To Woo A Troublesome Spy by Cheri Champagne is an action-packed and steamy regency romance. It's somewhat of an enemies-to-lovers journey between Crown spy Christian Samuels (aka Viscount Leeds) and Miss Violet Wilkinson. Christian is evading enemy spies, while Violet is running away from an abusive household. With similar motivations, the pair begin their journey northward together. Or rather, Violet "threatens" Christian at gunpoint to escort her to her grandparents' estate up north.

From their first meeting, they don't see eye to eye, with Christian finding her frustrating and argumentative and Violet viewing him as haughty and condescending. But over the course of their journey, as they outrun and fight off each others' enemies, they start to learn more about one another's likes, dislikes, and childhoods and become more-or-less friends. Friends who are wildly attracted to one another.

Their chemistry is off-the-charts right from the start, and once they finally give into their mutual attraction... Cheri has written some wonderfully steamy scenes. I particularly enjoyed the conversations about Violet's "naughty" book that Christian accidentally found due to their luggage getting swapped. She's so adorable in her naivety, and he's a perfect gentlemen eager to fulfill all her desires.

I enjoyed their banter and their gradual shift into mutual trust, respect, and eventually love. In particular, I loved that from early on in the book, as soon as Christian realizes how grave the threat Violet's family members pose toward her - yes, he feels protective of her and angry on her behalf, which I love - but I especially appreciated that he started training her in self-defense. He taught her how to protect herself in the event that he wasn't with her or couldn't be there to fight off her attackers. And, in several instances, she does use those self-defense tactics against her cousin (who is disgusting and evil and I hate him). But her lessons were a very wonderful and empowering part of this book.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good regency romance with a strong heroine, a protective hero, and plenty of action (including both fight and bedroom scenes!).

Trigger warnings: abuse (familial), violence.

This standalone book, is the companion book to 'The Charming Spy' about Rose's sister Violet and her journey to freedom after escaping the brutal hands of her uncle.

Violet can be called spirited, but I would called her delusional. Her plans to force a gentleman to take her ALL the to Scotland, on this dime, following her command, and all while she holds him hostage are just laughable. She is on a serious power-trip if she doesn't think for a second that she won't be strong-armed, overpowered while she sleeps, or just left on the side of the road once there are no witnesses. This is the 1800's, it's not like guns are easy to use by men let alone woman and most woman aren't widely traveled. She is completely reliant on her hostage, yet refuses to admit the power dynamic.

Lord Christian, her hostage, is a very adapt spy and is only allowing all this because he was in the process of leaving so is now using this as a front for his quick escape. Though both are being pursued, he goes out of his way to protect the hard-headed hoyden. All she does is spew venom about him as though he has done anything wrong.

To me she was just a character I could never get behind. I could never see why Chris like her when all she did was nag and act as if she Lord over him. I was dissapointed that after years of abuse and feeling powerless, the first thing she does is make others unjustly feel how she felt.

I give this book 3,5 stars.

I liked this book and I could definitely feel that the author has improved on her writing.

This romance is between Violet Wilkinson, the sister to Rose Wilkinson (the heroine from the previous story), and Christian Samuels (The viscount Leeds) the spy who was revealed in the previous book.

Violet tries to threaten Christian to help her flee her horrible family without knowing that Christian also is on the run from the villains. He decides to help her because he is very intrigued with this strong woman who takes her fate in her own hands and doesn’t just stand back and let her family abuse her.
They fall in love on the run but there are forces and circumstances keeping them from each other. Will they ever be safe from the villains and their own feelings?

I liked both main characters and their romance. They were both very strong willed and stubborn people but they worked well together and trusted each other’s feelings and opinions.

The plot in the overall series comes closer to a conclusion and this book opens up to the next story plot in the next book very well.

The plot in this series is very well thought out and the plot twists are great so I can definitely recommend this book. But I recommend reading them in order if you want to follow the overall plot.

Violet's Escape Plan . . .

This is an interesting story line, a bit different than others I have read. The story is action-packed and intriguing. Miss Violet Wilkinson has endured all of the abuse she can stand from her family. Her desperate plan for escape is to steal a pistol from her cousin and force a neighbor to escort her to Scotland.

