The mistake was going after his niece… All Dax “Kaos” Forsy wanted after leaving the army, was to run his bar and love on the people who cares about him. But his brother just doesn’t know how to behave, and soon his demons begin visiting Kaos’ niece. Knowing the cops won’t be much help, Kaos decides to take matters into his own hands—and won’t stop until they pay. Firefighter Valentina “Zoom” Maddox is scared. Two years after she survived a fire, Zoom isn’t the same confident woman she’s always been. To make matters worse, she’s been secretly in love with Kaos ever since she was a teenager. But there is no time to cater to her heart as Kaos is on a mission to destroy the men who hurt his niece. While she isn’t a soldier, Zoom is hell-bent on having Kaos’ back whether he likes it or not. …no matter what the outcome will be for her heart.
I loved this book in that not only was Kaos a badass, Zoom was too. His niece was no slouch nor was Tas. Loved the approach of a world of strong women around protector alpha men, which we see, but not as much in this genre at this level. Great story line with enough adventure to keep up some suspense and a good romance of friends to lovers. It was set in Toronto with a trip to Taiwan. Would have loved to know a little more about Kaos and his background, but it didn't hurt the story any. Loved how Kaos and Zoom had each other's backs and Kaos didn't seem to have many qualms about Zoom's involvement in tackling the bad guys alongside of him because he knew she could handle herself capably. Lost a star due to the book needing a serious proofreading.
The book was full of action and love scenes. At times it was hard to follow as the proofreader did an awful job. There were sentences that made no sense and numerous characters out of place i.e. Storm instead of Zoom.
