I’m Ali Hayes, and despite it all, I’ve fallen for my four best friends.
Dating two of my best friends, who are also the most eligible bachelors of New York? Check. My escalating stalker is now actively hurting me and my men? Unfortunately, check. Desperately wanting more with my other two friends? Check. Who exactly is my stalker, Hannah? And what does she have to do with the mysterious security organization Pendulum? Secrets are being revealed and my head is positively spinning from all of it. I never thought I’d have to deal with all this violence and bloodshed, but I’m surrounded by people who are willing to protect me at all costs. At the end of the day, I know I have my men to fall back on, even if our relationship calls for a tumultuous journey to a happily ever after.
SAFETY This is a New Adult reverse harem novel, meaning there are multiple love interests for our heroine and she doesn't have to choose. Slow/Medium burn, guaranteed HEA by the end of the duet, and absolutely no cheating (and no OW drama, woo!). Just gorgeous men with eyes only for their woman.
Ridiculous. Cringey. Nonsensical. Nope. Bad writing, meshing of MCs, special snowflake FMC, poorly written time skips, unrealistic scenes, reactions and dialogues. Big fat NO.
**Please note: I always try to not spoiler anything, but I can't guarantee it. Be aware and read with cautious!**
So, part two of the duet has a lot of the same issues, that I had with the first installment. Ali stays the same, though, she gets better and more confident with the guys.
Still, not much on the background of the characters and a lot of jumps in time between the chapters.
But, again, what was lacking, was met with an interesting story. It kept me invested. Especially, everything regarding Pendulum and Preston.
Sure, there is a big hint to the story of Saige. And I'm happy about it, because I'm more interested in her story and to know more about Pendulum. As I told in the review to book one, I'm normally not a pure contemporary reader. I like it if it's Omegaverse or mixed with paranormal/fantasy elements.
The only negative about that is, that it makes Ali's guys look weaker than Maddox Nicoli and others. It's not really bad, because everyone knows there is someone out there, who is simply better than you. But still, I think the main characters should be in the foreground and be the baddest in the story. Or, at least, look eye to eye with other men. But here, it is clear to see it's Pendulum, that calls the shots. And even Preston seems to be badder. BTW: I hope Preston gets a story, too. He seems fascinating.
But still, the guys would really do everything for Ali, even if it means to be on the darker side of things. Which they were, of course.
Overall, I enjoyed it and because of the story, I stay with 3.5 to 4 stars.
I really wanted to love these books. Because the premise is just the type of book I like to read. I honestly knew that I wasn’t going to love it after reading the first book but I just wanted to finish the story. The author’s style of writing is a little all over the place. For example one moment the person is sitting in bed and then they are opening up the refrigerator. When did they walk to the kitchen? Or she is doing a flashback and it’s hard to know who is in the flashback and when she comes back to the present. One moment she’s with her friend and then she’s with one of her boyfriend and then she’s with another boyfriend and you’re lost. and while this is going on, I can’t help but wish the scenes were a little bit longer instead of jumping around like that.
And I have to say that the villain of the book wasn’t much of a villain. I think it was more about talking about bodyguards and making sure you’re safe again and again than any real thriller/suspense going on. And you can really tell when the author was trying to introduce you to characters that she wants to do a spin off about.
I give this series a 4 stars. It's not bad but it could of been better. The whole I need to hide my other boyfriends didn't sit right with me at all. Why are you with them if your not fully with them. If your ashamed of what people would think then you ashamed of your men. She contradicts herself alot of times. Some thing didn't even get discussed. Like moving in together. How can you have a relationship and not even in the same state. They should of a big place together. I always dislike when one guy is more involved. Like I get the slow build of the Harem but it was mostly about one guys. They all loved her for years. They should of just talked together and said hey we are all in love with her. I've always disliked harems like this. They seem like friends and close but yet aren't I dont know they may all be together but yet they aren't really together if you know what I mean. It's all over the place. There's not really an ending it shut off. Other then that the plot was all over the place. It wasn't a bad story just all over the place. However 4 stars cause I did like the guys and FMC and I liked all of her security.
And when it did, there was very little consequences. As in, something dramatic happens and next scene, she's in a room with one of her boyfriends chilling... ?
And the fact the author really wanted to insert her other RH book with Saige, so much so that Saige and her guys are basically the ones resolving the issue (and kinda causing it too?). You can hint another love story, but this was too much, it also made Ali and her guys look like little kids in comparison.
Also, something that was already in book 1, that still baffles me in this one: They've been supposedly friends with each other for years, and yet they know next to nothing about each other? I mean how does one of your best friends of 5 years doesn't know that you don't talk to your parents ?
Distraction does not disappoint. It is a bit edgier than it's predecessor, but in all the best ways. Slightly darker, more suspense (though less action in a way) and tantalizing sexy fun times without oversharing. As an avid reader, I appreciate that this story didn't end with marriage and children like so many romance books do these days. It's refreshing to see a happily-ever-after that isn't dependent on wedding bells and baby cries.
First time writing a sequel, and honestly, I felt more nerves releasing this one. Fingers crossed.
I had a lot of fun writing sweet moments for the Exception Duet. These characters have danced around in my mind for a long time now. My dream men, haha.
Cute ending for Ali and her guys! The time jumps and lack of history were still confusing, but I felt like this book flowed better than the previous one. I'm very keen to see what's going on with Saige and where Preston ends up! I loved how the characters grew together! The plot was done well, and the author has set up a great future for this universe.
This duet follow Alie and her harem. She collects them in pairs of sorts and they dote on her. If you like books with the heroine in danger and alphas willing to go to any part to save her you’ll like this duet
This book was all over the place. I wanted to like it but unfortunately this was a miss for me. I pushed through til the end just to see what happens with the Hannah plot. Nothing, nothing really happened. Still don’t know why she was even a factor in the storyline.
though, I’m a bit peeved that you introduced Saige’s story early on. There should be curiosity, sure. But she stole a bit of Ali’s spotlight while reading. And the insertion of paranormal theme should be just a glimpse, not wrecking us from the main characters. While I really am excited about Saige’s story, I got annoyed that she got the “immortals.” Like in a story, I should feel the guys are the strongest/invincible there. 🙃
