Protect and serve has become protect and rule.

There's a new sheriff in town and while Rob has survived the first few weeks
he still doesn't have any magic all his training has led to a new ability.
The prompts call it cultivation but no one seems to know anything about it.
So far he can use it to make himself stronger, faster, better but its a lot of work.

Now he has to juggle the many responsibilities of the sheriff as he tries to
make Yonderton a safe place for all the people looking to him.

Speaking of juggling, he has to sort out the bunny girl clerk, the foxkin deputy,
the secretive elven alchemist, and the would be father-in-law who is intent on
Rob marrying his orc daughter.

The opposite of OP

I get trying to have a more balanced MC, but when you have him not just losing, but losing badly every fight of consequence he has and then coming out for the better by forced, ridiculous improvements after the fact it just feels boring. Add in that this book is becoming way more harem and way less plot/action I think I'm done.

Very bad.
Bad to the point of laughter, like slapstick comedy.. but not.

Suffers from continuity errors in the story. Logic and basic common sense also takes a backseat for an inane plot. Even referring to it as taking a backseat is wrong its more like left behind in the parking lot with the author motoring away.
The whole story feels like a consistent ass pull.
Even the audio narration is poor. I found multiple misreads and mistakes by the narrators including editing errors where partial sentences are repeated.
I don't know really but listening to this made me think the author must have been drugged out of his mind while writing it.

This falls into the category of could have been better. The MC continued his actions from the first book of trying to be a "great guy" based on his earth standards but it sort of makes him an asshole in this new world. He doesn't listen to what the women around him are telling him and thinks that his way is the right way. His internal monologue : "I can't possibly have sex with this super hot woman who clearly wants me to have sex with her because it wouldn't be right until we form an unbreakable bond. Oh but I am not ready to settle down and make a commitment and they aren't asking for one." Overall I still am enjoying the series and hope that the MC gets his head out his ass a little more in the next couple of books.

Boring and too whiny

I enjoyed the 1st book very much and it was a vocal surprise to solve the books are there that deal with multiple partners and magic with this book was simply too boring to ignore. I really did not like all the long explanations about what was going on. I didn't like how he was being manipulated by the assassin girl who was teasing him with her body but at the same time with spying on him for someone else this was just too much... Manipulation going on for my liking. I don't know what the author is trying to do and I will probably read The 3rd book but.... I cannot recommend this book it's too boring

Introduction:
Greetings, denizens of the vast realms! I am Kiba Snowpaw, the Alpha Ice Wolf from the frozen world of HowlStrom, where winters last a century and magic flows as cold as the icy rivers. Today, I shall share my thoughts on "Law of Family" by David Burke, a tale that has resonated with my icy heart.

Basic Plot Summary:
In the town of Yonderton, Rob, the new sheriff, strives to maintain order and safety. Despite lacking magic, he discovers a unique ability known as cultivation. As he navigates the challenges of his role, he encounters a myriad of characters: a bunny girl clerk, a foxkin deputy, a mysterious elven alchemist, and an orc father-in-law with matrimonial intentions for his daughter. Amidst these challenges, Rob's journey is one of growth, responsibility, and the complexities of relationships.

Analysis/Evaluation:
"Law of Family" is a tale that intertwines fantasy with elements of cultivation, presenting a world where magic and relationships are deeply interconnected. The narrative delves into Rob's struggles, both internal and external, as he grapples with his newfound abilities and the expectations placed upon him.

Characters:
The ensemble of characters is diverse and intriguing. From the enigmatic elven alchemist to the passionate foxkin deputy, each character adds depth and color to the narrative. Their interactions with Rob provide insight into the complexities of relationships in this magical realm.

Structure:
The story unfolds in a structured manner, with each chapter building upon the previous, leading the reader deeper into the world of Yonderton. The pacing is well-balanced, allowing for moments of introspection amidst the action.

Impact:
The tale left an indelible mark on my frosty heart. It reminded me of the challenges we face in our own realms, the importance of family, and the bonds that tie us together.

Hook and Thesis:
The allure of "Law of Family" lies in its unique blend of fantasy and cultivation, set against the backdrop of a town teetering on the edge of chaos. It is a tale of growth, responsibility, and the intricate dance of relationships.

