Texas Promise #4

Tomorrow's Steadfast Prayer

Rate this book
The one thing she can't do is fall in love... at least not if she wants to save her sister. Alejandra Loyola knows she’s going to die. If having information about her uncle and cousin’s illegal cattle rustling operation isn’t enough to get her killed, then snitching on them to the law will surely mean her death—and she’s snitched more than once. The only question is, will she be able to see her younger sister provided for before she dies? When successful Austin lawyer Harrison Rutherford is called back to his home town of Twin Rivers, Texas, after his father falls ill, he finds himself inundated with the burdens of running a large shipping business. The one surprise waiting for him is Alejandra Loyola. The maid who works for him is quiet and sweet. Now if only she trusted him enough to tell him what leaves shadows under her eyes and a haunted look on her face… But the longer Harrison stays in Twin Rivers, the more something seems amiss. Rustlers have been wreaking havoc on local ranchers for over a year, and Harrison is starting to wonder if the secrets Alejandra is carrying have more to do with his father and the rustlers than he wants to admit. As the rustling ring become more dangerous, will Alejandra trust Harrison enough to tell him what she knows? Or will the rustlers prove powerful enough to destroy not just the ranches surrounding Twin Rivers, but any hope for a future between them? From jagged mountains and green river valleys, to cattle ranches and vivid sunsets, Tomorrow’s Steadfast Prayer offers a powerful story about love, faith, and doing the right no matter the cost.

Naomi Rawlings is the author of historical Christian novels, including the Amazon bestselling Eagle Harbor Series. While she'd love to claim she spends her days huddled in front of her computer vigorously typing, in reality, she spends her time homeschooling, cleaning, picking up, and pretending like her house isn't in a constant state of chaos. She lives with her husband and three children in Michigan's rugged Upper Peninsula, along the southern shore of Lake Superior where they get 200 inches of snow every year, and where people still grow their own vegetables and cut down their own firewood--just like in the historical novels she writes.

Tomorrow’s Steadfast Prayer is a great addition to the Texas Promise series. In this series, there has been an ongoing cattle rustling threat. And although that continues in this novel, I believe that readers could probably still hop into this story and enjoy it even if they haven’t read the other books.

I really liked both Alejandra and Harrison. Alejandra was in such a desperate situation and felt terrible for the things her uncle and cousin were forcing her to do. It was hard to see this character be treated so badly by her cousin and a couple of the other men at the fort. She did what she could to try to pass on information, hoping that the law would catch them in the act, all the while hoping that she would someday be able to get her sister away from their uncle.

Harrison was a great character. He had such a kind and honest heart. I loved the way he tried to help Alejandra in so many ways. He was a good man, which was obvious in his dealings with Alejandra, the Fort, and his friends. It was sweet to see his feelings grow into love for Alejandra. These two had a lot to endure and their path to happily ever after was not without danger. I am looking forward to reading the final book in the series.

This story is everything I like in a western-type novel of this era. Cowboys and lawmen, outlaws, a damsel in distress that smartly holds her own, secrets and cattle rustling and a bustling border fort. The writing is well done and the plot it perfectly paced. I loved the slow building romance and the resolution of the illegal activities + secrets and relationship... no 3rd act breakup or misunderstandings!

Great themes of loyalty, justice, trust, and forgiveness are covered. I want to go back and read the stories of the whole friend group, but I'm especially interested in the next romance that's nicely set up in this story.

