A long-ago illicit relationship continues to upend lives in this taut psychological suspense novel . . .
Fifteen years ago, teenage Erin had an affair with her teacher that led to tragedy and changed Erin’s life. Today, she’s a married woman who keeps to herself and stays close to home, still scarred by the experience.
When she’s attacked while running in the park, Erin doesn’t tell her husband—but she does confide in Nick, the man who came to her rescue. Then letters start to arrive, making references to her past and leaving her even more unnerved. When a neighbour reports that someone’s been watching her house, Erin’s world starts to crumble.
Erin has worked hard to distance herself from her past. But her life may be in mortal danger, and as she’s plunged back into trauma, she might finally learn the truth about what really happened all those years ago . . .

Thank you Bloodhound Books for the advance copy in exchange for a honest review. Erin is running in the park and woods when she is brutally attacked. Thankfully she is rescued by Nick who is out walking his dog. Then Erin starts to get anonymous letters referring to a tragedy in her past. She feels neglected by her older husband and starts to meet Nick to confide in him. A outstanding gripping thriller. Highly recommended.
What a great read! I was hooked from beginning. The story moves from the past to the present and it left me guessing how both stories were connected right up to the last minute. The characters were all so likeable and I didn’t see the twist at the ending coming. Recommend to everyone how likes a good thriller!
Ripple Effect by N.A. Cooper is a story about accepting your role in past events and assigning blame to the parties truly responsible for the outcomes of their decisions. As a teenager, Erin was involved in an affair that scandalized her community and drove her away from her childhood home. As an adult, Erin has almost lived her life in penance, while she stays in a loveless marriage. After an attack on her thirtieth birthday, Erin meets a man, Nick, who ran to her rescue. She begins to reassess her life as she grows closer to him and farther away from her husband. I liked flipping between the past and the present as details began to unweave the thread of pain and guilt Erin had sewn over herself. I was glad to see the growth of the protagonist and some of the secondary characters during the story. The ending may shock some readers, as there is a twist. The book is an entertaining page-turner, and I recommend the story to experienced readers.
Wow! The cover and title of “Ripple Effect” by N.A. Cooper really depicts this book perfectly, the ripples you see on top of the water hides a much bigger movement underneath…. Told in two time frames, this book is brilliantly told. The characters are expertly described and the reader is drawn into a story of secrets and lies. I spent time reading this under my duvet, reading long into the night relishing the perfect storytelling of this debut novel. A fantastic first book from N.A. Cooper.
Beautifully written mystery suspense full of tension and emotion.
Cooper creates prose in such a well crafted manner that you envision yourself in each scene. It's hard not to stand by your window and look out into the dark to check everything is okay. That you're safe.
Written in dual timelines we learn about Erin's past and present. This was executed perfectly and built up my concerns for her wellbeing. I particularly loved the thread between her and her father. All the memories of their life together and the affinity to the sea.
Cooper has a great way of picking up the small things in life we might fail to notice. More than a few times I stopped to ponder her thoughts and how they related to me. I love that in a book.
I couldn’t work out who was to blame for what was happening to Erin even although I had a host of suspects. Skillful plotting kept changing my mind.
A fabulous debut and I look forward to reading more by this author.
I love a good psychological suspense with an interesting and complex female character, so all of my wishes came true when I read Ripple Effect. It is a taut psychological thriller, written so brilliantly that not one word is wasted. I read it in one day, each page turn bringing more excitement.
N.A. Cooper is a new voice in psychological fiction and they are certainly one to watch. Ripple Effect is a masterclass in writing and oh-so-perfect in many ways. It takes some tough subjects and handles them with grace. Every character is so well-rounded and written without judgement. Brilliant.
An incredibly well written debut psychological thriller. I loved not only the story but the descriptions of being by the sea, especially as Minnis Bay is a favourite of mine. We follow the story of Erin and what happened fifteen years and how it affects her day-to-day life now. I felt for her, I wanted to befriend her and her story will stay with me. Wonderful.
I just couldn’t put this book down and read it in one day! Ripple Effect is an absolutely superb debut psychological thriller that gripped me from the opening powerful chapter until the deeply satisfying ending. What I liked about it was how it ramped up the suspense and tension with every page without losing sight of the emotional pain and sense of shame the young woman at the centre of the story carries forward from her past. It tells the story of Erin Knight who is locked in a loveless marriage with a much older wealthy man, but after she is attacked, Erin’s already fragile world begins to crumble as a long buried secret - her affair with a teacher when she was a girl - begins to catch up with her. The story switches deftly between the past and the present and the author brilliantly handles what is a difficult subject - Erin’s affair - with incredible skill as the vulnerable teenager, flattered by the attentions of her teacher Danny is unaware that she is being manipulated by him. The way N A Cooper writes Danny’s grooming and Erin’s belief that she is special to him and that his love for her is real had such an authenticity about it that I found it incredibly compelling but also horrifying as the naive Erin falls deeper for Danny, oblivious to devastation that is to come. This is a taut, pacy thriller that I just couldn't put down. A fantastic novel that should take its rightful place alongside the best in this genre.

Great story and characters. I liked Erin's character. Kept me reading until the last page. 4*.
Erin Knight is attacked while on a morning jog. A stranger comes to her rescue which could have turned out very, very bad for her. She doesn't tell her husband what happens, even though she wonders why she felt the need to lie to him about what happened. This sets up the story to look into Erin's past and what happened when she was fifteen and fell in love with one of her teachers. The story goes from present to past, which I usually don't like in a story, but it helped with this one. I truly enjoyed this book which isn't the genre I usually read. There is a surprise twist that I did not see coming until the author 'allowed' me to see it. Very good! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I really enjoyed Ripple Effect, even though the pace was slower than what I initially expected. We follow Erin, a 30 year old married woman who gets attacked on her birthday. While she grows closer to the man who interrupted the attack and saved her, we learn more about her past in a series of flashbacks. I thought this was a really interesting story. At first I kept expecting something big to happen, so I was surprised at the pace throughout the book. Without spoiling anything, I would also say that I was happy I called some of the events that happen both in the past and in the present day. I was happy with the ending, as I thought it made sense.

