Ebony Dust is a Literary treasure from pre-civil War Liberia. It consists of over 100 poems; mostly pertaining to life in Liberia. I appreciate that the author took time to include a few poems written in various Liberian dialects. The edition I had was published by Sedco, it includes pictures and footnotes to enhance the readers understanding of each poem. For years, I have searched for his work in stores and online but have been unsuccessful. Luckily, I was able to secure a copy of this gem via the public library- unfortunately this is the only work by Mr. Moore in their collection. Ebony Dust is a love letter to Liberians and has remained a staple over all these years.

Ebony dust - written in 1962

Other work by Bai T. Moore- Murder in the Cassava Patch

Moore is considered one of the foremost and essential Liberian writers. His status is well-earned, he paints colorful scenes of his travels in the tempo, rhythm and voice of his world.