Tomorrow’s Steadfast Prayer by Naomi Rawlings is another excellent read! I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with this series, and book four may be one of my favorites yet. What I really loved about this story is the constant state of stress and suspense I found myself in. All I wanted was for Alejandra to talk to Harrison or Daniel or Cain or anyone and craft a master plan to get the bad guys, but she’s trapped. She cannot speak to anyone or it could mean the life of someone she cares for deeply. Man, was I stressed the whole read. It was fantastic! As with her previous books, Rawlings characters are spectacular. I love that we get a good glimpse into Cain and Anna Mae’s story (I so cannot wait for book five!), and I enjoyed getting to catch up with previous characters as well. As far as the hero and heroine go, I expected them to be awesome and Rawlings delivered. Harrison and Alejandra are great individually, and so darn cute together. I felt that the chemistry between the two is strong the entire story, and I wanted them to declare their love for each other long before they did, but as it is written is perfect. My heart really went out to Alejandra and her struggle to overcome what she considers her horrible sins. I think she is one of the strongest heroines I have ever read, but she is blinded to her strength. She sees it as a weakness until it’s pointed out to her just how amazing she truly is. And Harrison is rad. He is super smart and capable, but it’s his heart that really stands out. Harrison is a really good guy and always wants what is right and just. He is the hero to Alejandra’s heroine. Together they balance each other out so perfectly. I also loved the way Rawlings blends the Bible into the every day lives of her characters. It never feels forced. These characters genuinely love Jesus and it shows in their daily lives. I wish real life could be more Rawlings’s novels.

Tomorrow’s Steadfast Prayer is another wonderful and delightful story by Naomi Rawlings that I highly recommend. If you are a fan of Christian Western Romances that are well-written and highly engaging then I recommend purchasing a copy of this book ASAP. You won’t be disappointed you did!

***Recommendation*** Tomorrow’s Steadfast Prayer can easily be read as a standalone novel; however, I personally feel that to get the best reading experience you should read Tomorrow’s First Light first.

I received a copy of this novel in eBook form from the author, Naomi Rawlings, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I don't think I've read this author before I started the Texas Promise series, but I love how her stories draw you in from the very beginning. I find myself thinking about the characters during my time away from reading. I've been reading over the past few weeks while my husband has been recovering from a serious operation. I read until I'm sleepy and leave the rest in God's hands. I so appreciate the Biblical truths she weaves into her stories. I look forward to finishing this series and starting another. Gail

She really wants her sister to be safe — and not marry an old man
Her cousin wants her spy on her boss — or she’ll never see her sister again. The twist and turns in this book are many. Which makes a good story — and God’s grace throughout is glorious to see!!!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own.

Naomi Rawlings’ novels deal with more than just romance. They deal with all the friends and their families. That’s one of the things that I love about her novels. It’s not just the main character's romance story, it’s about everyone. So that just allows you to see the character’s journey after their story is finished. I love it!

Harrison. I love his character. His father is not a stellar role model, and still Harrison is such a kind and giving person. He didn’t like the way his father ran things, so when he finally got control of his fathers fort, he ran things his way. The honest way. Even when he stood to ‘lose’ money. I say lose only because in reality, the fort was still going to make money, but they weren’t going to be taking advantage of people anymore.

Alejandra. Her character had the instinct to do the right thing. No matter what came her way. She’d do anything to protect her sister as well. No matter what happened to her.

Harrison and Alejandra’s characters were so alike. They wanted to do the right thing even when it would be hard for them at times. This novel teaches that no matter what, it is always better to do the right thing. The Bible verse in this story that repeated itself is as follows: “But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled,”‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭14 ‭ESV‬‬. (Only difference is that it’s in ESV, and I believe it’s in KJV in the book.) Rawlings used this verse as a base for Harrison and Alejandra’s story.

Side Characters:

Sam. Goodness. I loved the scenes with Sam. Others may not agree, but in his scenes, you get to see all the levels their friendship has taken and is taking. They were very moving scenes, despite the fact that I ‘hated’ him when he was arguing with Daniel.

Also seeing how Martin and Sam’s relationship had changed made me so happy. Sam deserved to have children, and Martin deserved to have a pa who wanted and loved him. But I was not prepared to hear the words “Pa” or “Son” being used by Martin and Sam. I cannot express how happy I am to have that in this novel.

