With loyalties divided and two families at war – the fallout could be deadly.
"Edie Baylis has produced another fantastic gangland read. I loved the characters and was gripped from the first page. A massive 5 stars!" Bestselling author, Caz Finlay
Don't miss book two in the gripping new Allegiance series perfect for fans of Kimberley Chambers, Heather Atkinson and Caz Finlay.
Over the years Edie has worked all over the UK, as well as in several other countries and has met a lot of interesting people - several of whom have supplied ideas for some of the characters in her books! She has now settled back in central England with her partner and children, where she is pursuing her writing.
Edie writes gritty gangland and urban fiction and her series so far include her latest - the Scarred series, the Allegiance series, the Retribution series, Hunted series and Downfall series.
When she isn’t writing, Edie enjoys reading and is a self-confessed book hoarder. She also enjoys crochet and music as well as loving anything quirky or unusual.
Fallout by Edie Baylis is the second in this fantastic series. I really enjoyed book 1, Takeover, and could not wait to get into Fallout. I loved it just as much! Edie Baylis is one heck of a writer who keeps readers on the edge of their seats.
I think one of the strengths of this novel is the characters. There are some to love and some to hate, but each have a distinct realness to them, that made the plot believable.
This is quite action packed with lots of secrets and revenge. I never thought I’d like gangland thrillers as much as I do when I read Edie Baylis novels. This is a great series so far and I’m looking forward to the next book.
If you like gangland thrillers that keep you guessing, check out Fallout.
Thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources, Boldwood Books, Netgalley, and the author for the free review copy. All opinions are my own and unbiased.
This is the second book in the series and that’s where I pick the story up. I had a lot on my plate in the beginning because I did not know the characters from the previous book and I had to get to know them. That was no problem at all. I quite liked it, figuring out who was who and who was part of which family.
This was a book filled with lies, deceit and revenge as the cover already promises us and they kept their promise.
I like it when those scheming so and so’s end up with what they deserve. You reap what you sow and when you try to solve things with violence, you often are treated the same way. So if you cannot stand the heat…
Sam is the one who evolves the most. She goes from little princess to tough business woman, but that does not mean she looses her hart of gold for those she loves.
As I mentioned before when reviewing a gangland crime, that’s what I really enjoy about the genre. The bosses are hard as nails, but where their loved ones are concerned they will do whatever they can to protect them. They love them deeply and they fight with all they have.
I loved this book and I am looking forward to the next part. 5 stars
A very welcome return into the world of the Reynolds and the Stokers, a dangerous society filled with drugs, gambling, prostitution and blood money. This is a read filled with deception, rivalry and oh so much violence.
The characters in this series are FABULOUS; Some to love, some to truly detest. Each and every character is so believable and as such, are able to provoke so many emotions. The chemistry they hold is just so gripping!
Safe to say the allegiance series has definitely become one of my favourite books. Fallout doesn't just live up to the first book in the series, it goes way above and beyond! I'm excited to see what book three brings.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing me with this ARC 📖
After reading book one Takover, this is the second in the series..
We return to The Reynolds and Stokers. Amanda Reynold's has taken over her dad's business and she is determined to prove that she is strong and can lead her firm, she is getting support from Rival gang leader Seb Stoker much to the disgust and mistrust of his family.
This gritty gangland novel will have you peeking out from under your bedcovers. There is a lot of crime, violence, jealousy, and heartbreak for your enjoyment. What a corker of a book. I love all of Edie's books she doesn't hold back and is very graphic in her description.
A well-written book with good characters and a believable storyline.
Excellent this book was so good. I do so hope things work out for Sam and Deb. She needs tho find Linda butt I am so glad the children are being looked after by someone who cares.
