As it explores all aspects of this sensual yet practical subject, The Bed brims with wit and fantasy, freshness and elegance. Unusually evocative photographs include beds and bedrooms in apartments, houses, and castles in North America, England, Ireland, France, Sweden, and more. The parctical side of purchasing and caring for mattresses, box springs, and bedclothes are extravagantly described. More than 275 full-color photos.
Although many of the pictures were very impossible for mortals to take ideas from (bed in romantic old castle) or too fantastical to be real (bed in open forest), enough were real, while lovely, to make this book worth owning. The photos are very well done - this is first and foremost a picture book. The various beds are dreamy, sweet, stark, and luscious.
The text is somewhat bland - but this book is not enjoyed for the text but for the gorgeous photos (by Thibault Jeanson) of everything from historical settings to contemporary [read: 1990's] expressions of art, all centred around beds.
