Bewitched by my Best Friend

Sparks fly every time they kiss. And that’s the problem.

Callie has always managed to keep her strange powers under control. Until her best friend kissed her, that is. After the literal lightning storm that moment ignited, Callie made a run for it. But now Sawyer has tracked her down, and he wants answers.

Sawyer did not expect to find his former best friend and girl of his dreams hiding away in a cabin in the woods. He expected the dragon hanging out in the garden even less. The more he learns about Callie, the more he realizes she really is magic.

But every time they touch, Callie’s emotions send her powers into chaos. Between the earthquake, the snowstorm, and the dragon sulking outside her window, how will Sawyer ever convince her their love isn’t dangerous?

When a neighbor goes missing, all eyes are on Callie. If she doesn’t find a way to control her emotions and her powers, electric kisses will be the least of her problems.

This is a prequel/companion to A Curse of Blood and Wolves, but it’s not labelled like that in the Kindle store. So, a heads up if you enjoyed that book, because you’ll probably enjoy this, too.

This novella got straight to the point, which is exactly what I wanted. No excessive buildup, just right into the story, which is refreshing for a friends-to-lovers plot. I loved that we skipped the drawn-out pining and jumped into what felt like the third act already. It’s a perfect little palate cleanser, and while it didn’t throw any curveballs, it didn’t need to. Sometimes, a straightforward, sweet story is all you’re after, and this delivered.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much detail was put into fleshing out Callie and Sawyer as characters. Even in a short space, they were more than just placeholders for the romance, and while the writing had a slightly amateurish feel, I can see the potential for future books (which is already starting to evolve in A Curse of Blood and Wolves).

Another delightful, engaging story from an author who makes a fairytale so believable!

This is my third Melissa McTernan story and I am now totally a fan. What I love about these books is that the worlds she creates may be either fantasy or paranormal but her characters, their motives, emotions and reactions are so convincing, that she really does suspend disbelief.

This tale, like the others, is a joy to read - Sawyer is an utterly gorgeous, loveable sweetheart and Callie an FMC we can really connect and empathise with. And Iggy the dragon? Well - that would be a spoiler! Their journey may be an unusual one, but their love story is engaging, tender and wonderfully steamy!

If you are looking for a feel-good flight of fancy to cheer you up and brighten your mood - look no further.

This was a cute little paranormal romance. It was a great palate cleanser for when I needed a little pick me up.

Callie and Sawyer had been friends all the way through school. Sawyer finally worked up the courage to kiss Callie, and then she disappeared for two years. He stumbled across her again, and followed her to find out where she has been and make sure she was okay since she disappeared without a word. Turns out that freak lightning strike that happened the night he kissed her wasn’t such a freak accident. When Callie’s emotions are unleashed, so are her powers.

Sweet and steamy, this story is about a young lady whom has locked herself away because of her powers. A boy who liked her in high school randomly found her, turns out she liked him to. They get hot and heavy as she is trying to figure out herself and her abilities.
It was a fast paced story, young lust and stuff, honestly it has potential to be a powerful storyline if it changed focus from romance to fantasy. It was a good, quick easy read.

A delightful feel-good book.

Bewitched by my Best Friend starts very strong and sucks you in rightaway. Although there is suspense throughout the book it is essentially a positive and inspiring love-conquers-all story, with some fairytale elements and a lot of humour. Very well written and an absolute joy to read.
Highly recommended!

I loved this book. It had such a cute story line and I just love witchy characters! The story drew me right in and kept my attention throughout. This novella had a few different tropes in it but they all worked really well. Characters were well developed and easy to connect to. Five stars!

Great story! My only complaint is that it wasn’t long enough. I would have loved more backstory, and more details as the plot moved along. But I adored the characters from the beginning, and couldn’t put this one down.

I received a copy of this book for free through Goodreads giveaways.

I love friends-to-lovers, witchy characters, and #OnlyOneBed, and this novella has them all! McTernan's writing is natural and lovely, and I was drawn right in, riveted by the (literally) stormy reunion of a pair of friends who've been apart and pining for each other for two years. What's been keeping them apart? Well, Callie has a bit of an inherited issue in which her emotions make the weather and other natural forces go nuts, and when romantic passion is involved, that seems awfully dangerous...oh yeah, and she also accidentally conjured a dragon. As you might expect from that description, this story is funny at times! But it's also moving and spicy and quite satisfying. I'm impressed how complete and full it feels for a fairly short novella. Well worth your reading time!

I really disliked the male lead. He came across as feeling very entitled to the relationship. I think the story wanted to swing more in the 'yearning over a long period of time' kind of feel, but Sawyer acted too much like he was owed more from the relationship because they had kissed once. Bleh.

I also didn't get a big sense of how the world worked. Are magical creatures and abilities normal? Is this an urban fantasy? The only magic I saw was linked to Callie so I'm not sure if she's an anomaly in this world or not. Sawyer isn't too put off by her dragon, so I assume there's more magic in this world?