This is the second book in a great new series and I would say it’s much better to have read book 1, Takeover, first since this book picks up straightway from where the first story ended. In book 1 the reader learnt that thirty years ago Tom Bedworth got teenage Linda Matthews pregnant and the ensuing baby was rehomed. With the pay-out he received, he made a nice little earner for himself in Macclesfield and now in 1995 he has arrived back in Birmingham to set up the grotty Aurora club with its rigged tables and entourage of cheap scrubbers. Two successful club owners – the Reynolds led by father Len and the four Stoker boys led by their father Mal – run Birmingham, the two families being rivals rather than enemies, working in harmony with their legal casinos and the “other” less legal sides. Soon both eldest son Seb Stoker and Len’s daughter Sam find themselves in charge of their respective empires. While Seb was born to the job, Sam finds herself thrown in the deep end and quickly has to learn the ropes. John Maynard, the son of Len’s murdered business partner and best mate Jimmy, thought he would take over from Len and is furious, determined to stir up trouble for Sam. Things quickly turn ugly and at the start of book 2, John is dead with only the Stoker boys knowing the truth about his demise. They believe John killed the youngest Stoker boy Gary who now lies frozen like a pork chop in the freezer at their warehouse but only Tom knows who was responsible for that killing. Tom now has bigger plans. He knows his baby is Sam Reynold and plans to use Linda to worm his way into the Violet Orchid to get his hands on the coke that the club supplies to half of the city. Linda is one of life’s losers, an alcoholic and former crack addict who has only managed to keep two of the eight children she has given birth to. Overjoyed to have Tom back in her life and the prospect of meeting her long-lost daughter, little does she realise how much worse her life will soon become. While Sam is getting to grips with the business and has a new reliable right-hand man in Kevin, she has no idea that long time friend Liam is gunning for her. He is determined to get the business and the girl he thinks are rightly his and, insanely jealous of Seb, will go to any lengths to do so. The Stoker camp is unsettled too. Andrew resents Seb and Neil doesn’t know who to side with. Some people are playing dangerous games full of lies and deceit. Just who will rise to the surface and who will sink without trace? This is an excellent and gritty thriller, gripping from start to finish and a superb follow up to book 1. The characters are now fully formed and it was easy to be rooting for some of them, despite their less than palatable activities. I am really looking forward to more in this exciting series. 5*
I first discovered Edie’s work in January 2022 when I was invited to take part in the blog tour for the first title in ‘The Allegiance Series’, which is called ‘Takeover’. I have been a fan of her work ever since. I haven’t had time to catch up on everything that she has written to date but that’s something I hope to rectify this year. I read the synopsis for the second book in ‘The Allegiance Series’ called ‘Fallout’ and it certainly sounded as intriguing as the first book did. I couldn’t wait to start reading and so without further ado, I grabbed my Kindle, grabbed a cup of tea and settled down for what proved to be one hell of a read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Fallout’ but more about that in a bit. It took me no time at all to get into ‘Fallout’. In fact when I read the synopsis of ‘Fallout’ that was it for me. I knew that I had to get hold of a copy of the book and read it just as soon as I possibly could. As soon as I started reading I knew that it was pointless planning to do anything else other than reading for the rest of the day as I wouldn’t be able to put the book down. I was spot on too. My Kindle wasn’t exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I couldn’t bear to miss a single second of the story. I had my own theories as to what was going to happen so I had to keep reading to see if I was on the right lines or if I had wandered down the wrong path entirely. I became so wrapped up in the story that I lost all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the book. I soon got to the end of ‘Fallout’. I found ‘Fallout’ to be a gritty ,gripping, tense and dramatic read and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. ‘Fallout’ is extremely well written and then some. The author certainly knows how to grab the reader’s attention with an eye catching synopsis and she draws the reader into what proves to be one hell of a compelling story. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained as fast pace throughout. Reading ‘Fallout’ felt like being on an unpredictable and scary rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way. Edie clearly cares about her characters and this shines through in the very vivid and realistic way in which she describes them. She makes her characters seem as real as you and I. Some of the characters scared the doo doo out of me and I would run in the opposite direction if I was to ever meet them on a dark night. I love the way in which the author makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action, even if it did scare me somewhat. In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Fallout’ and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Edie’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.
The second book in The Allegiance series, Fallout takes us straight back to Samantha Reynolds world. I was again, blown away with Edie Bayliss's writing. After a fabulous first book of a series, I do wonder if the second will live up to the standard set by the first. I always do it, and with this author I really shouldn't. I have never read a book that isn't excellent from her. Fallout is yet another example of her being amongst my favourite gritty crime/gangland thriller writers.
As in Takeover, the various characters are all ones that are memorable on one way or another. Edies Bayliss has done an excellent job of creating characters that I hated and ones I loved. The plot picks right up from the end of the first book, Where Samantha Reynold took over her dad's business. This book sees Samantha and Seb, a rival club owner, having to work together so they can handle what they expect is coming.
The decision they make to work together doesn't hit the right note with everyone around them and they find themselves having to find a way to convince them all that everything will be fine. Will they be able take everyone happy with their decision?
Edie Bayliss has brought the tension, mistrust and intrigue into this particularly well. The way she has told it keeps the story at a great pace and really gripped me. It kept me reading way past my bedtime that's for sure. I am loving this series and am so invested in Samantha! She is a woman who feels she needs to prove her worth, strength and determination.
