A story of ambition, corruption, and adultery. Set in the backdrop of a modern-day police station.
Emma had two dreams she longed for. To fall madly in love and to become a police officer. Unlike most stories, both of her dreams come true. But as she starts living her dreams, the reality differs immensely. She falls in love and joins the police at a dangerous and turbulent time. A time of whistle-blowers when some management seeks out corruption.
As she climbs the work ladder, she encounters challenges she did not expect - professionally and personally. Does she turn a blind eye or report corruption and face being disowned and all of her hopes and ambitions destroyed? Does she risk losing her family for a few brief encounters with a colleague?
This debut novel puts a fresh spin on policing and love stories with a strong female lead, facing a spate of dilemmas. This story is fast-paced and action-packed. DEEP has been described as a rollercoaster ride that doesn’t stop until the very last page.
The journey to getting DEEP to completion proved to be difficult and turbulent for debut Irish author, LA Power. DEEP was started over five years ago. After a tough few years which involved changing jobs, moving home, a wedding, life changing illness, a miracle baby (and not to mention COVID!!) It has taken determination and perseverance to bring DEEP to the market. LA Power aims to bring a fresh spin to the Irish fiction scene. With a unique insight into policing, LA will bring you on a journey with many twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. DEEP is just the beginning of this exciting journey for the newest author to hit the scene.
This was a lot of story shoved into a single book. We go from Emma meeting Matthew, to her joining the police academy. Through her underwhelming beginnings as an uniformed officer to clawing her way to the drug unit.
It’s in the drug unit that her world both blows up with adventure and camaraderie but also unravels as she’s exposed to corruption, addiction, infidelity and obsession.
So often we come across male characters that are dishonorable, selfish, assholes in general. They make the worst decisions, they treat everyone like trash. But we like them, at the very least accept them in all their morally ambiguous glory.
Very rarely do I come across a female character with those same qualities. And when we do they’re labeled as unacceptable bitches. That’s not the case in Deep, in Emma we find a character that does what she wants. And if we’re willing to accept it in our male characters, we should be able to offer their counterparts the same respect.
This was the wildest rollercoaster that never stopped until you came to the end like smashing into a brick wall.
I’ve got to assume by that ending that there’s more to come. Even though I’m trying not to be judgmental, I can’t help but hope all these characters eventually get what they each deserve.
While this was highly entertaining, I need to point out that the formatting and editing needed a lot of work. I also would’ve liked more character description, I have no idea what any of these characters look like. Otherwise I have high hopes for this new author.
Addictive, Dynamic, Intense. Romance is my favourite genre to read and this was my first introduction into the world of police romance books. We meet Emma, the main character and get to follow and develop with her as she enters into the police force and grows as a person. Once she enters the police force, the plot takes many twists and turns as we get introduced to new characters. I felt this book was very addictive which makes me very much look forward to reading the sequel to this book. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance and suspenseful reads as those are the two main ingredients in this book. Thank you to the author for sending me a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A police romantic suspense. A love story of ambition, corruption and adultery set in the backdrop of a modern day police station in Ireland. I put a lot of hard work into the book and cover. I hope it attracts your attention and furthermore I hope the story holds your attention.
This is my debut Novel. I have tried to build up my characters in the first few chapters to add depth and feeling to their story.
This story has been described as well-written with a consistent and absorbing narrative.
I hope you the reader, takes a chance on my first novel DEEP and pick it up. The characters have been alive inside my head for a long time, it's great to get my story down on paper.
I appreciate any and all feedback.
@l.a.powerauthor is probably the easiest way to get me.
Thank you so much to L.A. Power for the gifted copy of your book! A story of corruption, secrets, romance, action, and ultimately the question of where to draw the line, this book has a little bit of everything! I loved the inclusion of action-packed police work and also the more intimate scenes between two of our MCs. The writing style was unique, but the formatting took me a second to get used to. The story covered a longer span of time than I was expecting and we got a lot more out of Emma's journey than I was anticipating with the length of novel. I wasn't expecting steam, but I am totally here for it! I feel attached to Emma now, although I don't particularly love the path she has chosen, I feel invested in knowing where her journey will take her next and what big decisions she will make.
Emma has dreamed of joining the police force for a long time, so she puts her head down and works her butt off to accomplish it. Unexpectedly, Matthew comes into her life and sweeps her off her feet. Now, she has everything she had ever dreamed of. When her work begins as a police officer, she is eager to climb the ranks and make a name for herself. As she climbs the ladder, she soon starts to discover that things don't seem to be all above board at work. Not only that, she starts to question not only herself, but her relationship, her morals, and her career. Emma has gotten herself into some deep (ha) situations, but what can she do to get herself back on track?
I hope there will be more of Emma in the future, I need to know what she decides!
This was my first police romance novel I've ever read. It was an interesting read, filled with lots of police chase, spicy scenes and some suspense! I enjoyed the fact that the author left the ending open for the possibility of a sequel!
Thank you @l.a.powerauthor for the copy of your debut novel in exchange for an honest review! It was a good read!
In Too Deep ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 This is LA Power’s debut novel and tells the story of Emma. Life’s good for Emma as she fulfils her goals of finding love and joining the police force. Over the years we see Emma advance in her career becoming more involved in high risk cases and exposed to more corruption and temptations.
There’s a lot of story and it focuses on a few different characters and is told in multiple points of view focusing on personal relationships and the day to day work on the beat and in the drug squad. It is a cheating trope as pointed out by the author in her notes so consider if this might be a trigger for you and it ends on a cliffhanger.
