Olivia is a vegetarian. And they're twins?!? Ever since Olivia discovered that her long-lost twin sister, Ivy, is a vampire, she's been soaking up everything Ivy will tell her about Franklin Grove's vampire community. It's all top secret, and Olivia's sworn that she'll never tell another soul. But now, nosy tabloid reporter Serena Star is snooping around. As she gets closer and closer to the truth, it's up to Ivy and Olivia to throw her off track. This is one fangtastic news story that can't get out.
Sienna Mercer grew up in Toronto, Canada. She was an only child, and always wanted a brother or sister – especially a twin. A twin would have been awesome! Sadly, she never got that sister so, when she was grown up, she did the next best thing - she wrote books about a girl who reminded her of herself, and gave her the most fun, fabulous twin she could think of!
Sienna began writing stories when she was a teenager, on a very wet day in Toronto when her cheerleading practice was cancelled - and she has not stopped writing since. She used to write in red leather notebooks while sat on her bed, but now does most of her writing in her attic, which is quite dark, and has some spooky cobwebs in the corners - the perfect location for thinking about vampires. She doesn't use red notebooks anymore, either, although she keeps them in a chest by her desk in the attic.
Sienna got the idea for My Sister the Vampire from a daydream she had - what if she had a super-cool twin sister... who was a vampire? She loved the characters - and their kooky friends and family - so much that she just had to keep writing about them.
When she's not daydreaming about vampires and cheerleading, Sienna enjoys travelling and exploring new cities, and keeps a detailed scrapbook of everywhere she’s visited. She lives in Toronto, kept company by Calypso and Angel – her two gorgeous cats. She is happily writing away and we wait for her upcoming books!
I’m kinda shocked by how much of these books I actually remember despite it being like 13 years since I read them. The nostalgia is real and honestly these are still entertaining light hearted reads. Everything is just so silly and fun, i missed them! Book 3 next!
This second installment in the My Sister the Vampire series continues the story of long-lost identical twin sisters Olivia and Ivy. As we are reminded, they are identical in all aspects but one; Ivy is a vampire and Olivia is a human (or, in the parlance of vampire slang, a “bunny”). Despite this major difference, despite being separated since infancy, and despite having markedly different personalities, these sisters get along beautifully. Their differences actually serve to make their relationship a strong and complex one, as they learn to understand and appreciate each other. In this installment, the Olivia is getting used to her sister’s secret status, and learning to separate the vampire myth from reality (“Most of them…were really nice.”). In fact, these are vampires living among humans, sharing their same values and feelings (drinking human blood is so last century…a trip to the BloodMart serves their needs without having to resort to something as utterly barbaric as human sacrifice). And when nosy reporter Serena Star shows up in town, determined to uncover the town’s secret, and hence destroy the vampire community, the sisters need to work together to throw her off the scent. This book does a great job of portraying middle-school life, and many of the dramas, challenges and joys that go along with it. This is a suspenseful, fun and satisfying read, while remaining age-appropriately chaste on the topic of vampires and young love. (Grades 4-8).
Okay this was still pretty dang cute and funny but damn that reporter really annoyed me!! So nosy. But it did make for some good tension in the plot. Like what would they do if the vampire community had been outed?
Olivia and Ivy are still so supportive of each other. I love how they'll switch places to help the other out. I'm really excited to see what will happen in the next book. I really want to know how their parents will take their news once they finally tell them! And I hope Ivy will finally get answers from her father about her adoption!
Also I forgot to mention that the slang and word choice in this is magnificent. I like the "vamp" words and how if something sucks that's a good thing.
2.75/5 stars. I liked the 1st book better. The whole thing with that reported was kind of ridiculous. Also I hated how unconcerned Ivy's father was regarding that issue. I know it's just a children's book, so usually in such books the kids always solve the problems and all that, but still all the fuss with the reporter was a bit silly.
This was so much fun, I devoured it! As this snooty tabloid reporter starts snooping around because one of the boys from the vampire "gang" called the Beasts falls asleep in a coffin and then that coffin gets mixed up with another. When they begin to lay him to rest, he pops out scaring a mourning family and becomes a headline, we get way more of the vampire world than in the first one as Ivy and Olivia try to distract the reporter from finding out the truth.
And in this one the girls look more deeply into their adoption, trying to find out who their real parents are. But when Ivy found out that the vampire adoption system doesn't have anything about her adoption, that didn't surprise me in the least bit. I have a theory on why not but I won't talk about it 'cause I don't want to spoil anything.
Overall I'm truly enjoying this series! I can't wait to read the next one because their secret is finally out and I can't wait to see how their parents react! I will be reading the next one as soon as I can next year!
