let it go for some time.

An okay duet… umm too much religious talk for my taste but when they weren’t discussing that it was pretty good the relationship was cute and minimal angst. Maybe we get Leif and Franks book if they haven’t already had one!

It's not often that I can honestly say this...but the truth is I accidently read this, the 2nd book, first. If you read this series, don't make the same mistake. We follow Benoni as he discovers that he wants to be a "Daddy" for his “boy”, Kinsey, and does a beautiful job of developing that role. The title’s reference to "New Daddy", is really more about Kinsey’s discovery that he wants and needs Benoni to assume this role for him. Kinsey struggle to understand his feelings, to grapple with his needs and he even wonders if he is entitled to fulfill them...to put himself first and stand up for what is necessary for his own happiness. What Kinsey discovers is that he needs Benoni to take his troubles and worries in the Daddy/boy lifestyle and he finally embraces it at the age of forty-seven. Nora Phoenix develops Kinsey and Benoni’s beautiful hurt/comfort, age gap, best friend’s father romance through some extraordinary character development, along with poignant scenes, detailed and a highly informative commentary on opioid addiction, religious homophobia, and a slow burn authentic relationship. For a story built on the premise of recovery and healing from devastation, the story is not especially high angst. The author continues to weave the treads together on Kinsey and Benoni’s complex, emotional love story and really highlights the exceptional relationship they have created in the way that best meets both their needs with no apologies to anyone. I liked the two main characters but hated how many years Kinsey went being shunned by his family, the people that should have loved him unconditionally. There was almost too much heartache and turmoil before good things began to happen for Kinsey. I was happy to see that Benoni was always there for him no matter what. Nora Phoenix remarks in the publisher’s note that this is her most personal story to date and she obviously has an important message to convey, but the details that are fascinating at the beginning become really almost overwhelming by the end, thus the 3.5-star rating.

Daddy’s Good Boy

Kinsey and Benoni’s story continues so don’t read this until you’ve read book one. We get more insight into Kinsey’s past. His story is told in flashbacks as he navigates his way through his painful past and he deprograms himself from the teachings against homosexuality in the church. The religious aspect was hard to read and it’s sad to know some churches still teach against homosexuality today.

Oh my goodness Kinsey and Benoni are adorable. They really work as a couple and I enjoyed that their relationship was low angst. With Benoni Kinsey didn’t have to be anything other than himself and the more he allowed himself to just be the more he emerged. Everyone needs a Benoni in their life and the courage to change.

And the Daddy, little boy kink…who couldn’t fall a little bit in love with a Daddy and his Little Boy 💙 I know I did 😍

Once again in Florida, we see our men, Kinsey and Benoni as they CONTINUE their relationship, and we watch the ups and downs as they PROGRESS, and we are lucky enough to get the DAZZLING epilogue.

Kinsey is mending his fences, by standing up for himself and being what he was meant to be. The future is his to cross into. Benoni is an awesome partner and Daddy for Kinsey, his sweet boy.

We watch Kinsey talk with his son, with Benoni, his Sponsor, and the few friends he's been lucky to find in his circle. His tale is a sad history of judgmental, religious, hateful so-called Christians, who were his family and they are a sorry group.

Benoni is by his side through every step, he's there to hold Kinsey, care for him, and guide him without being overbearing. Kinsey has had enough of that his whole life.
Kinsey's son finally comes around, while his relationship with Benoni grows and becomes a loving, freeing, exciting time. He's happier than he's ever been.

Kinsey's journey with addiction is detailed, with a few flashbacks throughout, and we learn so much.

There are many realizations, and Kinsey is coming into his own strength, speaking up, falling in love and finding a peace and contentment he never thought he'd have.

We see the thrills of first time M/M sexiness for Kinsey, as Benoni teaches and cherishes his boy, his Kinsey. Their times are erotic, hot and fulfilling.

There is blunt conversations, paying it forward, and reconnecting with the son and daughter, and we get to witness it all. Marvelous.