LA Power asked me to read and review Deep although I purchased the book. Congratulations on your debut. 3.5 drama filled stars.
Thank you so much for the gifted copy of your book! This book had a LOT going on. Corruption, action, huge secrets, and steam were all included in this book. I wasn’t expecting for there to be so many plot twists that affected our MC! The book was very suspenseful and very “movie like.” While I didn’t necessarily love some of the decisions Emma made, I was completely sucked in and am curious as to what will happen next in her story.
This book is definitely for fans of romance/suspense! I would also recommend to people who love soap operas because there’s a LOT of drama and deception!
This is neither a straightforward crime story or a romance. It's a mix of both and that gives it a lot of appeal because you feel you're dealing with real people. The writer clearly knows a lot about the police, both procedures and relationships, and alongside this are some steamy moments. Emma and her friends and colleagues are very true to life. Some reviewers have grumbled about glitches in the grammar but they miss the point. This is how Emma would think and speak, and I think that makes her character and the narration very convincing. A great holiday read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to the sequel.
A hot, steamy, dark, contemporary Police romance set in Ireland.
Emma has her dream job and dream man. She works hard for promotion but in her new role everything is not as clear cut as her personal values. Blind eyes, heads turned, greed and lust take their toll. The story is a rollarcoaster right to the closing line.
L. A. Powers books are filled with suspense and edge of the seat gripping thrill. If you want something that'll leave you turning the pages and hungry for more, you should definitely check out "Deep", you won't regret it!
What a wonderful debut novel. It was full of romance, lots of sex and crime! Emma falls in love and falls pregnant even quicker with her new partner, she's only just become a qualified copper. She loves the thrill the job offers. Her doting boyfriend is just what every girl wants in a man, but I feel so sorry for him, Emma does not deserve him. However, even after having a baby Emma is very career driven, and sets a good example for women, she works very hard. There's a scandal amongst the force and Emma starts an affair with her boss which lasts forever! Life gets very complicated and it ends with a bang! Look forward to the next book from this author. A great short story packed with action, dilemmas and fun!

Really enjoyed this book!! A first for me, it was kind of like a police romance/suspense book. Plenty of twists and turns that kept me reading chapter after chapter. Definitely feel like there could be a book 2, I would love to read more about the characters!! A nice mix between the crime that's involved with police work and the real lives of the officers.
This was an engrossing and faced paced read. It’s not exactly a police story because there is no big case being worked. It’s not exactly a romance because while there is lots of spice, it isn’t between a loving couple. The main characters are selfish liars and I found myself hoping bad karmic endings for both of them. I enjoyed the story even though I hated the characters and their self-absorbed actions. All in all, this book has good bones but has a few areas that need polish. The dialogue is hard to follow because of the formatting and there were grammar and spelling issues. Thank you to the author for gifting me your debut novel in exchange for an honest review.
Deep is the debut police romance novel by L.A. Power.
This is one of the first romance novels that I have read so deciding on a score was tricky. The book is very fast paced and Power does a great job keeping the pace up as we follow Emma's journey to becoming a police officer and all three characters in the central love triangle of Emma, Matthew and Ryan are flawed and interesting.
I would say that the thriller and corruption parts of the novel are predictable and you can see it coming early on. However the ending of the novel does take a slightly different direction as to the consequences of the corruption for the main characters.
After reading "Deep," written by L.A. Power, I feel rather exposed, satisfied and yet now anticipating the release of book two. As a crime, mystery, thriller fanatic, my cravings were surely met once I was formally introduced to, and rode along the turbulent roller coaster ride along with the main characters evolving around Emma, Mathew and Ryan. The author certainly straps you in for major twists, turns and excitement through vices of corruption, infidelity, addiction, romance and so much more with a touch of Irish slang. It was a brief slow start for me but I thoroughly enjoyed the heart stopping events all the way through to the end. Great debut novel.
I was asked by the author to read and review this book.
I’m just going to be straight up honest: I did NOT like this book. The style in which it was written and the grammar errors really put me off right from the beginning.
There was a lot of telling, not showing. I didn’t connect with any of the characters; they all felt flat and boring. I didn’t give it a one star because some of the police raids were exciting to read, but that was about it. I really did not enjoy reading this.
I wanted so much more out of this book: more description, more character development.
This book was non stop filled with action and drama and I loved it! Emma works at a police station shortly after starting a life with her boyfriend Matthew. Emma is obsessed with moving on up in her job and will do anything in her power to make sure she does. She finds herself reaching to be an investigator in the drug unit. Once she secured that position she finds herself having an affair with her boss. From there on out she becomes deeply invested in a somewhat double life in which she loves the family she has but is also caught up in her bosses schemes and life. This was such a page turner for me I love how L.A. Power had the ability to make me feel so many emotions while reading this book! I do think Emma and Ryan are both bad people and deserve one another but at the same time I could not stop wanting to read about them! I also think then Emma allowed her worst fear to happen to herself. She was so focused about moving up and being successful and in her mind this meant sacrificing being a mother and good wife. That when she became involved with Ryan her whole world became about hiding her affair from her husband. Therefore this ultimately does not help her to be well liked at her job or in any position to be moved up. Her downfall is trying to lead too separate lives and becoming to deeply invested with that.
Deep was my first police romance novel book. It was a really interested read.
Emma's dream is to become a police officer, and to fall in love. Both her dreams will come true. The police world is a dangerous one as she seeks corruptions, drugs dealers. And she will become closer to one of her coworker, a bit to close. She will go way to deep.
This is the debut novel of L.A. Power. I wasn't dissapointed.
