Desperate times, desperate deals.

The bane of my existence, a.k.a. Zel, wants me to find the Red Angel—a.k.a. my secret identity.

The angel Gabriel wants me to find a summoner…and figure out how to kill them and free their angelic summon.

The summoners want more weapons, possibly for world domination.

And I just want to keep my secrets and try to pay rent. Is it too much to ask?

Apparently. But if I play my cards right, not only will I get my life back in order, but I’ll end up with a few angelic favors in my pocket. Talk about improving my rock-bottom standing in the magical community! I better bring my A-game, though, because when you’re talking angels, deals that sound too good to be true…

Always are.

Delve into the action-packed Urban Fantasy world of the Realms, featuring a down-on-her-luck, determined heroine, angels, demons, mayhem, and a slow-burn romance.

Disclaimer: I beta-read this book, but my review is honest.

I usually read much darker fantasy and don't often pick up urban fantasy books, but at the same time I must say, it's books like these that'll make me smile after the many years of...well *gestures at everything*

Things I loved:
* Ana Calliope Holt. Medina has an amazing voice, and Ana is witty, independent, clever, but also thoughtful.
* Best friends who trust each other. Found family trope is one of my favourites.
* Prose. Medina knows how to write a funny scene. And her voice is dripping from each page.
* Characters. Most of them are peculiar, fleshed out, intriguing, and I want more of them.
* The worldbuilding.
* The angels. I love them.
* Ancient weapons. And artefacts. I love all things ancient.
* The Archivist. Fantastic character!

Things I would have liked to see more of:
* Zel! Always Zel, but that's because I love angels and he's this magnificent creature, and I want him to pop up in my bedroom. I say that as a lesbian.

This is a fun and fast-paced sequel, and I recommend it to all fans of urban fantasy who like all the things I outlined above.

Ana isn't blacklisted by the Hunter's anymore, but she's still stuck with the demon vermin hunting job. It's not enough to pay the rent. But now two angels have asked for her help, and if she plays her cards right she might get her life back on track. The problem is that Zel has asked her to find the Red Angel - her secret identity. Besides, making deals with angels never ends like you expect them to...

Ana has been accepted by the Hunter's again (well, not by everyone...!), but it hasn't made a difference in her life. She's still behind on her rent and she can't tell anyone about being the new reincarnation of the Red Angel. On top of that, there's always someone asking for help or someone threatening her, and there is favors and returned favors left and right. Honestly, I'm having trouble keeping up with everything and everyone!

There's no lack of action in this book, and although it contains some violence the humorous tone keeps it "light". Sometimes I get a bit tired of Ana's inner monologues, and I don't find it all that logical that she keeps forgetting that Zel's asked her to find herself - literally. But other than that I quite enjoy hanging with Ana and her friends - and enemies! 😉

* I received an ARC from the author and I'm giving my honest review. *

At this moment I can’t think of a book that was more of a boring mess than this one.
Who writes these and who publishes these and more to the point who rates them SO highly?
I skimmed the second and fourth books, and this is a rating for the whole series. AWFUL.

Books like this are definitely a must during these difficult times! They make you smile, laugh and all around have a great time!!! I love Ana, I love Zel, and I adore the dynamics between them, particularly in this book. Ana is brave, although reckless, and optimistic. Zel is funny, selfish, and yes, I'd like to punch him in the face too, sometimes, but, although he started the story as someone who has no empathy, he is slowly learning (very slowly, but it is fun to watch him do it), and I believe this learning is helped a lot by all the punching.
I highly recommend you read this book if you need something to make your day better.

He pointed a furious finger at me. “You broke my friend’s nose!”

Dang. Loyalty amongst part-demons. The Hunters would be so disappointed.

“My bad?”

You have to be a clever writer to keep me entertained. I keep interrupting my husband’s TV shows with my giggling, but… priorities! I mean, any reincarnated red angel should be all-powerful, but no. Ana cannot even make rent with the cash she receives for hunting demon vermin because the Hunters don’t respect her enough to feed her real jobs.

But the real entertainment lies in the character interactions. My favorite is the Archivist, a creepy arachnid-like old woman in an orange sundress. She latches onto secrets like a silk cocoon around flies, and she loves to make deals.

Or Zel: “The part-angel does not awaken those kinds of feelings in me. She does not fit me. You are more curious to me.”

I sent him a sidelong glance. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

Yes, this romance junky sees tiny little lines like this and jumps to conclusions. Zel is one angel who just pops up randomly with demands, but I see him as the cuddly cat who lashes out with claws while you pet him. I like him.

Sol and Cole are a pair. Sol is the bestie, but Cole gets all the antisocial whining that makes me think of a younger brother.

Should I mention the plot? Does it even matter? 😂 Of course it matters. Plots are the stable elements that make all this fun work! Assigned by the big bad angel Gabriel to free another angel [who, me?], and assigned by Zel to find herself, the Red Angel, she gets deeper and deeper into a hole trying to sort of, maybe do something that looks like she is working without really working. In not attempting to find herself, Ana discovers the human Summoners, despite being considered small fry, are actually planning to create a world of chaos.

In all this confusion, I am really grateful for the theme, which is freeing individuals from slavery. Free the entrapped souls. Free the bonded angels and demons. Long live back-stabbing! 😂

“Sol was comfortable. Zel kept me on my toes. There was space for both in my life”

“we all deserved our moments of melodramatic divadom.”