I would say start at book one, but, the author does do a great job of bringing new readers up to speed. I have to say I have a thing about getting to know the characters, so do try to always read series in order.
If you are looking for a crime/gangland thriller that's addictive and so well written, try this series. I am sure you won't look back.
This is the second book in the series, the first book Takeover was brilliant and it saw Samantha Reynold taking over her father's business. This second book continues the story as Sam and rival club owner, Seb work together to deal with what's coming.
This book could be read as a stand-alone, but in all seriousness, I would consider reading the Takeover first as it introduces the characters and deals with things that make it easier to understand them. That being said the author does a great job of filling in the basics.
As Sam is still coming to terms with being adopted she has the support of Sam Stoker. Although they didn't immediately trust each other, they have realised that they can not only work together but trust each other. Being rival club owners work for them, but not necessarily for those who work for them. Family's can be tricky things and when they feel that things could be a danger or threaten them things get tricky. How can they convince their respective families and close family friends that this is all going to work out?
The author has once again provided a fabulous story that hit the grounds running. Working the suspicious natures of those around Sam and Serb has been wonderfully done. It adds tension and gives the overall feel of the story a good pace. Sam still feels as if she has to prove herself, which is difficult for a woman to do at the best of times. But, in this more male-dominated world she has to prove not only how tough she can be but also that she is resilient. Seb, well he is a fabulous character and is the rock that Sam needs. But, as much as she needs him he needs her as well. They make a great team.
This is a dangerous world that the author has created for her characters. The baddies are great as well as obviously the goodies! The author brings a sense of mistrust and intrigue that helps fuel the pace of the story, it kept me on my toes and eagerly turning the pages. The title Fallout is brilliant as for me it sums up this story very well.
If you are looking for a crime thriller story that has a strong gangland element to it then you really need this series on your shelf. Brilliant story, fabulous characters and an addictive read. It is one I would definitely recommend.
Fallout by Edie Baylis. The Allegiance Series Book 2. Samantha Reynold is determined to prove she’s tough enough to be the boss but a secret from the past threatens everything. Only one man can helps her but will Sebastian Stoker do it?. A brilliant read. I love this author. Great story and characters. I hope there is more to come. 5*.
Wow what an explosive second book! Man, I wanted to jump in the book and give two characters a ruddy good hiding! Although Sam saw through one of them (finally) it wasn’t an easy scene and I’m not ashamed to admit I inwardly cheered… What is wrong with me? 😂
This book is violent, seedy and so goddamn addictive!! I am so hooked on this series. I want to dissect it all and tell you exactly why and what I love about the book, but it will spoil it all. But believe me, I do love it!
The characters are just so realistic and I seriously feel like I am part of the underworld with them. The swearing, the violence. Just everything. I just love it all!!!
Sam is a like a phoenix, in the respect of she has gained her wings with her firm, and boy does she fly high. She doesn’t take any crap.
The Stokers are the Montagues of the story and there is so much unrest, I was worried. I hated the aggression between the kin and I had no idea where it was going to go and what the fallout would be.
I hate Tom! Seriously this man makes my skin crawl and my blood boil. He is scum. No redeeming features at all and I swear to god if he doesn’t get his comeuppance soon, I will find a way to crawl into the book and do it myself. He is a disgusting human being.
But do you know what, kudos to Edie for inciting so many emotions and feelings from me, the reader. I have so many feelings for a few characters and I have my favourites. I have to say I do love Neil Stoker. He was the voice of reason the brothers needed. He isn’t showy, a bit of a lad but I thought he was just brilliant. Loyal to a fault and when he spoke up I was cheering.
I am completely worried for Sam and more so Linda. The way this has been left hope but actually has me so worried and so sad. I want a happy outcome I just can’t see it.
This series is addictive. I love the way Edie writes. It a just one more chapter book. I am flying through them, but I really don’t want to because I will be too close to the end of the series and I might cry… Ahem.
I am so invested in everyone’s lives. In the deceit, secrets, rivals, shocking deaths, and everything else in between.
Wow...brilliant second book in the series, and as always with Edie's books, I didn't want it to end but at the same time couldn't stop reading. Once again with this book, Edie's proved that she is up there with the best of the genre and I'm looking forward to the next book.
What a great read this is the second book of the allegiance series and Edie is doing a fab job. The characters are good some you love and some you love to hate. You are drawn in from page one and it’s a fast paced read with lots going on. It definitely left me wanting more. Hopefully Edie is busy writing book three now.
