I liked that this book could be a jumping point for discussion even if you hadn't read the stories in that we could interpret the paintings and still be able to talk about images. Many of the images look similar. I might have liked to see other artists' interpretation as opposed to just one painter.

Beautiful, provocative religious (Christian) art with thoughtful essays. Enjoyed this very much.

Love Janet McKenzies art and this is a great little compilation. Have been craving some more weighty feminist reflections and this gave me some great pondering material. Particularly enjoyed Mary E Haddad's reflections on the 'Annunciation'. Am sure I will come back to this book for reference and inspiration at different times and seasons. Not something you read from start to finish in one setting. A reading per day/week could be a good little quiet time inspiration.

Good time to read/look at this. I saw lots of Madonna and Child paintings in DC. It was kind of on my mind.
And I like the ones of Saints too as well as the stories. But one of my favorite books as a kid was "Sixty Saints for Girls".