What a wonderful story, well written and heartwarming.
The epilogue is dazzling !
Highly recommended.
ENJOY !

I did not like this at all. I'm relieved it's only two parts so I can be done with it.

It was a continuation of the first - heavy on the preaching, and lecturing on religion.

Benoni annoyed me greatly with his far mature for his age attitude.

It completely lost me when it reached the "daddy" phase. And it was so improbable that the two couples that Kinsey met in two very different locations also had the same tendencies. It was just too on the nose.

The scenes with Judith and caroline were just too neat. I couldn't really get behind them.

I skipped all the sex scenes because it was just didn't work for me.

The only good thing I will say and is a good take away - open communication. Kinsey and Benoni spoke openly with their thoughts and feelings.

This one was better than the first book, but I still hated the switching between the present and the past. I wish we would've had more of them in the future. Did they get married? Did Ben move in with him? Etc... I just think that what was in the epilogue could've gone in a final chapter vs where it went. I almost felt like it was left open and not really closed.

A MM romance which goes from slowburn (of book 1) to holy hotness (book 2, now). It's got a beautiful Younger Daddy/Older Boy relationship, intimacy, friendships, reconnection, learning to heal & be fierce for yourself.
I started this asap after book 1! Gosh, I love them.

The VA John's voice shines here. Soft whispers making me feel as if I'm there for the intimate moments, while the angry & emotional voice made me feel so much 🥺. Listening to Daddy kink is freaking HOT omg 🥵. It's hilarious that I thought Kinsey was Kenzie due to pronunciation 💀.

I loved how sweet, caring, devoted Ben is to Kinsey. Him, his recovery, his happiness matters so much to B 🥺. I loved B's confidence in K! While K starts out cautious, reserved but hopeful for their relationship, I love how he blooms in it. K's so sweet, but his bratty, teasing side is fun! When K stands up for himself, for his love for B, I adored it. I also loved to see K calm, confident, smart in action as a doc, it truly is his calling! From their crushes, Lil horny flashbacks (book 1) to now this, what a ride 🥰.

Them being boyfriends then starting a Daddy/Boy relationship was developed well. That meet with Rhys+Cornell made me find their book (before & now again lol). It's so hot (spanking, horny anal-slut 🥵, etc) & wonderful as they settle into this, together 🥰. From honesty, secrecy from others to no more lies & living the truth out proud!

I hadn't expected more flashbacks but like book 1, they're insightful. I'm glad we got confrontations with so many in K's life (even some unexpected), so proud of him there. I'm glad his son comes around, dramatic tho 😂. K loves his children so much 🥺, I'm glad he'll get the chance to be their dad ❤️. Also the ending scenes were unexpected but I'm happy K got the reconciliations! I loved the friendships.

I was craving a B-POV at end ngl. I can imagine it but still 🥹. I'm so happy for B+K 🥰😭. Glad we've got a Leif+Frank novella, they were giving vibes 🤭.

Audiobook+Story ratings :
POV: 1st Person, Dual POV
Narration: Single, John Solo
1) The Characters: 5❤️/5
2) The Feels: 🥺😍🤭😳🥵😅😁😩😆😭😤😯🥰😉🙌🤬🙈☺️
3) Sexy/Steamy times: 4/5
4) Levels: Low-ish Angst, Very Cute, Moderate Dark (Past trauma)
5) Build up & Style: 4.5/5
6) Voice acting: 9/10 (great)

I loved this and it was a wonderful conclusion to the duology. You absolutely have to read the first book before this one so I'm not going to give away any spoilers here. The duology together is definitely a favorite and I can see myself rereading. As a whole, this is a story about learning to live for yourself and put your own needs and likes at the forefront. We deserve to be authentic and be happy and that's exactly what this one shows us. There's a lot of bumps along the way for these MCs but they work together to tackle them and move forward.

