This comprehensive guide is filled with great ideas, practical help, and straightforward guidance for anyone planning their own publication. It covers newspapers, magazines, journals, newsletters, electronic newsletters, and e-zines.
Having helped edit and produce a few society newsletters and sat on a magazine editorial board, I was surprised by how much of this book I already knew. Much of it is common sense and more gives the options which the reader will then have to explore for themselves, such as likely circulation. The last chapter deals with e-zines and I'd advise a reader to get a more up to date book on these, especially for SEO and Google analytics.
The book is laid out in practical and logical order, chapters like what kind of newsletter you want to produce, what software packages are available, paper sizes, the content types, how to get content, layouts, a schedule, advertising and advertorials, legal advice. Some published examples are shown, for instance readers' offers and adverts.
Glossary at the back, of publishing terms: I spotted one incorrect entry. DVD stands for digital versatile disc, not video. I borrowed this book from the Dublin Business School Library. This is an unbiased review.
