How can one man fight the entire Shift, even if that man is the most powerful warrior anyone on Earth has seen? With the liberation of Chicago, Troias' new County gained a measure of security and prosperity it's never experienced before. That prosperity brings problems, though, in the form of warlike neighbors, potential allies, and new monsters. Everyone and everything demands Troias' time and attention, including the new President of the United States. The Shift upsurge brought a new level of danger, and Troias has to meet it with his Facets and his blade, but how can he do that when his most powerful weapon might be slowly killing him? Troias has to choose between conquest and diplomacy, between keeping control and having faith in those around him, and between protecting himself and safeguarding his people. None of his choices are good ones, and if he chooses wrong, he could unleash new horrors on the world...or even start a second Shift!
Kyle Johnson is a kids gymnastics and martial arts instructor who teaches outside of Chicago. He's worked on cruise ships, traveled the world, climbed glaciers, ziplined between mountains, and even danced in the end of a rainbow.
Currently, his main hobbies include helping his wife raise their two kids, because after that, who's got time for hobbies?
Exciting twists and turns but deadly threats are always close by in the Shift
Troias actions have accelerated the Shift and caused a lot of others to fear him and his people. They see him inexorably crush every threat or challenge as he grows his county. Taking on city Omegas that they couldn’t dream of beating with all their people together. Troias just wants to safeguard his people and as many humans as he can. He’s strong enough to not care about their opinions but he is honorable enough to give them a chance until his moral line. Don’t cross that or him or his people. Is also recommend leaving his dog Max alone, he’d probably eat them. Seemingly the only thriving society in North America, Troias and his people have to think of what is best for humanity as they watch leader after leader fail to provide food, protection, and more for their people. Meanwhile the world only becomes more dangerous, oh and wait until the ending to see … more of what’s coming!
“This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
As the title says this is a review for Kindle Unlimited and as such is a reflection of my enjoyment of the book and in no way reflects cost to value analysis. I hate trying to define my enjoyment and describe facets of it that would appeal to someone else. It is simply not my style. But for the sake of those fishing for clues:
Character development: good Game elements: minimal Harem elements: none Summary: super fun series. I love the inclusion of local myths and legends.
I will happily discuss the book with you on Goodreads if you are so inclined. As always, I am open to debates and arguments, but also vain enough to seek acknowledgement, so feel free to roast me or applaud my efforts. Either is acceptable, because if you are paying attention to me then you are at least considering the book. And THAT my friends is exactly why you see my comments here.
This story of the System taking over and an ex MMA adapting to it to thrive was Fantastic. I really like that the guides were animal spirits, instead of the bleeping fairies (Sookie}. I didn’t enjoy the stupid dragon at the end and hope he doesn’t dominate the next book. Great Reading regardless.
I love the wit and good logical thinking in most chapters. The action is very good and the interpersonal communication is great. Sometimes some of the conflict goes a little long, but we’ll worth it. The exchange of explaining what is happening is refreshing and very needed in most books, and this one has it all… please keep it up!
This series has grown to be one of my all times favorites. The continuation of each book has been on point! The main characters are unique and each has they’re own struggles. It’ll be good for the author to branch out and make a whole universe of the “phase shift” with the system he has in place. Can’t wait till the final!
Kyle Johnson is writing a series that is captivating, energizing, plays with values/ethics, and the tension evident with power. Would that “real” people would recognize the tight rope that exists when people get power without advisors to balance. The fictional read is great and keeps moving well.
Overall I liked this one better than book 3. Trois has hoisted aboard that he needs to be ruthless with people who fuck with him, and he drops the gloves here in a big way toward the end. Next book is the last one, and that sounds right to me, as I see one more major arc for this story. We'll see how far up the chain Troias goes in book 5.
All the characters continue to grow in each book of the series. Always forward movement on the plot line. He is growing as an author and I am glad to along for the ride!
This is a well written and somewhat original series of books, and I am looking forward to the next book. Good characterizations, well written action scenes, and an intriguing story line. I recommend this to anyone that enjoys this genre.