Christian Samuels, the Viscount Leeds, wants some quiet time at his estate as he decodes documents and gets a break from the action of being a spy. Having a woman break in at gunpoint and make her demands, he goes along out of curiosity. They have a rough beginning, but once they have to work together to deal with those who come after them, they develop a new respect for each other. Both of them are on the run, but they join for a common defense and get to know each other better.

Watching the two of them go through the stages of irritation, banter, trust, and love was very satisfying. Christian’s protective nature kicked in, and he taught her some self-defense moves that would help her later. Where would they go from here, however? Is there a HEA for them? Or will he return to his home and allow her to make her way to her new life alone?

What a great sequel to the stories surrounding the spies. Even though you can read the story on its own, I recommend that you read part 2 as well because this is the story of the other twin sister Violet where part 2 was about Rose.

In this part, Vi manages to escape her uncle and cousin and forces Lord Leeds to take her north to her grandparents. She does not know that Christian is a spy and is also being pursued, causing him to flee. Chris promises to protect her and bring her to safety, but it's not easy. To avoid both evil men, they seek refuge at the school where new recruits are taught to do the work of spies. Here Vi learns to protect herself in a 1-on-1 battle. And that's a good thing, because this knowledge comes in handy.

A lot happens in this book and this makes you keep reading to find out how they eventually get to safety. A romance develops between Vi and Chris where he doesn't realize he's falling in love with Vi because he finds the concept of love a worthless emotion. Beautifully written and captivating story.

In this story I had a little trouble visualizing all the different locations and how far they were from each other. How did the hero know all the safe houses and the remote locations of some of them? Also how did the evil cousin always get away and especially from a magistrate’s custody? The intrigue and suspense were there as with the others in the series. Definitely not a standalone read. I enjoyed the banter between the heroine and hero and how he finally recognized her worth. On to the next one of the series.

Wow! This is just non-stop action….and I simply couldn’t put it down. Violet enrolls Christian, at gunpoint, to escort her north, away from her abusive uncle and cousin. It just so happens that she caught him as he was preparing to go into hiding, as his life was in danger. Together they make a mad dash towards safety. Meanwhile, their attraction to each other keeps growing. Lies, surprises and secrets abound. They have narrow escapes, gunfights, and steamy nights. But in the end, he overcomes his biggest fear and reaps his greatest reward. This is such a good story!

They are becoming what?
This is a tale about an abused woman who took her life into her own hands and escaped. Yet the danger followed. Look for suspense in this one it also covers some serious issues. I liked the characters Violet is young a bit naïve but desperate to get away. Christian on the other hand is a retired spy kind of but he know what to do. This does cause a bit of clash between them but that is what is fun about reading this book. I really enjoyed the ending and that justice was served. As I've often admitted - I am not a big historical romance reader...but I occasionally break my mold and pick up a fun looking title. "To Woo a Troublesome Spy" is one of those titles I am so happy I stumbled across! This story works as a companion book to "The Charming Spy" - which I've also reviewed (and loved!) and focusses on Rose's sister Violet. Definitely recommend this shorter stand alone as it really adds to the "Spy" series!.

Miss Violet Wilkinson has a plan to get her to Scotland this plan involves a pistol and the abduction of Viscount Leeds who will take her to Scotland whether he likes it or not.

Christian Samuels, Viscount Leeds wants nothing more than to conduct his spycraft in peace.
However a lady brandishing a pistol changes all that with her demands that spark his curiosity.

Theirs is an enjoyable story.

This is the third story in the "Seductive Spies" series. I enjoyed the story from beginning to end. It is a historical read on the darker side with suspense, action and trigger warnings. The plot is intriguing and very interesting. The story is about Violet, twin sister to Rose, who was in the previous story, and Christian, Viscount Leeds. The story is really good with humor, drama, angst, turmoil, steam and of course romance.

I immediately fell in love with the spirited and courageous Violet and hoped that she will find a way to break free from purgatory she lived in. Luckily she has found a lord willing to help her. There is enough of suspense and intrigue to keep you on your toes.