Samantha Reynolds Is determined to prove she's got what it takes to be tough enough to be the boss.A past secret threatens to ruin her reputation and when things fall apart there's only one person she can turn to Sebastian Stoker. He loves Samantha so much he'll protect her no matter what but it comes at a price, his place as head of the family firm is threatened and when accusations begin to fly The Fallout could be deadly. The second book in the series. Gritty and gripping throughout great characters even the badies. My new go to favourite author can't wait for the next installment. Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC.
another brilliant book buy this author. Sam is still in shock over the revelation that she is adopted she has still not spoken to her mother. With her cousins execution her workers are asking where he is. and someone phones the local paper and tells them about Sam but they use SEB s brothers name. its not good in SEB s camp at moment his brother Andrew is not happy about SEB and Sam s relationship and someone else is not ever he wants her and Sam s natural Father wont stop until he gets what he wants very gripping so recommend
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.
This is a great follow on to Takeover. I thought this was a gripping and thrilling read that was very entertaining. There were characters I either really liked, loved or loathed and I can’t wait to see one of them get their comeuppance. Sam has taken on her late fathers business and is now running it herself. This book is full of lies, secrets, deceit and twist after twist that I loved. It is very well written, flows very well and raced to an unexpected ending. Edie Baylis certainly knows how to write a book that grabs your attention immediately and holds it right to the last page. I read this in a day, it was that good! Looking forward to the next book in series. If you like gangland thrillers then this is for you and I’d definitely recommend it.
Book Two full of secret's lies and revenge with family the Reynolds and Stokers, Samantha Reynolds learns her real identity, that is going to cause one big massive fall out with the families and who do you trust. Revenge is out there just waiting to strike. This has to be one of the most twisted stories I have read this year so far, it's so full on with action that I could not put it down, sensational, mind-blowing story, that makes you gasp, the author has done a brilliant job of bringing her readers feeling they are in there with the characters that you either love or loathe them. This book will go down well, and it's a book I will recommend to all. A well deserved cracking 5 big stars and more from me. Eagerly wondering what's coming next.
Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC. This is the second in the series and not having read the first book it took me a while to get into it while I worked out who everyone was. Then it was non stop and I liked the pace, the characters, the storyline and the fact that you couldn’t predict where it was going. The story follows Sam Reynold who has taken over her father’s business following his death. She is determined to prove, to not only her own staff but also her rivals, that she is not a walk over and is up to the job. On top of this she has news that makes her question her own identity. If you like gangland and gritty this is one for you. Definitely an author that I will be reading more of!
I found Edie Baylis quite by accident on Kindle Unlimited and wasted no time catch up on her earlier books. #Fallout is the second installment of the Allegiance series, in my humble opinion it's equally as food as the first book #Takeover. If you enjoy books set within the criminal underworld, drugs, gangs and prostitution then pick up an Edie Baylis book you won't regret it.
When 2 people begin a relationship it's all fun and games but when those 2 are supposed to be enemies keeping the secret is virtually impossible. It adds a certain element of danger and extra excitement. In #Fallout Samantha Reynolds and Sebastion Stoker find themselves in this position, of having to protect themselves from other leaders knowing, even knowing that this could put their lives at risk they think it's worth a shot. The question really is can they stand together or will they fall at the first hurdle?
There's a destructive and vindictive force in #Fallout, one that is consumed by an enormous streak of anger, hatred and not to mention jealousy. As we all know those are 3 emotions that can destroy all common sense and reason, plant seeds of the craziest ideas along with an inflated sense of their own self. There's an abduction, drug misuse in more ways than one all within these pages. So when enemies join forces you better watch out!
This genre is my go to read at the minute, they tend to grab my attention almost immediately. Although this has led to some late and rather well done meals at home ha-ha. I have to admit I enjoy that books with a strong female protagonist especially when they are within a male dominated world, One that shows them to have the guts to fight for what's theirs. Samantha Reynolds is all of the above but she also shows us a vulnerability, her need to find her mother, who definitely wouldn't win any mother of the awards.
Thank you to the author Ms Baylis, #Netgalley and #Boldwoodbooks for the ARC. All opinions are mine and mine alone
Fallout is a great follow up to the continuing saga of the Reynolds and the Stokers. I read Book One quite a while ago but everything came back to me really quickly. Edie Baylis has a no nonsense style and her characters speak and act exactly the way you would expect. They are totally believable and I enjoyed getting to know these characters again and delving deeper into their seedy world of drugs, clubs and complicated relationships. Especially Sam and Seb, they are so right for each but from different sides of the fence can they really believe a relationship would ever be possible?
