Cecily von Ziegesar is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Gossip Girl novels, upon which the hit television show is based.

Cecily von Ziegesar was born in New York City. Her childhood dream was to grow up to be a ballerina; she began lessons at age 3 and auditioned for the School of American Ballet at age 8, but was rejected.

As a teenager, von Ziegesar commuted to Manhattan at 6 a.m. to attend the Nightingale-Bamford School. After graduating from Nightingale, von Ziegesar attended Colby College before spending a year in Budapest working for a local radio station.

Von Ziegesar returned to the United States to study creative writing at the University of Arizona, but dropped out shortly thereafter.

Back in New York, while working at book-packaging firm Alloy Entertainment, von Ziegesar became inspired to create the Gossip Girl series, which follows the lives of privileged teenagers in New York. The series climbed to the top of The New York Times best-sellers list in 2002. A spin-off series, The It Girl, made the list in 2005.

The Constance Billard School for Girls in Gossip Girl is based upon an exaggerated version of von Ziegesar's alma mater, Nightingale. She also culled events from the book from the lives of her extremely wealthy friends, as well as her own life as a perpetual gossip.

She lives in Brooklyn, New York with her family.

Current result of game known as "Trying my best to finish this series while Cecily von Ziegesar does her best to make me give up":

So far, I'm winning!

And I actually enjoyed this one more than preovious sequels.
Characters were same ol' morons, but they made me wanna pour a glass of champagne and nod my head in aristocratic way, being all like "Oh isn't the life hard for the young ones?"
Also, catch the next ferry to Hamptons.

PS Yup, I'm pretty sure my IQ dropped a little bit.

I found this one to be just....boring. At least Jenny was gone, so that was an improvement.

Cecily Von Ziegesar has a way of introducing new characters that are completely one dimensional, add a mystery and then completely forgets about them. It's a unique talent. And that's about sums up the latest books. She can't be bothered to truly invest her time in new characters so her original characters have nothing to do but go around in circles forever. Also, she seems very uninterested in the whole Gossip Girl thing, it's barely in the book and I don't know who it's going to go back to being relevant.

Eh, I am basically just skimming these at this point. I feel like I just need to finish the series, but the stories have become so drab. *yawn*

I'm importing a lot of these reviews from my blog, so these are from the point at which I read these books. This was the first Gossip Girl book I read, and I went on to read the first book within a week of reading this one, so I must have liked it more than it sounds here:

This book wasn't very good, but I still read it in pretty much one sitting. The most surprising thing about it wasn't the sex (a lot of sex was alluded to, but no one actually had any) but how much the characters smoked. They all smoked literally the entire book, except for one character who did not smoke cigarettes but was smoking a joint in literally every scene. I was surprised that in the complaints I've heard about this kind of book they've never mentioned that. Also, all the adults in the book took the kids deadly seriously, but that's neither here nor there. Sort of like with Teen Vogue, I wasn't particularly sure why real teens would be interested in this -- even I found the label-dropping tedious after like five pages, and I don't care how savvy the girls in the Midwest supposedly are these days, between the clothes, the clubs, and the restaurants, there's no way they are picking up on this.

The name of this book is called Only in your dreams by Cecily von Ziegesar. Of course as part of the gossip girl series it has a lot of drama and its very intense with much gossip around with everyone in the book. Its the summer before they all head off to college and its a very sizzling one because Blair goes to London with her boyfriend Lord Marcus. He of course is very high in his power and in where he lives in. Chuck is a bit jealous of their relationship. Nate goes back to the Hamptons. Theres Vanessa and Dan in New York getting their friendship back together and becoming closer than ever. Serena is at New York trying to mend her heartbreak with Dan and spends a lot of time by herself redeeming herself and finding someone else perhaps.

I would recommend this book to many girls that love the show Gossip girl. Its very interesting and it captures your attention because you can relate to their problems and its fascinating how things change throughout.

I felt like very little happened in this book. I also found some continuity errors and typos.