I love the side stories with Daniel and Cain’s problems/situations.

Daniel. Oh my goodness. Daniel is my favorite character from this series. I don’t know why, but there is just something about him that I just can’t help but love. We’ve seen throughout this series that he never got a break with the rustlers, except for the information that his anonymous informant would give him. To top that off in this novel, other crimes start happening in Twin Rivers. Crimes that made him do difficult things as a sheriff. Difficult things as a friend. Trust me, Daniel’s story in this novel makes this book even more interesting!

Cain. Aside from Daniel, he is my favorite character. He is just so funny. His little remarks like when he uses “darlin.’” It’s a serious scenario, and he makes his remarks that you just can’t help but laugh with him. His straightforwardness probably makes him the perfect match for Anna Mae.

Spoiler…we get to see a bit of Cain and Anna Mae’s ‘relationship’ take off. The snippets in this novel were the best. I can’t wait for their book to be released.

Rating: Clean Read
Language/Profanity: None
Sex/Nudity: We hear a man forced a woman to his bed. Kisses.
Violence/Gore: Girl gets verbally abused. Picked on really. We hear a woman got slapped and yelled at. Men get shot. A man is found dead. Men die by getting shot. Nothing graphic and detailed.
Drinking/Drugs/Smoking: Other side characters are drinking. Not pointed in a positive light. Also used for medicinal purposes.

When Harrison's father suffers a stroke, he hurries back to Twin Rivers to take care of him and the business - and to escape the fallout of the case he just lost. But in Twin Rivers, he finds that all is not right. A band of rustlers is terrorising the local ranches, there's been a rash of crime in the area, and Alejandra, the girl he tried years ago to help escape, is still there - and keeping secrets. Can Harrison and his friends identify and catch the rustlers, or will they continue to be too wily? And when Harrison finds himself falling for Alejandra, a woman of secrets and who insists that she can't stay even to be with him, is there any hope of a happy ending?

An interesting mix of mystery and romance, using several different points of view (which those who've read other books in the series will appreciate, as they show a bit more of the lives of other characters in the series - but which still make sense as a complete standalone story). I loved Alejandra's wholehearted devotion to her sister, even if I didn't always appreciate the way she went about it - and I still more loved Harrison's efforts to look after Alejandra, even though he spent so much time in the dark about what was going on in her life. I also appreciated the inspirational message and the way that the friend group encouraged each other (well, mostly). A good read and I look forward to seeing how Cain's future pans out.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

He is so kind, she can't help but fall in love with him. But at the same time her cousin is forcing her to read his personal papers and try to dig up dirt on him that can be used against him. After some searching, she begins to realize, you can't dig up dirt on someone who is clean, and she begins to feel guilty about snooping on a man who has only shown her kindness.
Will she be able to confess to him her wrong doings and help him catch a thief, a killer, and a ring of cattle rustlers that has plagued both sides of the Rio Grande?
A sweet western/romance.

Full of adventure, danger and hope. Naomi Rawlings newest book in the Texas Promise series, Tomorrow's Steadfast Prayer is a wonderful read! Great character development and a good story plot. Alejandra and Harrison's story is about learning to do the right thing, trusting in others and relying on God.

Taking place on the Texas/Mexican border at Twin Rivers where there is cattle rustling, murder and lawlessness and Texas Rangers. Harrison comes to Fort Ashton when he is notified that is father is dying. As he takes over the trading post he faces many challenges in making changes and discoveries in the business and personal interests. He is surprised to find Alejandra is still working there. But as he is trying to help make her life better, he begins to have feelings for her. Alejandra is tired of the life she is enduring but caught in the spying, trying to keep herself and her sister safe.

Exciting read, I can't wait for the next book in the series. And if you want to see how Harrison and his friend met, check out Harrison's Resolve.