Marvelous conclusion to mm romance

You really need to read both books in this duology to get the full story and a terrific story it is. It’s sad and sweet, love and hate, addiction and recovery and of course romance. There is so much packed into this book that it’s hard to choose my favorite part. The characters are amazing and the plot brings up so many issues about modern life in a way that isn’t preachy all wrapped up with a satisfying Daddy/boy story. Enjoy

New Daddy at Forty-Seven by Nora Phoenix is the second book in her duology. In the first book we met Kinsey and Benoni. Kinsey grew up in a very religious church that said being gay was one of the biggest sins you could commit. He knew he was gay but tried everything to pray it away, even marrying and having children. As he grew older he was miserable because he couldn’t be his real self and after an accident he grew dependent on opioids because they numbed his feelings. This caused him to lose his job as a doctor and when he came out to his wife (although she knew) she divorced him and his children wouldn’t have anything to do with him. After rehab he needed to work on his health and body so he met Benoni at a gym where he became his trainer. Benoni was also his son’s best friend so he was much younger but they always liked each other in a friendly way. While working together they realized they had a lot in common and their friendship deepened. There were so many reasons that this shouldn’t work out, but it did and at the end of the first book they decided to start a real relationship. The second book starts here. Benoni continues to be a caretaker for Kinsey and eventually becomes his lover. This became a series of “firsts” for Kinsey and each time something new happened he fell more in love with Benoni as Benoni did with him. He also met some characters in a similar situation from a previous book that helped him realize that he wanted to be in a Daddy/Boy relationship and once Benoni heard about this he was in total agreement. They move in this direction and Kinsey flourishes. He becomes stronger in mind, body, and spirit and is able to stand up to people who got in the way of his healing and being in a gay relationship. He also stood up to his ex-wife and got back with his children. He even found an old friend that he thought he had wronged from his teenage years. This book had so many great “feels” and tender moments as well as angst. It showed how difficult it had to be for Kinsey growing up in a church that was so anti-gay, yet knowing he was gay and there was nothing he could do to change it and how this affected him for the rest of his life. It also showed Benoni as being wise beyond his years and such a caretaker that he became a good Daddy to his Boy. It also brought home the lesson that to be happy in life you need to be your true and authentic self no matter how difficult the situations you find yourself in. Nora Phoenix is one of my favorite authors and this duology does not disappoint. I highly recommend both books and I’m looking forward to reading more of her stories in the future.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.75 stars

This is the second book in the Forty-Seven Duology, and it picks up right where Clean Start at Forty-Seven left off. Other than a few flashbacks that give more background to how and when Kinsey’s life spiraled out of control, most of this book is in the present. And oh, what a great conclusion it was. Phoenix laid the ground work in the first story, and we had slow burn to get Kinsey and Benoni to this place. But this is where the MCs really bloom and find their HEA, and I was absolutely here for it.

This duology is really about Kinsey’s journey. A lot of the work was done before the duology starts, but Kinsey still has a long way to go. And he does. With every scene, Kinsey grows. His journey is one that’s fraught with heartache, pain, angst, and change. In this story, he’s finally in a place where he can take all he’s learned and put it into practice. And he does. It’s not easy, and he still has hiccups and stumbles, but I loved watching him stand up for himself.

What just happened????
I honestly don't how to express this.
The book feels so full and Sated. It's beyond satisfying.
While the first books feels like a start to a wonderful journey, where it clearly needs its pieces fitting. The second book here is so so complete and fitting like finally getting your puzzle solved. You get all questions answered.
The ending is wonderfully "Kinsey".
Kinsey is fucking brave and the development is more than good and he deserves it and when he meets r&c, the scene really made me cry because our boy really needs such people in his life.
Don't get me started on Benoni, he is an epitome of supporting and understanding daddy.
Although I was hoping to read a little about Frank and Leif and I had expected Frank and Kinsey moments some cause you know he's his first friend and all that.
It had a perfect amount of hot times and I loved it.
This books truly feels home to me and it will have place in my heart.

