Hey! Don't judge me. It's ok for adults to pick up a kid's trivia book and rip through it. I learned a few interesting things I didn't know, and was reminded of facts I had heard before. It's all good. I always liked trivia. You can never stop learning. So if you are in the bookstore, one of the dwindling few, peruse a trivia book. It's National Geographic, for goodness sake, everyone loves them. It's a bit cheaply made, and you know it is basically a money-making offshoot of the magazine, but who cares. If even one child finds something that fascinates them, it is for the good, and anything that gets kids to read is a plus in my book.
This book is full of random facts that are weird but true. I personally love this kind of book, but I also think that it really appeals to boys. It gives many facts that are almost irresistible to share and makes you want to read more. This book could be read in small groups, with partners, or when there is spare time to fill such as waiting in line to go to the bathroom. The facts can get students interested in specific topics and could be used as a way to find a topic to research further.

Did you know that you can buy socks made from bamboo? Has it ever occurred to you that humans and slugs share more than half of their genes? Probably not right? Well believe it or not both of those facts are real. The weird but true series is packed with highly interesting facts. You can learn about food, animals, technology, outer space, humans, history, holidays, geography and a lot of other subjects. These books are easy to read and a great source of non-fiction. You will be amazed about how much you know after you have read these books.
I gave these books 5 stars because they were so interesting and I couldn't put them down. I learned so much from them! I learned that if you eat to many carrots you may turn orange, hot water ways less than cold water, the worlds termites outweigh the worlds people, human thigh bones are stronger than concrete, it's possible to smell scents in your dreams, salt was once used as money, and hamster teeth never stop growing. Of course I learned a lot more but I thought these were really interesting. I recommend these books to anyone. They are easy to read, REALLY FASCINATING, and fun. Happy reading.
This is a good book in lots of ways - its really interesting (did you know that peanut butter can be made into diamonds?!) but also its easy format is great for younger readers who have a short attention span or reluctant older readers - it doesn't feel like you're reading, it feels like you are being amazed by every page by brilliant facts.
I loved this book because i could read and share facts with my friends, also i enjoyed this book because i have learned a lot of facts from it that i didn't know before reading this book.
This book is full with really weird stuff in it. I don't even believe some of the facts inside the book! It even has an average amount of how many times we will shower in our entire life!
We have a Little Library on my street and I venture to it every so often. I came across this book there and scooped it up very excited. You see, I work as an Assistant Teacher in an After School Program for grades 2 -5. We have books 2 and 3 in our classrooms, so you can imagine how I felt when I found #1! Though I haven't read the others, I decided to read this one and bring it in. As someone has mentioned in another review on goodreads, it's probably geared to boys, and that person is correct because it's only the boys who pick it up to read. Every day we have 20 minute reading time once homework is done. Well, except for Fridays - it's No Homework Day!
This little book is packed with interesting facts and if you like facts this book is for you whether you are a kid or an adult. Some I knew, but most I didn't, like these I randomly choose:
*Hippo sweat is red
* Horses run on their toes
*The smallest monkey is about as tall as a toothbrush
I'm very excited to bring it into work tomorrow. I hope the boys are super excited seeing a new one.
Really good, entertaining and educational in the perfect mix I loved that the book was divided into snappy subsections, or topics. The facts were truly fascinating and, as an adult, I wasn’t already aware of many of the facts so it was very eye opening for me too. There is a good selection of the gunky, yucky and shocking which I’m sure any self respecting child will adore (I certainly did!) Also the cute and unusual animals plus animal, poo, what more could you possibly want?! I can definitely see this appealing to a variety of ages, child and adult alike and would be a fantastic book to explore along with your child as you both embark on a voyage of discovery. It’d definitely prompt further delving and researching into areas they particularly delight in. A couple of minor formatting errors in the copy I viewed, but as it’s pre publication date I’m sure these will be ironed out. Lovely, lovely book and left me wanting more. I’ll definitely have to store some of the wackier facts in my brain to entertain my early years class, I shall be a hero! Thank you, very enjoyable.
The name of the book is called “Weird but True!” and the author of the book is National Geographic Kids and the total pages of the book is 208
The summary of the book is that it has a lot of weird facts, for example, a sneeze can travel 100 miles per hour also it said that owls can't move their eyeballs, it also said that if you eat too many carrots, your skin can turn orange, and that is super weird. What I think about the book is that it is weird because it has weird facts, What I liked from the book was all of the facts because I never knew about them until now, There weren't any characters in my book, I did like the authors writing because there were a lot of cool fonts like squiggling lines and other more fonts. I would recommend this book because they're a lot of amazing and weird fact in the books.
I liked this book but it had some problems. Weird But True is a book that shows facts that are supposed to be weird but also true. I thought it mostly succeeded but I found about a 4th or a 5th of the facts uninteresting and/or boring. I felt like they could have gotten some better facts. Also the book is a little short and for $8 I’m not sure if it’s worth it. One positive about the book though is that it is formatted well. Each page has interesting artwork and is colorful with unique fonts. Overall I liked this book but it was too short and I didn’t like all the facts. I give this 3/5 stars.
I think this book really enlarged my horizons. It is a book with 300 outrageous facts in it. For example, girls have more taste buds than boys do and on Neptune, the wind blows up to 1243 miles (2000km) per hour. But I think the author could state more details, for example, the most overdue library book was 288 years old, I think the author should include who, when, where the record was made. Overall, this book is extremely interesting and informative and I would really suggest my classmates to read it.
Showing weird but true facts to readers. Taking interesting facts and sharing them with an audience, and relating it to everyday life for students to learn from. This would be good for a fun book for students to use during free time in the classroom. The book is being detailed with facts and pictures to describe facts for kids to learn.
This book was really good all though it was a quick read. I blew by it mainly because it’s interesting. I highly suggest this book especially for younger children because it wouldn’t them such a short petition of time and also would give them information they can use throughout their life. Again I highly suggest this book to everyone and if you decide to read I hope you enjoy it.
I loved this book! There are so many facts that you just want to share each one! It is a great read and some of the facts are very interesting. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read!
My son has about 9-10 of this series, and rereads them over and over with the same enjoyment, often aloud to me. He even says, “Mom, you have to do your real reactions to the facts-that’s the best part!” He often fights reading time and yet these are always favorites.
Younger children will love these books as will teach him to read as well! the books help guide the little ones through the magazine. There are multiple facts that kept me interested and wondering if it really was true!
This book is full of fun facts that are weird but true and I think is a great read for any kids. It'd make learning fun for them and it's all very interesting and can hold their attention.