The tension and a building level of distrust is told superbly well. You can not help but get drawn into the lives of these families. Some of the characters are downright despicable and you really do seethe when they pop up. Edie has a fabulous way of bringing out your emotions when reading her books. A pretty hard task I am quite sure. It proves she has it spot on when you really hate the sleazy low life’s that crawl out of the pages. I warmed to Sam and Seb increasingly and just rooted for them throughout. Yes they still are part of this underworld that makes them take decisions most of us wouldn’t but they are good people at heart. I loved Fallout and Find Edie Baylis is up there on my fav authors list. Just brilliantly gritty.
Edie Bayliss brings the danger, tension and adrenaline of life on the wrong side of the law with her latest thriller, Fallout.
Samantha Reynold needs to assert her dominance. With her abilities being called into question, Samantha needs to prove that she can cut it playing with the big boys. She needs to show that she’s tough enough to handle herself and to be the boss, but with the odds stacked against her, Samantha’s road to the top just keeps getting steeper and steeper. All alone and with nobody she can trust when a shocking secret from her past threatens to destroy any hope she might have had of being the boss, Samantha finds herself turning to the least likely person who can help her out: rival club owner Sebastian Stoker.
Nobody knows better than Seb just how deadly secrets and lies can be. Seb has plenty of first hand experience and has the scars to prove just how destructive and devastating deception can be and although his instincts are telling him to keep Samantha away, all he wants to do is protect her and keep her safe. But at what cost? If anyone finds out about how close he is getting to Samantha then he could stand to lose everything – including the position as head of the Stoker family which means the world to him.
With their families at war, the stakes for Samantha and Seb have never been higher. Will everything they have worked so hard for end up slipping through their fingers? Or will there be a twist nobody will see coming?
In Fallout, Edie Baylis has written an action-packed gangland thriller that will leave readers with their jaws on the floor. Fast-paced, gritty, shocking and so addictive it is impossible to put down, Fallout is a chilling thriller about loyalty, betrayal and power Kimberley Chambers fans need to add to their must-buy list.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Fallout is my first gangland crime novel. It’s not my usual read – or is it?
Set in Birmingham, in 1995, it’s quite strange to read about a place I once lived quite close to. Mentions of the shops made me chuckle, and I recognised many of the place names if not all of them.
I thrust myself straight into the book, not realising that it’s the second part of a two-part book set (I know, I do this all the time.) That said, I did eventually work out many of the interactions – if I missed a few things, it didn’t impact my enjoyment of the story. And, I did enjoy it. It’s not my usual read – and it is really quite gritty. There is no one in this book that is particularly pleasant – there’s a lot of backstabbing and the plot winds tighter and tighter as it continues. You just know it’s all going to get very nasty in the end. And it does, but not quite as nasty as I feared:)
So, yes, not my usual read, but a story of backstabbing and double-crossing is very similar to the sort of story I like to write, and so the setting might have been different but the plot was alike. Overall, I enjoyed my first foray into a touch of gangland, and I will certainly be reading the follow-up.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for my review copy.
Fallout by Edie Baylis is the second book in the excellent Allegiance series. I really enjoyed this book especially as it was the first book I have read from this author, and it's about the world of Samantha Reynolds Most of the characters were good and you will have a love hate relationship with them But overall they were good characters and they made this book great with so many twists and turns throughout it will be a roller coaster ride. especially as it's full of lies, secrets and revenge, but secrets have to come out in the end they can not be hidden forever!
I am looking forward for the next book within this series.
Read this on the back of reading book 1. I'm now going to dive right in and start book 3. Always find the silver lining, being behind on a series can sometimes have advantages. Glad I have given these books a try. Edie Bayliss is on her way up in this genre a name to watch out for. An interesting read. Great for any gangland crime thriller fans. I This book is action packed, follow Sam on a journey she never imagined she'd be taking. Families, secrets, lies, divided loyalties this will have you turning those pages.
Samantha Reynold has stepped up to fill her father’s shoes after his death and is straightening the firm out with the help from Seb Stoker. There are secrets to be exposed and the past is coming back to blow her world apart. This was a superb sequel to Takeover and I look forward to the next one. If you love The other Gang queens such as Martina Cole and Caz Finlay then this one is for you. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
The second book I have read by Baylis and the second book in this series. Though I was not as engrossed in this novel as I was the first, I still found it an interesting, and intriguing read which has kept my attention once I got into the first couple of chapters. Again, if you like gritty gangland thrillers then this is an author for you.
A brilliant second book in the series. Can’t wait to crack on with the third. Fantastic writing, not at all predictable which I love and so many clever twists. Think Edie Baylis is up there with my favourite gangland writers