New author for me! I really enjoyed Nora Phoenix’s Forty-Seven Duet, she has a beautiful way of telling a story and the way she brought the story 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗲 really impressed me! 👏🏻 I’ll definitely be reading more of her books! Kinsey & Benoni were a super special couple! I fell hard for them and loved their age gap dynamic ! These guys had so much chemistry it was definitely palpable through the pages!! And that Benoni was one hot stud! 🥵🔥 The story had a more serious tone (with some chuckles here and there,) and I found myself choked up a couple times as Kinsey went through harsh times growing up in a very religious home. The secondary characters were awesome too, I am hoping for a Lief & Frank book in the future! 😍🌈😍🏳️‍🌈

🎧 I recommend the audible on this book!

The wait for the second half of this duology was worth it! This is book 2 (and must be read after book 1) and we see the blossoming of Benoni and Kinsey's relationship.
I delighted in seeing the raw emotion evident in this book. The tears and freedom to be true to themselves is something I ache for in other stories and am often left unsatisfied. Not so in this one - I feel emotionally sated.
Like book 1, New Daddy has lots of feeling and dials up the heat factor. It's great to get a glimpse at some old friends too.
Each thread of the story is beautifully concluded - some unexpectedly.
I can see these two books being go-to re-reads in the future when I need some heart massaging and deep feels. An all round great read.

DNF @ 50%

I'm sorry, but I just can't find the motivation to finish this. The romance isn't really anything I haven't seen from this author before and the story seems to meander around a lot. And while I'll take honest communication over misunderstandings any day, the characters in this seem way too perceptive. It seems like everyone can very easily figure out what someone else is thinking or feeling just by looking at them and I'm sorry to say this, but actual humans are not that smart. Because of that, there is very little conflict in the story and everyone seems to be on the same page almost all the time.

While the first of this duet was focused on Kinsey’s past, addiction recovery, healing from religious trauma, and accepting his life as a gay man, this one is focused on his relationship with Benoni and forgiveness. Closure with everyone from his past. And it’s just done so so well. More than once I shed tears over how far Kinsey had come. And his sexy relationship with Benoni was just the icing on the cake. I absolutely adored these two books. I adore these men. I honestly could read more from them.

This book was one I was truly looking forward to - Kinsey and Benoni’s relationship is unique, beautiful and absolutely perfect for them. I’ve recently really started to treasure these stories where people are finally embracing their true selves well into adulthood and Nora has given us a superb example. There is a whole lotta heat, even more care and communication and such growth & development - all the hallmarks of a great story in this trope.

I really loved this sequel and how it perfectly ended the story 🥰

I know it's all pretty idealised, and probably things wouldn't go this well for Kenzie irl, but it was refreshing and as much as I usually avoid religious topics because they trigger me, I find that this book handled everything well and in a realistic way, so I was pretty happy about the results!

Si prende un buon voto perché la storia è valida e affronta tematiche molto importanti quali la dipendenza e quanto la religione possa fare danni alle persone, ma serve un quality control migliore.

This review will sum up both books in this duology.

Kinsey's story was amazing. I have never read about addiction, really, so that was insteresting, and while I felt the religious trauma was a little heavy, I acknowledge that it is an issue for many.

However, Benoni definitely played second fiddle to Kinsey. Sometimes, he was just there. I don't really feel like I got to know him as anything other than Kinsey's daddy and Jonathan's friend.

Lastly, I will most likely never love when the younger person is the daddy. Something happens to the way the boy acts that I have trouble connection to the older partner - especially with such a big age gap as is here. It maybe played a little too heavily into Kinsey's inexperience, but not in a way that I could connect with.

This was a beautiful Duology. We get to see more of Kinsey's story in this one. It was an easier read in some ways as the harder issues were addressed in the first book, but it made this one even sweeter. We get to see him reap some of the benefits of his hard work in getting sober and healthy. Benoni was there for Kinsey through everything and so sweet. I loved these two, how everything worked out for them and I was so happy for them to get their HEA.
