LARGE PRINT EDITION Kat’s boss has vanished. The police suspect her. But they’ll never find him where he’s gone! Interior designer Kat is broke and desperately needs this commission restoring the Edwardian mansion of Fownhope Priors, but her employer Scott’s wife and mother-in-law are a nightmare. Yet when they are killed in suspicious circumstances, and she is the last person to see him, she can’t help but be drawn in to the family’s feuds. Where has Scott Hawkesmoor vanished to? Is it back to Yorkshire where his wife and mother-in-law died? Or is it somewhere far stranger? And how can she ever explain it to anyone – especially the police – let alone how she knows?
Enlisting the help of Scott’s solicitor and friend, Drew, seems like a good idea, but is complicated by finding herself confusingly attracted to him. Could he be the fresh start she needs in a relationship? Then her own family’s dark secret rears its ugly head and an over-eager detective jumps to the wrong conclusions. Can Kat convince Drew and the police that she’s not a murderess? Why won’t Drew trust her, and what is his own strange past that he’s hiding?
Yet above all, once she discovers where Scott is trapped, can she find a way to send him a message that will show him the way back home, and can he go through the right gateway? Or will he end up somewhen else altogether? And will the experience of the portal reveal whether Scott or Drew is the man she’s been looking for?
Do you love mysteries with a paranormal twist by authors like Irina Shapiro, Jane Ann Krentz, Phil Rickman or James Oswald? Or maybe a dash of romance with your mystery as with Barbara Erskine, Lucinda Riley, and Karen Swan; or the magical elements of Diana Gabaldon’s Lord John Grey novels? Then this is a book for you! Grab your copy of A Gate to Somewhen Else and find out just when Scott vanished to!
This was a rather convoluted story with multiple plot lines but, they all came together at the end. It was a satisfying and quite enjoyable read encompassing suspicious deaths, unexplainable disappearances, characters with something to hide, a portal into the past plus, a bit of a romance thrown in for good measure. This was an enjoyable, fast moving thriller with an overarching supernatural backdrop. I really enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed reading this unusual time-swap book. Good main characters in Kat and Ross. However, confused by Drew and his back-story. Maybe a bit over the top? But a good read if you can ignore the increasingly numerous typos and errors as the book went on. I'd read more by this author.
This had an interesting plot and I liked some of the twists and the time travel but the ending was really unsatisfactory. It also had characters changing personality to fit the plot which never works. I like character development but characters should not change for no reason. I also loathe love triangles especially ones like this. I will not seek further books by this author
Not a great read. But OK to pass the time. Plot a little testing, particularly Kat's backstory, and definitely ran out of steam as last couple of chapters just rushed to a distinctly flat and predictable ending.
When a man we're meant to be feeling sorry for tells a complete and total stranger that his wife was "the village bicycle" before they got married I cannot remove that shit from my reading list fast enough LOL
Read in one fell swoop when I should have been doing other things. I shall regard elderly houses in a new light. It is also good to have a very light touch with romance.
A well written and gripping story the strong mystical elements hold together convincingly the characters are engaging and I shall be looking for more by this author
This book started really well but soon became rather tedious. I don’t normally read time slip books but I thought I would give it a try because the synopsis sounded interesting, but it was not for me.