One of the things that annoys me about Serena, Nate, and Blair is that they sometimes seem so dissociative and vapid in their thinking...like thinking is just soooo hard and they can't quite wrap their brains around something obvious. They feel annoyed, confused, or unsettled, but because they don't like the unpleasant feeling, their brains circumvent thoughts that would lead to that feeling.

I just picture them as wide-eyed babies, staring agape at some mysterious sight above their head, puzzling over what it could be and maybe drooling a little. Which would be fine if they really were babies, but I think they're 17?

I'm giving an extra star for Blair in this book.
This might actually be my favourite one so far, if I had to pick one.
It was so ridiculous at times I had to laugh out loud.

Also the typos are killing me...like this is book 9 what's up with the formatting in these books?!

Serena me cayó bastante bien.
Raro, I know.

This book is also one of my favorites. I mean, everyone who goes through college-college knows what I'm talking about.

In Only in Your Dreams, our dear friends, Nate, Serena, Dan and Chuck – our dear Jenny good and Blazer going through some boarding school to get it are practically on vacation!

High school is over and they are getting ready for their graduations. I'm very happy with Blair Waldorf in this book. Finally it seems that the author can end the girl's life and wanted to at least give the girl a pleasure book. Well, that's right, she gets into Yale! But it was very difficult to achieve this feat.

The coolest thing was putting Serena von der Woodsen down (well, not exactly). It looks like she's now on everyone's lips as The Girl Who Impersonated Blair Waldorf's Outfit. Nate goes to work at his Field Lacrosse coach's house because he was caught stealing Viagra from him.

And Jenny? She did manage to get over her father's head so she could get into a good boarding school far away from the Upper East Side. Now they will have to follow her in another series – called It Girl.

Ah, the end is about to arrive… what will it be like?

It was quite bland. The further along I get in the series, the more and more familiar it feels. I didn’t think something I read 13 years ago would have stuck with me so much. I definitely liked it a hell of a lot better back then than I do now.

I must say after two weak books the series catches up again! This book was funnier than the other ones it seriously cracked me up at some parts and it is addicting as ever. Loved Serenas and Blairs storyline in this one!

i'm so entertained right now, review soon

march 21 post

this is also posted in my blog THE DAILY FATRICK

The ninth book in the Gossip Girl series creatively written by the ever-catty Cecily von Ziegescar, Only In Your Dreams, is the eight book I’ve read in the year 2013.

Have you ever tried reading a book where in the first fifty pages were just plain boring and you almost gave up reading the whole thing and then you realized it’s the last page? Well, this book is certainly entertaining. In the beginning, there were a lot of introductions to the new situations our beloved GG characters are in which will be told without any spoilers later. So, intro. I was literally thinking of giving the book one-star. Now, I don’t like giving books a star out of five because I believe why would a publishing company publish a book that sucks and is 200+ pages worth of the author’s hardwork?

Yes, I read chic-lit. And I’m secretly reading them away from the sight of my friends because they’ll judge me. Gossip Girl is simply irresistable! My inner chic (not my ‘inner goddess’ from the horny book) is just totally out on this book. I’m blushing right now, I can’t believe I am going to publish this for the whole world.

But I have to, I have to write 100 book reviews this year. (I love setting goals!)

Well, let’s go to the story, shall we?

If you don’t read these kinds of novels, then you should just probably go but take a chance maybe there is something worth being curious for.

The blonde and beautiful protagonist, Serena van der Woodsen has landed a big role on a big Hollywood teen movie by the bossy director Ken Mogul. Remember on the previous book—the Blair versus Serena audition? Serena is definitely gorgeous. And Serena has a very hot costar Thaddeus, whose real name is Tim but that’s not the point. I’m hearing unethical sex on the set perhaps? No. I’m not.

