Marcus lives a middle-class life in a small town in Arizona in the 1960s. Unfortunately, middle class does not always equate to normal. Certainly not if you’re a nerd coping with uninvited visions. Certainly not if your family is self-destructive. Certainly not if a death cat haunts your dreams.
Being outside the norm just makes growing up harder … a lot harder. Teachers and administrators fear you. Bullies target you. Girls ignore you. Friends suffer alongside you. Still, gaffs notwithstanding, Marcus manages to navigate the ups and downs at home and school.
But, as tragedies mount and visions become darker, friends fear that Marcus will commit suicide. Maybe, but he won’t be the first.
The last letter from his first love brings joy buried in sorrow.
