I became interested in Japanese history and Sengoku era from playing Japanese video games, where the famous Tokugawa, Nobunaga and Hideyoshi often came up as characters so I picked this book up to learn more about it. This book was written very well, extremely easy to understand so that even those who hate history or find it boring will enjoy it. The dialogue and writing style is humorous and casual, and the author compares many aspects to modern day examples to help the reader get a better understanding of how things were back then. The casual and entertaining writing style seems to be targeted at young people and students. The book goes from the Oda Nobunaga, battle of Sekigahara, Osaka Castle, Sanada Yukimura’s legacy and battle with Tokugawa, and finishes at Tokugawa’s victory over Toyotomi. It’s not long and took me just a few hours to finish. Overall a great book for anyone wanting to understand the otherwise complex Sengoku era. As for the Japanese, this book would be fine for anyone upper intermediate to advanced level with a strong knowledge of kanji.
