I was excited to pick this book up. I don't see many indie superhero-esque books. The premise sounded interesting. Overall, the story was decent if predictable in places.

My big issue was with the text and formatting. I lost count of the number of grammatical and spelling errors, never mind places where the text itself was improperly formatted. I don't like to rag on any books for these things, but this pulled me out of the story a lot.

A true comic transformed into an exquisite piece of literature! The scenes play out as they would in a captivating movie, holding my attention steadfastly. I do wish Catherine would have been brought up more, being the first life Elizabeth saved, but the book was an action-packed ride. I felt the character's grief, joy, and fear so strongly. Well done!

Guardian: Into the Light of Day is a superhero tale about a very powerful extraterrestrial in human form. When the story begins, she has been living quietly on Earth among humans for hundreds of years, taking on numerous identities, generally calling herself "Elizabeth." One day an asteroid falls toward Earth, and she must fly into space to prevent a catastrophe. Now outed, she takes on a costumed identity and the name "Guardian." But she also has an enemy in a senator who is determined to destroy her. And there are more surprises. Somehow people are developing superpowers, an apparent side effect of the asteroid. As she investigates, she finds romance, but also dangers worse than she imagined.

This is a fun book in the superhero genre. I enjoyed the lead. She is powerful and compassionate, and I found her altogether comforting. You have to love a superhero who gives you a sense of hope. The world-building is excellent, with a deep backstory and many characters (perhaps a few too many) with surprising histories tied to the hero. I enjoyed the romantic subplot and her friendship with a scientist who eggs her on in her dating life.

The pacing was a little slow at times, with a little too much space devoted to the small details of her investigations. Still the payoff is easily good enough to reward the reader's patience. Fans of superheroes will definitely enjoy Guardian: Into the Light of Day for its detail, depth, and a hero who inspires with her strength and kindness.

Wow! I loved this novel! It was a cute and easy read; it reminded me of Supergirl with a little bit of Starfire from Teen Titans which is good because I love Supergirl and Starfire. The story was nice and the characters were cute; I loved Guardian; thought she was a pretty decent character. The ending was cute ^^

Can't wait to read more!

"Guardian" is an exhilarating female superhero novel that showcases the power, courage, and resilience of its protagonist. Written with a captivating blend of action, emotion, and supernatural abilities, this book takes readers on a thrilling journey through a world where extraordinary women rise to protect the innocent and confront evil.

The strength of "Guardian" lies in its well-developed characters, particularly the titular heroine. The author skillfully crafts a multifaceted protagonist who is relatable, flawed, and ultimately inspiring. As the story unfolds, readers witness the growth and transformation of the Guardian, not just as a superhero but also as a complex individual with her own fears, doubts, and desires.

The world-building in "Guardian" is vivid and immersive, effortlessly drawing readers into a dynamic universe filled with extraordinary powers and formidable adversaries. The author's attention to detail shines through, as they construct a rich tapestry of locations, history, and lore that lends depth and authenticity to the narrative.

The pacing of the novel is well-balanced, seamlessly shifting between intense action sequences and poignant character moments. Each chapter leaves you eager to uncover the next twist or revelation, and the plot weaves together various subplots and conflicts with skillful precision. The book successfully explores themes of identity, sacrifice, and the responsibility that comes with great power.

One of the standout aspects of "Guardian" is its portrayal of female empowerment. The novel celebrates strong women who challenge stereotypes and fight against injustice. The supporting cast of characters, including allies and adversaries, is diverse and compelling, adding layers of complexity to the narrative and contributing to a broader message of inclusivity and strength in unity.

While "Guardian" excels in many areas, there are instances where the prose could benefit from tighter editing to enhance the overall flow and pacing. Additionally, some readers may find certain plot elements predictable, but the engaging characters and thrilling action sequences more than make up for any minor predictability.

In conclusion, "Guardian" is an enthralling female superhero novel that packs a punch with its captivating characters, imaginative world-building, and empowering themes. Fans of the genre will undoubtedly be drawn into the exciting adventures of the Guardian as she battles against both external threats and her own internal struggles. This novel serves as a compelling testament to the strength and resilience of female heroes, making it a must-read for anyone seeking a thrilling and empowering literary experience.

Guardian: Into the Light of Day, by J L Meredith, is about an alien who takes a human’s body to bring her back to life. In this new body, this alien took on the human’s name, Elizabeth, and energy, but since she isn’t genuinely human, she lives on. Over eight centuries, she has worked to save lives without revealing her identity. This changes when an asteroid is about to hit Earth. Elizabeth stops it, but the explosion sends her crashing back down with meteorites. Caught on video, Elizabeth loses her anonymity. In the turmoil of this and the meteorites, meta-humans emerge, there’s a media frenzy, and one politician seeks to take advantage. Among this, a more significant threat emerges, one that wants to use Elizabeth to destroy Earth.

I enjoyed that it wasn’t just a superhero comic book. While Elizabeth wasn’t truly human, she was relatable. As a doctor, she wanted to keep people safe and save their lives, but she didn’t want to be in the spotlight.

Meredith did a great job of making Elizabeth strong and courageous. But he also gave her a couple of enemies that weren’t easy for her to overcome. However, her heart and willingness to help really brought her to life.

Guardian into the Light of Day, by J L Meredith, provides readers with a great story, a great protagonist, and some nail-biting moments. This action and adventure superhero novel will keep readers engaged from the start and even give them a bit of romance without going over the top.

