I read this together with my 10 yo daughter. It was good for quality time together and spurring on good conversation. Another great Elizabeth George book. 🙌🏻
I have some major concerns about this book. From the outside it seems like a decent, faith based book, but once you read it- it has a lot of Bible verses taken out of context. It seems to come from a works-based perspective and doesn’t address the concept of Gods grace when people screw up- something tweens desperately need to be reminded of at this time in their life. It gives off the sense of “just try to do better and God will honor that.” It doesn’t really address the heart of teens and the confusing emotions they are going through (but don’t know how to articulate.) I feel this book does more harm than good in the lives of impressionable young minds. The works-based perspective has made it easy for me to toss in the recycle bin. I would not advise using this book as a resource to help tweens in their walks with Christ.
I used this as Sunday School material for a Jr Hi girls class. It gave us appropriate topics to discuss and proved useful & encouraging. I liked the topics that Ms George covered and but added more scripture with the discussion of the chapters. As we worked through the book, we made homemade journals and kept notes of the main points, Scriptures, journal during the week and chose memory work as well. It usually took 2 weeks per chapter.
The thing I walk away with is the overwhelming kindness of the author and overwhelming love of God to us! Biblically accurate, soothing for the soul!
One little nitpick: she says that your parents love you more than anyone else in the world and you should never say bad things about them. This is true in my case, and true most of the time — but I wish she had done the tiniest disclaimer that God loves you anyway, even if your parents don’t — and that if your parents are hurting you, it’s okay to tell another trusted adult.
But overall a wonderful read! Friendly, gentle, conversational, encouraging!
A great devotional book for young girls. Elizabeth George gives good guidelines from scripture to help a young girl make wise decisions in her walk with God. I want to get a copy for each of my granddaughters.
Went through this book with my 11yo grand daughter this summer. I wasn’t a huge fan at first because I was hoping for more of a bible study. This is more of a character building book but did lead to some great discussion.
It's a Tween Adventure in 10 easy and fun chapters!
I love the fact that Elizabeth George has taken such wonderful spiritual truth and put into a format for younger girl's to enjoy just like their mom's have enjoyed in A Woman After God's Own Heart.
This book takes God's Word and applies it to the lives of 8 through 12 year-olds. (Although my 7-year-old enjoyed it, too.) It's part story, part devotional, part workbook, part fun and games! I found this book to be relevant, catchy, fun, and full of Biblical truth. It's great for an older girl to do alone, a younger girl to do with Mom, or for any girl's club or Sunday school class to use together. It is easy-to-use and the layout is appealing and interactive.
This makes a great gift for any young girl in your life whether it be on a special holiday or for a simple act of encouragement.

A Girl After God’s Own Heart: A Tween Adventure with Jesus, by Elizabeth George, Harvest House Publishers, 2011, Ages 9 and Up, 112 Pages, ISBN-13: 978-0736917681, $9.99
Elizabeth George, a Washington best-selling author, presents an “adventure with Jesus” in A Girl after God’s Own Heart that can be used as a Bible study or devotional for girls aged 8-14. An age group the media and advertisers identify as “tweens.”
The Urban Dictionary defines “tweens,” ages 9 and 14 as “…too old for toys, but too young for boys.” http://www.urbandictionary.com/define... While George recognizes young girls fascination with boys, teen idols and the anxiety of “finding themselves” she encourages them to develop a relationship with Jesus with these age-appropriate devotions in this “…crucial, transitional stage...” of life. ..Full Review: http://tinyurl.com/6txdoue
Enjoyed this - Elizabeth George, as usual, does a wonderful job of sharing struggles with those she writes for - in this case, tweens. Probably a bit old for my girl (she's 7 but wants to be a tween LOL), but I'm sure it will be super helpful and encouraging to her in a couple few years.
a good devotional to do with my pre-teen daughter. It seemed weak to me, but she enjoyed it and seemed to really relate to the topics, so job well done then :)