SOME SPOILERS

Just finished this one… A tad bit slower in the beginning but as enjoyable and by the end it pays off.
I'm really curious as to know what is the real agenda of the summoners (and Zel) in this whole deal. I knew, I just knew there was no way she was that lucky hiding her real identity from him. But when the revelation came up, it still made me excited. Last book was all about selling her soul to the devil to get to true. This one is all about how that came to bit her in the ass. I love the appearance of Gabriel as a new peace disruptor for Ana, I love the headquarters owner being such a father figure to her and Ana's relationship with Zel. He does seem to be fond of her, and the next moment he does something that betrays that feeling. While Ana too seems to be regarding him positively, and then realize he may be well playing with her. There is this entire cat and mouse play going around those two. One moment he is staking claim over a sandwich and the next letting her fight alone just to see how she fends. One moment he protects her and the next steals from her. But in all that, he seems drawn to her like nothing else.

Ana is still broke and unable to find good paying jobs but she does have a couple of quests that could give her favours from angels.
Zel wants to find the Red Angel, Ana figures she can give some information to keep him happy but also keep her identity safe.
Gabriel wants her to locate a summoner and help release the angel that has been trapped.
Unfortunately, both have only given her days to find the answers.
With the help of her best friend, Sol, and the hunter, Cole, Ana sets out to see what she can do.
There is a lot of things happening in the underground black market, some information and lots of danger.
This book goes from the black market to hidden hunter bases and some peoples’ homes. Sol has a much larger part in this book and fortunately her brother, Ramon, doesn’t – I don’t like him.
Zel is both helpful and a hindrance, not really sure what to make of him. Sometimes I see a possible romance, others he just seems to be an ass.
There is a lot of action, suspense, surprises, humour with the usual great characters and interactions.
There is actually so much that could happen, both good and bad, I’m fully looking forward to the next book.

Ana still can’t really make a living, despite no longer being blacklisted by the Hunters. Desperate to be able to pay her rent, well alright not really, but she does want her bike back as it’s being held for ransom by her landlord, she really needs a well paying job. The problem is she has to use favours to help her get by, and everyone keeps calling them in.

I like Ana and her friends, and it’s a nice, entertaining read. At times I felt as though there might be a bit too much going on, but it does make for interesting reading. A nice sense of humour runs gently through the dialogue, and the Angel/Devil combinations work nicely (both sides really trying to take advantage of Ana, who realises this much too late.) It’ll be interesting to see where Anas story goes next.

“Same demon hunting job… Now with add ons.”

Book 2 of the Realms Unleashed series did not disappoint! We continue the story of Ana, the blacklisted demon hunter who has a powerful secret, now with even more favours owed and a bigger secret to keep. As expected with Ana’s luck everything crumbles around her - but it is not without sarcastic humour and a plucky attitude.

I really enjoyed the addition of more angels and demons - world that Medina has created continues to be fascinating. Sol and Cole become more involved in the story which I loved, but Too Good barely rates a mention! I really wanted him to come back this book, so I hope he’s in the next one.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. If you are looking for a fun fast paced read this series is for you. Here is a creature so powerful everyone is looking for her; but paying rent is a major no go. She has to have a spreadsheet on her phone to keep track of all the favors she owes; (her currency of choice when broke). The world building is well done; but what makes this a winner is the characters. There is a lot of action that keeps me engaged; not to mention a very slow burn romance that does nothing but crack you up. If you want a fun action paced read this is for you.

Angelic Deals raises the stakes in Realms Unleashed: Red Angel, throwing Ana into an even more dangerous web of secrets and bargains. With the infuriatingly persistent Zel hunting for the Red Angel—who just happens to be her—Ana must juggle keeping her identity hidden while taking on a job for none other than the angel Gabriel. Summoners, secret weapons, and shady deals make survival trickier than ever, but if she plays her cards right, she might just come out ahead. Fast-paced, witty, and full of supernatural intrigue, this sequel delivers on action, mystery, and tension.

good

I definitely like this book as much as I did the first book in the series. Every time Ana turns around it seems like Zel is there to bother her. I like the fact that her friend soul is helping her a little more in this book and Coll is helping her as well because he doesn’t seem to have a lot of Hunter duties. Zel is still a jerk but he does come to help Anna. I bet the next book is going to be as good as this one. I’m excited to read it.

An excellent read

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had to finish it in one sitting. While trying to extricate herself from one disaster after another, Ana finds herself getting asked to rescue an Angel trapped by a summoner. Not to mention keeping her secret from being exposed, being threatened by both demons and angels and preventing the theft of another artifact. A well written and fast paced storyline. Highly recommend.

Enjoy this series. Did find this book had a lot of characters in it which became a bit confusing at times. Lots of action. Love the slow burn romance happening in the background and what a surprise ending, cliffhanger.

Starting to laugh now. Still like the Fae series better but these are all really engaging. Nothing like being caught in the middle of everything. Someday we will find out the background to all the secrets but we're going to have to keep reading. What an entertaining way to spend an evening or two.

This fell a bit short of five stars, but I still enjoyed it a ton. Some parts felt rushed somehow, even though I enjoy the fast paced storytelling.

But Ana... you silly forgiving and way too trusting young woman... I wanted to scream at the end. XD

Waiting for the next one!

omg

These books are so good. None stop action, twists an turns, and a very snarky red angel. Absolutely love this world. Very different than what I usually read. This girl gets in so much trouble, it’s a wonder she will live through all these books.

funny, sassy & lighthearted

Recommend this series to anyone who likes fantasy adventure. So far there’s been pretty good character building but toward the end it’s getting a bit monotonous, hope for improvement in the next installment and some romantic action too.