Blair, queen B, is in London. Oh wait. Blair is stuck in London with her English minor Royal boyfriend Lord Marcus who has a cousin or whatever she is to him that ruined her stay in London. She then strides off to buy a wedding gown for herself and booked an expensive ticket back to New York, disappointed. And then, she lands a summer job. That’s one way to keep busy, B.

Nate is basically the most stupidest and least interesting character in the book and the series but he is still a great addition to be honest, if you know what I mean. Nate, due to his Viagra-stealing-from-his-Coach-before-graduation episode in the previous book, has to work hard to earn his diploma by fixing his Coach’s house and ran errands for him in the Hamptons but then she meets a weird yet completely irrelevant girl who have sex with Chuck in the bathroom at the end of the book. And then, he is still incomplete without his poor Blair. I think Nate is just really trying to find comfort in his life. He’s lost. He needs something—a purpose to go on with this life and not to float around the book with no-one-really-cares-about story lines von Ziegescar is assigning to him.

Dan, my favorite fictional character of all time, is stacking bookshelves and giving recommendations to nerdy customers. And then, she meets an interesting girl whose name is Bree. (All I could think about Bree was the fact that she is actually my first character in my novel I never published. She’s kind of like a similar Blair to me but… that’s not a point). Dan Humphrey, then, goes to a naked yoga class with her and jog without lungs at the park because he’s kind of bored with Vanessa. Vanessa’s been kicked out from her house by her sister Ruby to make room to Ruby’s new Czech-kind-of boyfriend. Vanessa moves in with Dan and lands a job in Ken Mogul’s film and then things went interesting and down.

Jenny is absent but her name is floating around. Chuck Bass makes appearances here and there. I keep asking myself why wasn’t he a central character. I checked the book publishing date and it was published in 2006, and Gossip Girl TV series with Chuck Bass as main character first aired in 2007 so…

God, this review is too long.

The book wasn’t so bad.

There was a lot of quotable quotes from the ever bitch Gossip Girl. Her persona on the book is just a reminding presence on how saucy and delicious New York—Manhattan life is.

I love the chapters as well. I love everything about it. I’m so entertained. And there’s no doubt I’ll be buying its sequels. I’m thinking of reading another von Ziegescar this year—Cum Laude? I don’t think I will like her spin-off series It Girl, who centers on Jenny’s adventures, and there’s no Blair Waldorf.

Why did I love this book?

That’s a secret I’ll never tell.

XOXO

What do I REALLY think of this book? Let me spell it for you: B-O-R-I-N-G! At least Nate finally got over his crying spurts. Actually, this book makes it feel like that never even happened. But anyways, let me just break down the repetitive storyline for you: Serena attempts to be an actress and falls for her co-star, Thad (surpirse, surprise). Vanessa and Dan are on the mend and then break up again after Vanessa finds Dan with another girl (surprise, surprise). Blaire looses that Lord guy, falls for another, and then realizes she still loves Nate (surprise, surprise). And Nate? He falls for some trashy Hamptons girl but then realizes Blaire is the one he wants (surprise, surprise). I guess the only new thing, and quite a shocker, is that Blaire gets a J-O-B after her parents FINALLY recognize her obnoxious spending habits. Woah now! Parents are actually starting to give a crap about what their child is doing?! This isn't normal! On another note, when am I going to get a fresh plot to this series? Not getting my hopes up for the next one up!

I agree with what some of the other people are saying this book is no where near as good as the other books, it seems as if ever since the kids graduated the author has run out of ideas. And those reviewers who are complaining about how this book isn't apporiate for younger readers, shoud know this book is for ages 16 and up and every 16 year old has heard or used the "f" word at least once in their lives. Yes there is a lot of sex, drugs, and bad language but that's a part of the real world.

Everything about these books is starting to get redundant. The characters, the settings, parties, situations are all the same. There is no time in between the books so we pick up right where we left off but everything is rehashed and nothing changes by the end of the book except how close the characters are to college.

This was an okay instalment, only things were a bit all over the place with some people in the city, some in London and some in the Hamptons, and it didn’t really go together all that well.
