Tell the truth and shame the devil … All her life, Lily has been told to "loosen up" and "live a little,” but she likes her life the way it neat, tidy and logical. Sure, she can’t tell a lie without getting queasy and she’s picky about whom she goes to bed with, but she’s not repressed. She’s controlled. Until she meets Sebastian. With Sebastian, she feels like a different person, and she finds herself doing things she never thought she would. Plus, she can't seem to stay away from the guy - and every time she’s near him, she wants to ... well, she just wants to. There's something about him. Something not quite…human. But when events take a dark and frightening turn, will Lily figure out the secret to his out-of-this-world appeal … and if she does, what will she do about it?
I am definitely a fan of chick lit, though I continually struggle with female characters who are all about what everyone else wants - never actually thinking of their own well being. The character of Lily starts out as a middle of the road photographer, who meets the gorgeous and rich Sebastian at club Abbadon. Though he is clearly beautiful and extravagant,he's a bit of a self absorbed ass upon first introduction. So Lily decides to blow him off - but a chance meeting brings them together again. Clearly there is something a bit "otherworldly" about the male lead and Lily takes this first book to start learning the truth about Sebastian, his mother and their a-typical family dynamic. With slight touches of "woowoo sexy time magic," this is a great start to a supernatural romance trilogy, where the characters desperately want to ensure that they love each other for who they are - not just because of the mystical spark in the air or the number of zeroes in his bank account.
Lily is a no one. Or at least so do she think about herself. A no nonsense kind of girl, and a bad liar.
Sebastian still coming to terms with that his long lost mother has returned - and with a secret that changes his life forever.
The energy between Lily and Sebastian is sizzling, and it´s so fun to read Lily's confusing for her new behaviour and theories behind it too. Who is Sebastian? He´s a really compelling guy for sure.
A chick lit World mixed with a bit of Harry Potter and Twilight.
Oh, and btw the imp is SO funny! Totally want one myself.
The trilogy continues! Lily finds herself trying to navigate her way through her new relationship with Sebastian - meeting the "evil" mother-in-law, talks of moving in together (definitely my favorite scene in the book) and a special surprise at the end. This book definitely felt like fun chick lit meets Supernatural - but not at all corny. Lily is a strong female character, who desperately wants to maintain her sense of normalcy, even after everything has been upended in her life. I can't wait to find out just what the "hell" the thrilling conclusion to the series will bring!
Short fun read. I liked the characters. Minimal editing errors. According to the author, there will be 5 books in the series. Possible I will continue to read but I really HATE serials where you're nickel & dimed to death to get the whole story and end up spending more than you would have if it had been sold as 1 book.
Such a fun story and I'm so glad there are more to come. Tammy Labrecque avoids clichés and keeps the pace moving at times as fast as a heartbeat, yep that's me and not her. I could identify with Lily and that's also part of the charm. Yep Sebastian is (almost) too good to be true, but this is what romance stories are about. An enjoyable and escapist read.
Lily is a photographer with a magazine and the night before she is supposed to photograph a club she meets its owner. That’s because she goes to the club with her girlfriend, Miri. When she encounters Sebastian Batiste she doesn’t realize that he’s the owner but she does know that she feels attraction for him in ways she never felt for anyone else. Sensation on the other hand is one of the richest bachelors around and has forsworn off women’s because they bore him. He has a little secret about himself that makes the women want him and he’s not exactly happy about it. So when he meets Lily and she says no to him he’s immediately entranced. He decides she’s the woman for him and things go in a different way after that. For Lily its losing her job and then offered one by Sebastian whereupon she learns who and what he is while in Vegas. This is just the first book and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
I didn't care too much for this one. It was really more of a novella, or even a short story, and didn't have much of a plot. Girl meets guy who is very sexually attractive to her, girl resists guy, guy overcomes resistance. Guy turns out to be half demon (his mom is a succubus) which explains her sexual attraction to him. Or does it? He in turn is attracted because she turns him down despite his powers (at least in the beginning). Like I said, not much of a plot.
