Four orphans and their headmistress set out for Oregon in search of men looking for mail-order brides. Will they find what they are looking for? Or will fate have other plans?
Plucked from a bordello late one night, Lark Brockwood found herself a ward to the Headmistress at the Kensington Orphanage. She hasn’t trusted men ever since, and when Winona, the headmistress, secures passage for her and four other women on a wagon train to Oregon to meet eligible husbands, Lark hopes she isn’t forced to go too. Unfortunately, her hope is dashed, and the only thing she can do is help where she can and stay away from any and all men.
Carter Evans is a doctor headed west to Oregon to start a new life, hoping to put the death of his parents and younger sister behind him. He doesn’t wish to forget them, but he needs to let go of the past. While he’s not looking for love or a wife, he can’t help but notice the feisty blonde, who keeps her distance from everyone—including him.
When an outbreak of measles hits the wagon train, infecting Lark, Carter wastes no time in helping treat her, even though she tells him not to. Can he convince her that she is worthy enough of his love before it’s too late?

Her Oregon Trail Doctor de London James Serie Oregon Trail Brides libro 1
Argumento:
On the wagon train — and fortunately they have a doctor She goes with four young women on their way to Oregon — as mail order brides. And then they get a serious disease that is spreading. One of the women helps him — and he starts to like her, She likes him too BUT refuses to let it go anywhere due to her childhood! THIS IS A REALLY GOOD BOOK - in my opinion the best that London James has written (so far!) I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own
This was the first book in the Oregon Trail Brides Series. This was very good and I couldn’t put it down until I was finished.Winona was the head of an orphanage and was ordered to have the 4 oldest girls move out ASAP because they had all reached the age of 18 and that is when they must leave.Lark had a horrible childhood before she was found and taken to the orphanage. She met the Dr on the Wagon Train and developed an interest in him. Then measles hit the wagon train.
I give the author credit for a sweet story but it would have been better if she had a better grasp of what transpired on wagon trains. Measles were a killer back in those times and it wiped out entire families unless a family member had immunity from having them earlier in life. The story didn't ring true and for me it has to have a ring of truth about it.
I liked the story line, but the poor proofreading had me frustrated. There were so many instances were extra words were inserted and others where words were missing. If you also are bothered by a lack of care by a proofreader, skip this book. There are so many books and so little time.
I did not expect such an intense story! I read this in one sitting as I could not put it down. I can’t even begin to understand the horrors that Lark lived through, but thankfully God led a good man to her. Dr Carter Evans did not have an easy time of it with Lark. She was so very broken. But love prevailed in the end 💞🙏🏼
Another very nice book by London James. How four and head mistress travel on the Oregon trail and find love. This is the first book, where Lark and Carter find what they are looking for. A very enjoyable read.
This book is about wagon trains going east to west. People expecting a better life but finding out it is hard getting there. All the problems that run up against and how difficult the trip across country can be. Enjoy this story.
Good for older teens with life lessons. Not too much about the journey or much historical information. The beginning was a little iffy. Not too many traveled in a buckboard.
I really found this to be a well written story. Lark is a complex, yet sweet, character with a past she wants to forget which makes her story all the better. I like the story line and that God is always there. Great start to this series.
Although I don't view Lark as a sinner in any sense of the word, I don't see her as a victim either. She was a Survivor . I was happy that she was written as such. Very nice read . Carter and Lark were a strong couple .
A good story about a young doctor travelling to Oregon in a wagon train and the headmistress of a orphanage with four women and the work of faith and prayer
This was a tough storyline to read. Being orphans, being sold to someone and starting over on the trail to Oregon, but it is a must read. Winona is the head mistress at an orphanage, when the owner tells her that the four oldest girls, must leave. What should she do, these girls are like her family. When a chance article in the newspaper, mentioned mail order brides are needed in Oregon, she decides to leave her post and take the four girls to Oregon. This story is about one of the girls, Lark. She has had a horrible life and doesn't trust any man, even the doctor, Carter, on the wagon train. Walk beside them on their journey to Oregon and maybe a new and better life for both of them. I was given an ARC of this book by the author for an honest review.
This is a story full of tenacious women and selflessness. The characters really come to life and make you feel like you are part of their journey. I can’t wait to see what’s next in the new series!
I was given a complimentary copy by the author. My opinion is my own.