★★★★ Fangtastic (My Sister the Vampire book 2) by Sienna Mercer This is the second book in the My Sister the Vampire series. This is another great book, in the series, and for Tweens. Now that Olivia knows her sisters secret, it is hers to protect, too. This becomes harder than she originally thought it would be when a pesky celebrity reporter comes to town. Serena Star is the gossip reporter for WowTv. She has her own show called The Morning Star. She is known for her bleach blonde hair, eyes that seem enhanced, and her lame, made-up catch phrases. But lately she has her sights on moving up the ladder of success, and becoming a serious journalist. While in Franklin Grove, she notices that most people have a series obsession with dark things. She decides this story is her big break, and will stop at nothing to get it. When Ivy Vega becomes the center of her attention, things become interesting. Now the fate of the vampire race, lies in the hands of 4 eighth graders, Ivy, Olivia, Brendan(Ivy’s boyfriend), and Sophia(Ivy’s best friend).
Dadurch gerät Lucy selbst in Gefahr.
This book is about these twins sisters that were separated at birth but one of them was born a vampire and the other was born human and they a trying to figure out why
I read Fangtastic by Sienna Mercer. In this book Ivy and her twin sister are trying to find out more about there birth parents. See Ivy is a vampire, but Olivia her sister is a human. And they're twins. How is that possible. That is what there trying to figure out.
Ivy has to save vampire kind again. Garret another vampire and was in a coffin to try out.He got mixed up with a dead guys coffin and opened up his coffin during the ceromony. He may have destroyed vampire cover. Even worse is that reporters from all over the country have comed and are doing stories about the incedent. Can Ivy and Olivia save vampire kind? Go to your local library to find out.
It's actually, a very good book for teens :) the identcal twin sisters both adopted by different people and accidentally bump each other, and realized that they both have the same parents due to the letter left to the agency and their identical ring that they both have (wearing). Pretty interesting, and how they both ended up invistigating who's their real parents was, and why Olivea is human while Ivy the other twin is a vampire.....apparently this book is my second grade daughter's book report, so I have to read it :)but I actually enjoy it.
Since the day Olivia Abbott discovered that her long lost sister was a vampire, she has been learning a whole different way to live. Olivia has supported Ivy with her secret since the day she found out. But now that Serena Star, a news reporter, has suspicions about Ivy and all the goths in her school, Ivy needs Olivia the most. Olivia is willing to help but she is scared to mess things up for Ivy. This book is about trust, friendship, and honesty.
I honestly cant remember what happens in this book, I only remember that it was FANGTASTIC! The title is clever, I cant help but think of Doctor Who though... Anyways, I recommend this book to any young vampire fan, or addict in my case. I love them vampires. Anyone exited for Vampire Academy being a movie btw? WHOO!
A cute story for a 4th or 5th grade level reader. The story is about 2 long lost twin sisters. one is a vampire and one is human. superstar reporter, Serena Star comes to the school after hearing rumors that vampires were living in the town. Serena will stop at nothing to prove her theory, but it's up to Olivia to make sure her vampire sister Ivy is not exposed.
For a young girl that wants to read about vampires this is a great, fun, clean series. I am glad that my 10 year old loves them so much she's read the series 5 times. I am slowly reading them so we can discuss them together.
Book 2 of the reread! Book 1 held up so well I decided to continue. This was light, cute, and funny, with enough emotion to keep the story from feeling too fluffy. 4 stars!c
5/5 Honestly I don't know what else to rate these okay- they're good, they're quick and they're cute and there's just a little drama and I think they're nice. I'm feeding my inner child today okay?
My daughter is loving these books. This one was more fun than the first, and somebody talked to the author between the first and second book about adoption language, so that helped too!
God damn this was hilarious! Quick easy read but full of good laughs. This book is also over the top dramatic, bear every character has at least one scene that is absurdly dramatic. With the first book I commented how the author seems like they’ve done their research on or are very familiar with goth. This book kind of changes my feelings on that a little. Still well versed in goth but clearling doesn’t know all the little ins and outs.
(Skipping world building because it’s literally the same as the first book)
Writing: Filled with humour and pretty on point jokes. Some of the joke are on the blunt side but that works with a kids book. Right at the beginning the book retells the sister finding out about being twins and one being a vampire. If this wasn’t a children’s book this would be bad. The Beasts, are the most unsettle vampires ever; there’s no way a good reporter wouldn’t figure them out. But I guess they are more or less figured out but not really. Serena is a horrendous example of a reporter though. Now something that still peeves me off a bit, theres even more vilification of vampires having/keeping their fangs. Once again, as a fang wearer and vampire lover, this pisses me off. Give your vampires god damn fangs; and let them be worn with pride! Olivia leading Toby around in the mall trying to lose him was hilarious. Leopard print bras, especially pointy ones, are so god damn tacky. I like that this book has no problem mentioning more teen level things like death, murder and bras. The twins switching places of course doesn’t go off without a hitch. But watching them get more or less figured out by Brendan is great. It’s done in such a ridiculous fashion too. Finally, as a goth myself I must say that being made to wear a pink sparkly tank top truely would be horrifying.
Characters: Ivy: uh I thought this girl was a well versed goth and rather smart? Goths are basically never portrayed positively on tv. This should have been grade A obvious to Ivy. (It sucks that this is true but it is still true). Other than that she stays true to her character from the first book. Her finally telling her boyfriend is adorable.
