*BFCG may (Read the review to see) recommend this book by this author. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author.
This one was actually kind of spooky! It was set in a western ghost-ish town, and there are horses, both ghost and real. A tween/early teen horse lover would really enjoy this, but unfortunately I am not, so while it was a fun read for me, it wasn't my absolute favorite book.
Summary: McKenzie and her friend Bailey are at a horse camp. The owner’s prize racehorse Diamond Girl goes missing and it appears she has been stolen. McKenzie and Bailey take it upon themselves to solve the mystery and recover Diamond Girl.
My thoughts: I love how much faith content there is in this book. McKenzie and her friends are always praying, reading the Bible, and trying to do things how God would want them to. The author did an amazing job incorporating their faith into the story. It really felt like how a 13-year old would act and think, not some add on to make her book “Christian”. Other than the fact that a 13-year-old and 9-year-old solve a mystery that the police can’t, the book is actually pretty realistic. (Although that kind of plot is pretty standard for children’s fiction). The story was interesting too, and it even left me guessing a bit how the author was going to end it(ie: who was the culprit). Also, for people who aren’t interested in reading a lot, it was a super quick read – less than 100 pages. Unfortunately, McKenzie and Bailey aren’t always the best role models. They sneak out one night – McKenzie knows it’s wrong but doesn’t want to bug Emma (her riding instructor who is taking care of them right now), so she and Bailey just take a horse and leave. Also, the ending is a little abrupt. The girls solve the horse thief mystery, God works out everything perfectly, and then it’s the end. It wasn’t bad, it just could have been better. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I’m excited to read more of this series.

Mini-review: I enjoyed this. Bailey's insecurities got on my nerves a tiny bit (oops). But overall the mystery was good. Reminded me a bit of Secret of Shadow Ranch a little bit.

Last review about this series, I promise! In the third book of this series, McKenzie and Bailey have to help save the Sunshine Stables horse ranch from a horse thief. Personally the most boring book in the series. I really would not recommend this book to any 13+ aged girls in my school, class, or in general. There was not a lot of mystery and action for me to be interested and glued to my seat about this book. The author did do a good job on keeping the spotlight on McKenzie but also interacting with different parts about all the other girls in the book. I had a great time writing these reviews because it shows me what I might need to work on as a writer. Hasta La-vista!!!!
