Take an adventure upon the Magical Earth. The year is 564 AD. The Roman Empire's rule of Europe is being challenged by a fearsome army of goblins. The only power capable of stoping this force is a young wizard named Abacar. Learn how he and his friends travel across Europe in a flying ship, and how they deal with dragons, orcs, witches, and other monsters. They also meet many new friends along the way, including elves, dwarves, and a unicorn named Firemane.

In my opinion, this book reads A LOT like a group of kids and young adults playing through a D&D campaign with their cool uncle. The descriptions are not very heavy on details and quite a bit of action takes place behind the DM screen. My personal preference would like a little more story development, but I understand the necessity of keeping the story flowing to keep the reader engaged. It also seems to cater to a slightly younger audience, relative to the age of the namesake character. As much as it may seem like I’m being overly critical, the one thing that got to me was how the author seemed intent on including EVERY possible comparison to fantasy stories; to include but not limited to a magic school, a prophesied mage of unimaginable power, a jailbreak, dark portals to another world, overwhelming quantities of orcs, and a mysterious solitary unicorn. All in all, it was a pretty lighthearted fantasy romp that would likely appeal to a young adult, possibly new to the genre. Consider this an appetizer or a sampler of sorts. As a final parting shot, I’d be interested to see what happens to an adult Abacar…and how his character develops to fill his role and fulfill this prophecy that is briefly mentioned…
