In DANIEL W. KELLY s HORNY DEVILS closet monsters have come out once again to play ... and slay. Five short stories of sex and scares are a frightfest of foreplay leading to the main manhunt the erotic horror novella SCREAM QUEEN. Settle in for a long, dark night with some incredibly strange bedfellows. Celebrating the horror genre and giving it a sexed up twist, Kelly offers a collection of gothrotica that will have you screaming for more...as you walk that fine line between pleasure and paranoia with these HORNY DEVILS. Horny Devils Sadomasochistic young lovers run away from home, so they can be together forever, even after death do them part. Tendencies A mad scientist s hypocritical experiments to cure homosexuality turn his secret underground lab into a den of iniquity. Monstrosity When a petty thief targets the wrong man, he finds himself strapped facedown and paying big time for his small crime. Scream Queen In this hot, sexy and comic homage to iconic horror movies, it s Halloween night, and a group of horny hunks heads to a creepy neighbor s butch costume party, ignorant to the number one rule of the slasher you have sex, you die!
Prior to reading Horny Devils, I had never read erotica (unless you count an old, battered copy of Wifey, when I was in junior high). Horny Devils was a decidedly fine introduction to reading erotica. The collection is consistently strong and entertaining, with enough variation to please almost any reader. Kelly has a penchant for selecting details that transport you to the moment he is describing: sometimes smells, sometimes sound, sometimes lighting. Kelly chooses with prowess the details that enliven the moment he describes.
The collection handles horror and erotica with enthusiasm and style, and even mixes in humor and irony. Some stories have torture, some BDSM, and there’s even death by...I won’t go there in Scream Queen, the final story, which was a laugh-out-loud departure from the other, more serious stories. Scream Queen is also told in a voice unlike the others that fits the campy, 80’s-slasher-homage of the story. I have to admit that Scream Queen was my favorite, and it closed a strong collection of stories.
Such a great surprise! I am a big fan of Daniel's blog (boysbearsandscares.com) and this proved to be just as entertaining. There are several stories included in this collection, but the stand-out by far was SCREAM, QUEEN. A very inventive hockey-themed horror story that includes "cameos" from several horror movie legends.
