A shallow and seriously dated book.

The most interesting chapter was chapter six Lessons from failure, incidentally the only one solidly based on Fidler´s experience developing a 1980s "consumer online service". The rest of the chapters deal with some very simple ideas on media convergence and plurality, overblown into rather pompous terms like "mediamorphosis" or "technomyopia", some brief and overly simplistic surveys on the history of media, say from 1950 on, and some futuristic projections, made in 2007, for 2010 based on ideas culled from Star Trek, The Jetsons, Alan Kay´s Dynabook and some very optimistic Virtual Reality sale pitches from that era.

Въпреки че е писана в средата на 90-те, тази книга продължава да бъде актуална. Беше ми интересно да видя как са си представяли развитието на медиите експертите преди 20 години. Изглежда, че Фидлър е надценил развитието на технологиите и волята на правителства, компании и хора да приемат масово новите възможности. Но в принципите, по които днес се осъществява комуникацията, прогнозите му не са чак толкова далече от днешната реалност. Криването на медийните канали, цифровизацията, възможният разцвет на пресата в дигитална среда, както и моделът на възникване и възприемане на нови технологии, който авторът очертава, заслужават внимание и сериозно обмисляне. Тази книга трябва да бъде ако не прочетена, то поне прегледана не само от хората, занимаващи се с медии.
