She needs a romance coach. He needs a last-minute date for a wedding. They agree to help each other as long as they don't break their number one rule. No falling in love. That's not a problem...until their hearts decide some rules are made to be broken.
Sparks fly hotter than a sparkler in this best friend's older brother forbidden romance and I'm here for it. Beckett and Camdyn are equally intriguing characters who enter a mutually beneficial relationship for a wedding and it's hot, hot hot. The swoon and laughs abound with this little treasure. I'm a rule follower and I love when a story lists out rules that just can't help but be broken. Even I would be all for breaking these inconveniences.
True to form, Anderson introduces the characters in the most adorably awkward meet cute that had me cringing and blushing, but that's quickly remedied with butterflies, stolen kisses, and sizzling chemistry. I loved every minute of this one!
This novella was amazing! I laughed so many times at Camdyn and Beckett. These two were perfect for each other. But…their relationship was fake because of Camdyn’s best friend/Beckett’s sister Nikki. So they made up a bunch of rules to help keep their relationship more in the friend zone as they went to Beckett’s bosses daughter’s wedding. You can guess how well their rules worked. But there was plenty of great comedy and swoony kisses. I loved this novella!
I read this initially in a box set and thought it was adorable. I found it again when I was cruising KU and I am so glad I read it again. Short and sweet best friend brother. One of my favorite tropes!
Cute, sweet and very romantic. Beckett & Camdyn made such a great couple. They had the chemistry and history to make their story, not only adorable but also believable.
I ADORED it. Like, all heart eyes 😍 and smiles 😊 here. There is chemistry and sizzle and attraction. Camdyn and Beckett are fun characters with enough of a history that their immediate attraction is believable. They are perfect for each other! The kissing was yummy and I ended it wanting more, more, more. This is one I will probably go back and read again for a quick fix.
2 stars= it’s okay. The storyline was cute and the characters were likable.
They fell in love very, very fast. On the first day of being together as a fake couple, she tried to have a DTR. I wanted her to just enjoy the ride and see where it goes. Be charming and flirty and cool. What guy who’s already attracted to her could withstand that? Needing to define the relationship so soon just smacks of insecurity.
Some of the behaviors just didn’t jive with me.
One of the first scenes felt odd to me. If I was saved from falling on my face, my FIRST reaction would be to LOOK UP and see who the heck just caught me. But she’s still fiddling with her shoe while talking to the mystery man, and then she doesn’t even act surprised that she KNOWS him and that he doesn’t even live here. She’s unfazed. It was just strange.
The biggest reason for the 2 stars is that the writing felt very juvenile to me.
I did appreciate the “I don’t do hookups” mentality. The characters in the book had high standards/values, which I thought was a redeeming factor.
Content:
Language- no swearing or taking the Lord’s name in vain
Sex- I would consider this clean. No sex. Some slight references to sex. Some kissing. A catty (and as the reader I considered it very silly) conversation between the MC and a “mean girl” about boob jobs. And a description of how huge the mean girl’s boobs were. The MC was very well endowed, too, which was the topic of discussion.
I really really wish this book was longer, I want more!! The trope: forbidden/bffs older brother, always a good one. The fake relationship: not so fake. The kisses: swooooooony. Woo! And of course the rules: made to be broken. 😝 what’s not to love?!
If you have a few hours to spare, settle in a give this book a read, it was so much fun!!
Having read sixteen stories by Cindy Roland Anderson it is no surprise that, once again, I have elected to award five stars for her efforts. This time it is for a short story. In my opinion, writing short stories requires a much different skill set than do Novellas and Novels and she has proven she has those unique skills. Nevertheless, I found one sentence where she made an error not uncommon to many highly skilled authors. That sentence is: “That pit in her stomach was back and it wasn’t just because she was starving.” Merriam-Webster defines the “Pit of a person’s stomach” as being “the part of a person’s stomach where strong feelings of nervousness, excitement, etc., can be felt.” Ergo: Since the “pit of the stomach” is a location within the body, it cannot come and go. It is always present. This error is common to many five-star authors, so Ms. Anderson is in good company and still earns a five-star award.
A delightful read, I loved the chemistry between Camdyn and Beckett. They fell in loved very quickly, but is a novella and they have a history! A well written clean story I recommend to all romance lovers
I love Breaking All the Rules. Camdyn and Beckett are such an intriguing couple. Lot's of tropes - best friend's brother, fake relationship and swoony kisses are all found in this well written, entertaining, clean romantic comedy. I just read straight through because I could not put it down.
Loved it! I have really enjoyed the whole Fake Relationship trope lately, and thought it was handled well in this one. Characters were likable and fun, had good flirty vibes and I liked that they had known each other a long time so the romance felt believable. Really a fun read!
A very fun read. I throughly enjoyed it and the sassy characters. Delightful in every way possible. Does the "mean girl" club ever out grow themselves? A great job on this story!
That was such a fun story! I love the best friend and older brother trope. Breaking the Rules was short and sweet, and left me with a happy smile. I loved all the sizzling kisses while still keeping it clean.
Super short story and quick read! I loved how sweet Beckett was with Camdyn, who was very down after being cheated on. David definitely got what he deserved!
I tend to enjoy the fake relationship to more trope so it was not a surprise that I enjoyed this quick read. We learn right from the start that these two characters have a history, so while their feelings appear to grow quickly from the the time they entered in to the fake relationship and then them wanting it to be real, it felt believable knowing they had a history. I read this in one sitting because I just loved these characters.
This was a great short story. Camden had been ditched by her boyfriend who had left her doubting she knew anything about romance. She is an author who according to her agent needs to add some romance to her next preteen book in the series so she planned to hire a romance coach. Becker is her best friends brother and she has had a crush on him since she was a teenager. After running into him and missing her appointment with the romance coach he proposes she attend a wedding with him as his fake girlfriend and let him be her coach. What happens when her ex boyfriend shows up to the same wedding?