I received this book from the author and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Harrison returns to the fort owned by his father after vowing to have nothing to do with his father's business. However, after receiving news that his father is ill, and some other circumstances taking place in his life, Harrison concedes that maybe this is the next step needed to clear up some mysteries and crimes.

Harrison never expected love to take place as he reunited with his childhood friends and falls head over heels in a whole pile of illegal activities that involve a beautiful maid working at his father's fort.

Join our friends and get ready to hold your breathe, gasp in dismay, and maybe even find yourself saying a prayer or two for our friends, as you become immersed in their adventures and wonder if they will all make it through unscathed and alive.

If you haven't read HARRISON'S RESOLVE, please go back and read it to better understand what life handed to Harrison and his friends to forge the bond between them and how they became the people they are.

You will also want to read the EAGLE HARBOR series where it all started. You will fall in love with a whold new set of friends and family.

This is a good for a reader who enjoys a faith filled story that has good character and story development set in the old west with a clean romance and mystery. I love when a story can create a sense of community and connectivity with the characters throughout each book in the series. I think this could be read as a stand alone okay with minor spoilers. Probably best enjoyed by order. I felt the story had a nice hook from the beginning and suspense to keep the reader turning pages. I enjoyed some of the funny, witty and more lighthearted moments. The faith element is woven in conversational or a part of just who the person is. There are scripture verses mentions while in conversation. I would say it's not to moralize or preach a message. I enjoyed getting a taste for the next book in the series and am interested in reading their path to a HEA. A nice world this author has created with the town and it's people and their individual stories and path to love.

Tomorrow’s Steadfast Prayer by Naomi Rawlings
Texas Promise Series Book Four
Harrison Rutherford had gotten away from Twin Falls to become his own man…away from his father. As a lawyer, he was working his way into society. When Harrison received a note that his father was ill, he knew he’d have to return to Fort Ashton and take over…if his dad hadn’t recovered yet. He hadn’t.
Alejandra Loyola was living a double life, and she hated it. She was forced to work at Fort Ashton to spy on the owner and whatever else her cousin Raul wanted from her. She would do almost anything until she got her sister back. The problem was Harrison was a nice guy, unlike his father. And it was getting harder to keep her secrets.
Love this series. Each story has been so entertaining and enjoyable. Looking forward to Cain and Anna Mae’s story in the last book.

The great dilemma…doing right when it may cost you everything!

First, I LOVE Author Rawlings because her books are always clean and so inspirational. I’m not disappointed with Tomorrow’s Steadfast Prayer.

Alejandra is a fighter. Harrison is a true hero. This book (and series) is a MUST READ!!! Trust me, you will NOT be able to put it down.

It’s more than a love story. It’s family, faith, adventure, and the greatest test of all..doing the right thing even if it will cost you everything.

Although this book is a part of a series…I feel like you can read it as a standalone as well. I love that! Although I definitely recommend reading it as complete series. I can’t wait to read the next one!

I have loved all the books by Naomi Rawlings especially in the Texas promise series . What I especially liked about this one was the resemblance to the story of Esther in the Bible . Sometimes God puts us in difficult places and situations in our lives where we cannot understand why but He has put us there for a purpose and if we trust Him all things work together for good … Alejandra and Harrison’s story is one set with trials and in difficult circumstances , the rustlers and danger are all around . We can’t control what happens to us in life but with Gods help ,with faith and trust we are promised that His ways and His timings are best . Looking forward to next book to see what happens next .

All in God's Timing

Fear and intimidation can make you do things that you never thought you would do, especially when the men making you do bad things have your younger sister and won't let you see her. They plan a horrible life for both of you. If only you could get your sister and disappear, far from all you fear.
Then there's a well respected lawyer who's had a devastating loss, one that has ended not only his career, but turned the woman he thought he was going to marry away from him. Now his father is ill and he flees his circumstances and goes to his father's side. He must take over his father's business but something isn't right.
This is a wonderful book and it will capture your interest until the end. Enjoy!