This was quite the read! Such an emotional, tragic story. I felt for the 15 year old Erin. At that age a young girl is so easily manipulated. What makes this book so entrancing in that the actions and mistakes from the past causes ripple effects that affect her in the future. N.A. Cooper has written such an amazing book that has an ending so crazy and unpredictable. I was left in total shock and awe. I applaud this author, and look very much forward to reading more of her books in the future.
N A Cooper is a new writer to me and I am very grateful to Bloodhound Books for giving me the chance to read an advance copy of Ripple Effect, which is an excellent psychological thriller. When Erin was fifteen years old she had a relationship with her Geography teacher, a period of her life which ended devastatingly and which still affects her now. When she is attacked while out running, the events of the past are brought back into focus and her life seems to be in danger. A gripping and intriguing read.
Erin is attacked whilst running in the park, she is saved by Nick, a dog walker, and his dog. Although she is battered and bruised she will not report to the police nor does she tell her husband. The story reveals that when she was 15 Erin was involved with her teacher, a married man of 44 with a family. We learn more about the relationship against her growing friendship for Nick and the realisation her marriage is a sham. There are a few revelations as the book nears its end and surprises. A thoroughly good read.
A good read, told in two parts. Erin is attacked when out running and is immediately transported back to what happened to her when she was 15. We are told the story chapter by chapter of then and now. Now, Erin is married to a wealthy man who doesn’t seem to have much respect for her. Then, she feels responsible for what happened to her teacher.
A good thriller that keeps you gripped until the end.
This is my honest unbiased review of a arc book, thanks to Bloodhound Books. Fifteen year old Erin falls in love, and has an affair with her teacher. Which leads to one repercussion after another, even still Fifteen years later. This is a very compelling story line which has you on the edge of your seat, wondering what will happen next. A book full of twists and turns and surprising revelations. A most enjoyable book.
Fast paced? Check. Interesting? Check. Twist at the end? Check. This novel has everything you need to keep you turning pages until late at night. N.A. Cooper has now become one of my favorite authors! I'm excited to read another very soon!
I like a book with different timelines & this was done really well. I thought I had figured out what was going on but I was wrong. Main character is relatable & it is fast paced enough to keep you gripped.
This book had me hooked from the very first chapter! Absolutely loved the main character Erin and the switching between the past and present kept me guessing how the two would link together. Incredible page turner with a great plot twist! Will definitely be reading more from NA Cooper.
An amazing read! Had me hooked right from the beginning and I could have easily finished reading in one sitting as it was so gripping. I did guess who was behind the things happening to Erin, but I couldn't of guessed the why, as there was a major twist towards the end.
I love this story told in two time frames. Erin is attacked and it seems to be linked to an affair she had in her youth with her teacher. As both stories are told they begin to come together. It's an unhurried story giving time for the whole truth to come out. I loved Erin, she has a horrible past and her present life is falling apart. She was and still is vulnerable. The characters are not so nice with the exception of her saviour Nick and her husbands father. A really satisfying read.
Well this is the first book that I have read by this Author and once I started it could not put it down until i had finished reading it I throughly enjoyed this book and this is my honest review. Definitely a five star book.
This is one of these books that changes from past to present with every chapter - personally I find this extremely annoying but a lot of authors seem to write this way, however, the story was good and it wove well together from beginning to end of the book. The twist at the end was totally unexpected. if you like a good thriller then this book will appeal. Certainly worth reading.
This was an ARC copy given to me by bloodhound books and this is my honest review. Really enjoyed this book. It had me gripped from the beginning. I didn’t like the main character at first but she had grown on me by the end. And the twist definitely surprised me. Highly recommended x
I went through the full gamut of emotions with this book. One decision can have repercussions that are long reach. The writing keeps you engaged with the characters and invested in Erin's life. I wanted to read quickly to find out what happens but at the same time I didn't want it to end.
This was a good and enjoyable book to read. I loved the dual timeline and the main character Erin was very likeable. When she is attacked whilst out and starts to get anonymous letters through the post she thinks her past has caught up with her. But who is doing this, what do they know and why now? The book had mostly likeable characters, a few I loathed and was very well written. It flowed really well and the move from past to present in the story was seamless and easy to follow. I thought I knew who was behind what was happening to Erin and was wrong, and the ending surprised me. I read this book in one day and whilst I thought it was a good, engaging read it didn’t wow me or have me on the edge of my seat, and showed that any actions can have the worst consequences and affect so many people along the way.
3.5 stars

I don’t remember the last time I was so bored with reading a book and it took me waaaay too much time to force myself to go through it. Erin was such a tedious character it almost made me barf. There was absolutely nothing about any of the characters I found interesting - poor development and facts that don’t lead to anything/add zero to the story. Too many „daddy” flashbacks, Erin worshipping everything he said, hanging on his every ‚golden thought’. The thing with Nick was predictable and the flat ending felt rushed as hell. Can’t say I enjoyed this book.

The incredibly suspenseful plot of Erin trying to decipher who attacked her is masterfully interwoven with an exploration of grief, guilt, shame, manipulation and the path to healing. Add this one to your list!