Olivia: Girls got some serious guts. Eats a whole damn clove of garlic, clinking her glass of milkshake with three other glasses of blood is hilarious and I love that Olivia isn’t even fazed. The whole dead aunt backstory with her is a little forced and unneeded though.
Toby: Utter sweet heart who just wants to be a damn journalist. But never puts the stories before the people. His reaction to the whole twins thing is hilarious and how the girls decide to tell everyone is so very dramatic.
Gallick: What an utter moron and dick. Like how can one person be so damn stupid as to jump out of a dead guys coffin at that guys funeral? And fake fangs just to get some lime light? Really? As for his little gang? The beast really are whimps and what vampire vomits at the thought of having fangs? Like come on.
Serena: Wake up sheeple! Serena is the weakest reporter I’ve ever seen. Just scraps an entire story and just hey “Wanna be made a role model for the town?” When like no this is completely unrealistic. Then tried to pull the trick on Ivy live? Serena is so damn over the top and no sane reported would pull this crap live. Plus the mental break down part? Really? That is beyond dramatic.
Ending: Of course Serena didn’t win in the end (this is a children’s novel after all) but tricking Serena is easily one of the crinegst things I’ve read. Glad to see that Garrick gets what he deserves. That’s what happens when you stupidly chasing fame through dirty means. I’m glad Toby gets his happy ending, getting to tell a great story about lost twins! Everything is wrapped up in a neat little bow at the very end. Cheesy and obvious but suitable for children.
Cover: The design is a great nod to both the fantastic previously mention milkshakes and blood drinks, inside a gothic vampire place scene. The coffin is a nice nod to the dumb stunt Gallick pulled and Olivia has her bunny shirt! The cover is also highly symmetrical, in an in your face sort of way. Once again the font and font framing is wondrously gothic! The title doesn’t really suit the story at first but it is a little nod to Serena’s made up words. However, Fangtastic is a real word that is actually used with both the goth and vampire subcultures.
Over all, I’d say it’s a pretty great outting and a good book for kids. Might be a bit cringe inducing for adults and the dramatic flares are bit over the top. But if you don’t take it seriously you’ll have fun!
Olivia, a human, and Ivy, a vampire, are twins. However, they were adopted by different families. Both want to know about their birth parents but it seems as though very little information is known about them. Now Serena Star, star of The Morning Star news program, starts snooping around believing there is something sinister happening in Franklin Grove and she is out to expose it. Will she? Will others learn that Olivia and Ivy are twins? Will their parents learn of it?
I enjoyed this quick read. I like the differences between Olivia and Ivy but I like that they know of each other. I appreciate that they help one another also. Their personalities are different but compliment each other. I wish Ivy's father did not dismiss her wanting to find her birth parents. She took the initiative to find them but there's a mystery there.
I look forward to reading more of this series to get my questions answered.
This is cute but it's definitely written like a sequel, like I'm supposed to already know a bunch of stuff that's established before the story starts, such as vampires exist and normal humans aren't supposed to know about them, but one does because she's the twin sister of a vampire, who she discovered when they happened to go to the same school on year and it turns out they both have the same ring their birth parent(s) left with them at the adoption agency and one is a goth (because, of course she is) and the other is a popular fashiony type and somehow no one else knows they're twins EVEN THEIR ADOPTIVE PARENTS and the story starts without explaining any of this until absolutely necessary.
Like, it's an OKAY book but I feel it could have been set up better. There's NO indication of it being a sequel anywhere in the book itself, which would've confused me less if there were a number somewhere.
Olivia’s long-lost twin sister, Ivy, has finally returned. Bit of a twist–Ivy’s a vampire. You’d think this would be a problem for Olivia, who is herself a vegetarian. But no, ever since Ivy’s been back, Olivia can’t get enough of her sister’s stories about her vampire life. Trouble is, gossip reporter Serena Star wants to know all about Ivy’s life as a vampire, too. And this is one secret that definitely needs to stay hidden.
Why The Ten-Year-Old likes it: “Perfect for early morning or late night reading. It’s not scary, except for the creepy reporter lady, and has a ton of hilarious jokes in it. It makes you think a lot about the characters, too.”
Who would enjoy this book, according to The Ten-Year-Old: “If you are anything like me and enjoy the not-too-scary, semi-horror genre, you will like this book.”
I know that I'm not in the target audience for these books, but I couldn't help feeling like the premise of this addition was particularly less believable than the rest. With a national reporter covering such a ridiculous scenario to a school project subplot that didn't really contribute much to the overall story, even for a book geared towards children I found it silly. I still enjoyed reading it again years after I initially did, but relatively it is one of my least favorites of the series.
This is a cute book about twins Ivy and Olivia. Ivy is a vampire while her twin Olivia is human. Both were adopted. Unfortunately, no info about their parents are known. There’s a brief side track where they try to find out from the vampire adoption agency. I wonder if Ivy’s father is her real dad and he had a relationship with a human woman? That would be interesting. Ivy is nearly discovered by Serena Star, but since Olivia is around to switch places with her, things turn out a lot differently than Serena expects.