“To be nice is to say to someone in his situation, I hope things get better for you. It's a platitude. To be kind is to work to make his situation better”

~~~
Reading this made me reminiscent of Flash and Super girl if not Smallville. Fans of these TV shows might enjoy this book.
Guardian: Into The Light Of Day is action and adventure superhero novel that follows one, Guardian, as she shines her light all over the world trying to keep it together while a sinister force is up to no good.
It's pacing was just right to fit along its thrilling fight scenes that kept me at the edge of my sit along steamy romance and hilarious banter that had me laughing uproariously. Not foe getting those moments of humbling anecdotes and commentary about being humane and kind.
You could see the universality weaving things from one corner of the world to the other. That oneness spoke volumes and concurred...
Loved the characters with their flaws, intelligence, kindness, crazy banter and differences that seemed to draw them together rather than apart.
All in all, this made an interesting read.
This was the refresh I needed.
We've entered a phase of superhero fiction lately where the stories are always bigger, bolder, or simply more 'deconstructive' or 'subversive' and yet I also see a pushback with a book like this because it is simply a straight up superhero story and, more critically, just a good novel.
That being said, there's a lot of threads in this book, explorations of power, loads of interpersonal relationships not to mention the action and just enough of the familiar to be comforting while enough original ideas to never allow complacency.
Guardian herself is what pulls it all together because her personality is so vividly written that she feels like a real person, a challenge at the best of times and perhaps more so when said character is a very powerful superhuman; yet it turns into the biggest strength of the story. She's powerful and familiar, but most definitely her own character and definitely good but never feels too good to be true, the best compliment I could give to Meredith as a writer of characters.
'nuff said.
I was interested in this book because the premise sounded interesting, and I was curious to see how the author showed a Superman-type character living on Earth for over 800 years and the impact she would have on society. Unfortunately, all I got was exposition recounting the main character’s past. It would have been nice to learn what the main character went through all those years.
Overall, this was an okay book. The story hit a lot of the expected moments for a superhero narrative. I appreciated the little nods to “Superman” sprinkled throughout the narrative. However, the story grew incredibly predictable near the end of the first quarter of the book. My biggest issues were the formatting, and grammatical and spelling errors. Every time “explanation” was used in the manuscript, it was written as “expRuthtion” and it pulled me out of the story.
When I first came across this book, I was intrigued by the concept. I just finished reading it and actually quite enjoyed it. I was expecting to be a usual story of a superhero protecting the earth, but it found it went beyond that.
I really loved the way the author has written Elizabeth, the protagonist of the story to be a powerful alien who is not afraid to protect those around her, but still show her to have an air of vulnerability.
The story itself is fast paced, the author carrying the reader along at a decent pace. His writing style is interesting, but still manages keep the reader's attention fixed without allowing it to slip. I sincerely hope there is a sequel, because I would like see more of Elizabeth and her meta human friends.
Thank you to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for the ARC. I requested this book because it is a superhero story and I enjoyed the illustrations that popped up in the book. Overall, this was an okay book. It hit a lot of the expected moments of a superhero finding their way and getting into fights and the self-sacrifice at the end. The overall book was fine but I was hoping for more. After I got about 45% into the book, I started skimming as I was not invested anymore. I wanted to like this but it is just ok.
I was a big fan of comic books when I was younger and I loved that the hero despite everything that stands against, they still win. The author wrote an inventive hero, Elizabeth. Elizabeth has been helping humanity for a long time and one event changed her life. Now, humans are aware of Meta Humans and they're weary of these new people. I loved this story and the author is very creative as a storyteller and the plot ingenious. I am a fan!
It's a creative, adult superhero story. I found the main character, Elizabeth, relatable. The situations she finds herself in are a humorous take on our media and political culture. Elizabeth's a little too perfect for my tastes in protagonists, but she never did anything that made me actively dislike her. I would have liked to meet the alien antagonists sooner, but the author covered a lot of ground in other areas.
Strong female superhero
It is hard to find a well written superhero in novel form. This story is close. When i read comics, if this had been one, I probably would have read it. There are some editing errors and some scenes that could flow better. Overall, a worthwhile read for those looking for a well thought out heroine learning her role in modern society.
I received a free copy via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a true superheroine story for adults.
The characters are well developed and although some parts of the story are poorly written, it did remind me of a comic story.
If you want a light superhero story then this could be for you.
This book is exactly as described. Its full of light-hearted fun, romance and a bit of excitement. I hoped for more action with these types of stories but oh well not everything will be to my tastes. I did however, really dig the lead of the story. She was both heroic and gentle at the same time. I would recommend this story if you're interested in the subject matter.
Different, but fun
I was wondering what happened to her original child? She seems to regain her power after injury. Was the bad guy killed? Was the "growth" found mean she is pregnant?
Enjoyable light read...
... But the sex was tmi. It's okay to artfully allude to all of the wonderful sex without being so self indulgent. I wasn't titillated, nor embarrassed. Truthfully it was boring and didn't advance the plot at all.
Superhero fiction at its best.
Not only do we get super powers and action we get a hero who is inspirational. A character whom we need more of in real life even without the superpowers.
I really enjoyed this book. The story and concept are unique and intriguing, and it's definitely one you won't forget. When an alien takes over a human body to bring her back to life, she also takes on her name, Elizabeth. Since she is an alien, she lives on over many centuries. She saves lives and no one is any wiser about what's going on. But then an asteroid almost hits Earth, and when Elizabeth stops it, something happens that changes everything. I thought this was very well written, and I loved Elizabeth. It's a thicker book as well, but I was never once bored. It truly was a great read.