Another Naomi Rawlings Winner. When you look forward to a book for months, closing the final chapter feels like your family and friends have deserted you. Harrison is a layer so there will be crime. The author is Naomi Rawlings.so there is love from God, from family and friends, and complicated romantic love. Harrison must return to his home town, Twin Rivers, where he spent much of his Youth. He dreads every trip. His closest friends are there but so is his father and his father’s business. What happens while in Twin Rivers will keep you turning the pages. One of the truths of a Naomi Rawlings book is that the reader will rarely guess Al, the twists and turns. Enjoy!

Fourth in the Texas Promise series, author Naomi Rawlings once again takes us west with all that entails. Horse, dust, creaking saddle leather, good guys, and of course bad guys. She makes the reader see, smell, and hear it all. Strong, well developed characters make this book one that will keep you turning the pages.

Tomorrow’s Steadfast Prayer has a faith theme, as do all of Rawlings books and I really enjoy the way she writes this. It’s just part of their lives; not preachy at all. Add in mystery, intrigue, humor, and clean romance and this is a book for everyone.

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

Harrison Rutherford returns to Twin Rivers discouraged when he has to take his father's place running Fort Ashton. What he finds are many unanswered questions, deceit and betrayal. He also finds beautiful Alejandra. As they face danger and secrets, their feelings grow into more than friendship. Harrison's faith is tested and the friendships of 2 decades. As the story unfolds, he realizes that God has plans that he may not understand at the time, but He is still in control. A great story of God's faithfulness. I can't wait to read Cain and Anna Mae's story.

very good

Wow this was a very good book to read. I never wanted to put it down. It is very well written by Naomi Rawlings and very enjoyable to read. Harrison is a lawyer that wanted to prove to his father he could do something with his life. Alejandar is a maid to spy for the cattle rustlers. The rest is all in the book. Yes you will need to read it. So good well worth a second reading.

I think this was my favorite of the Texas Promise stories, so far. Alejandra is a great character and Harrison is a fine match for her. I enjoyed watching their relationship develop and it was clear they spent a lot of time together and shared many great conversations so their romance was believable. I am happy the cattle rustling mystery is solved and all the friends are supporting each other as they navigate their lives with their new wives.

Harrisson cannot get the pretty girl Alejandra out of his head. What is she hiding? How much has she been hurt? Alejandra knows she should be more than slip the notes to the sherif but how can she. Does she have the courage to tell Harrisson that his father award far more evil than he even thought?
This book was starting to repeat for more of the previous books than the others. My favourite book of this series is Daniel and Charlotte.

Harrison, one of the two of five “boys” who would NOT get married before his 30th birthday. Alejandra, whose sister was more important to her than anyone else. Would these two somehow find a way to overcome all the untruths they believed about themselves? And this all takes place as the cattle rustling ring continues. Another good story. Let’s see how the next and final book in this series wraps it all up.

Mom and I adored this entire series! She’s chasing down the prequel now. The imperfect relationships between the childhood friends and the adversities they overcome from their childhood and present are beautifully interwoven with newcomer women’s stories. I love the Texas Rangers, desert and Mexican border details too!

Alejandra Loyola knows she's going to die. If having information about her uncle and cousin's illegal cattle rustling operation isn't enough to get her killed, then snitching on them to the law will and she's snitched more than once. The only question is, will she be able to see her younger sister provided for before she dies.

I loved all of the Texas Promise series but there are some continuity errors with some of the minor characters between books in the series (this one contains some rather glaring ones to do with Martin Owens, which doesn't make sense if you've read the first one). This kind of thing usually bugs me but I forgave it this time, as a standalone this book is well written with an excellent plot.

This book was great, and I feel like she took a slightly different approach which maybe should have been more entertaining, but I didn't like that about this book. It took a while to draw me in because the story felt a little slow moving and redundant. I really enjoyed the story, but this is my least favorite so far in the series.