Praise and Critique:
I commend Burke for crafting a world rich in detail and characters that resonate with depth. However, some reviews suggest that the balance between the harem aspect and the plot could be better refined. While the narrative is engaging, there are moments where the focus on relationships overshadows the broader storyline.

Evaluation:
"Law of Family" is a captivating read, offering a fresh perspective on the fantasy genre. While there are areas for improvement, the tale stands as a testament to the complexities of relationships and the challenges of personal growth.

Comparison:
The tale evokes memories of other fantasy epics, yet it carves its own niche with its unique blend of cultivation and character-driven narrative. It stands as a beacon, reminiscent of the icy landscapes of HowlStrom, yet distinct in its warmth and depth.

Conclusion:
In the vast expanse of literature, "Law of Family" shines as a tale of magic, relationships, and the journey of self-discovery. As the Alpha Ice Wolf of HowlStrom, I find solace in its pages, and I invite you to embark on this journey with Rob and the denizens of Yonderton. May your path be illuminated by the frosty glow of magic and the warmth of bonds forged in adversity.

Howl with pride and read with passion,

So the setup here is the protagonist is underpowered compared to many of the people and threats around him. He needs to get stronger faster, and while he is a cultivator, he doesn't understand anything about being a cultivator or how to use it to become stronger.

As a consequence of this, he keeps making arguably dumb decisions, putting himself in a lot of danger, and then somehow surviving due to well...in theory some combination of being a cultivator and blind luck, but really it's just plot armour. Over and over the protagonist gets some notification hinting he needs to do something, ignores it, jumps into danger, should realistically have died, and then doesn't, and somehow comes out stronger and with some new notifications giving him hints he'll ignore.

And I really dislike the "protagonist makes dumb decisions, ends up in danger, survives due to plot armour" trope! Make fewer dumb decisions! The entire premise is "protagonist must get stronger ASAP or die, and has a unique path to get stronger", and then he keeps opting not to focus on this path and hits the inevitable consequences of his actions, and then somehow doesn't have to suffer through them.

Feh. Because other than that, this continues to be a perfectly servicable book. Decent protagonist, decent supporting characters, decent world, decent litrpg system. Nothing particularly unique or rising to greatness, but nothing bad either!

Another fun read. A bit heavy on emotional content

So another good book in the new series. I certainly enjoy the promise and it's a lot of fun to watch the MC grow. Learning to cultivate without Immanuel must be Challenging. That said pain is a fine teacher it seems. The harem aspect Is slow and rewarding. Though I find the early and continual emotional or bit distracting. But overall they're still plenty of story. This particular book didn't move the story line a lot but allowed Rob to learn some new abilities and train himself more since obviously he is the weakest link so far. It seems that his being a play thing of the gods is getting even more so. I assume by the end everybody(gods) wanna piece of the action(Rob). However with a building full of hot ladies I doubt he'll be complaining. Bring on the next book.

Rob Case's Olimeran Family Grows

Rob Case came to Olimera to be the Sheriff of a frontier town. He thought he knew what that meant — even if there was magic and races of people who were nothing more than myths on his home world. He soon learns that he knew nothing, but he's learning quickly. He has learned the Law of Strength and now turns his attention to learning what the Law of Family means on his adopted world.

This novel, and the series of which it is a part, fits into the LitRPG, Body Cultivator, Harem, Erotica and Isekai genres; however it may interest readers of the wider Fantasy genre and those who enjoy playing RPGs.

My first impression was that the MC had got over a lot of his Earth hang-ups in the face of overwhelming evidence that he IS IN A DIFFERENT PLACE WITH A DIFFERENT CULTURE. He made some progress, but not enough.

There is some rationale for his reticence to bag all of the unattached women who want him, but with all the bullshit he puts the elf alchemist through, he's lucky to not be finding out what an alchemist scorned is capable of. Not annoying enough for me to not read the next one, but we're getting there.

The exciting story continues

In this continuation of the story we learn more about Rob and the women in his life very strong the women are. There's also new criminal elements that are entered as well as challenges that he must overcome. The personalities of everybody are distinct and different and I like the way they interact with each other. There's lots of action fighting and loving and I can't wait to see what happens next in the political maneuvers of both mundane and the gods.

We're on book 2 now, and I felt the series declined versus book 1. Yes, Rob is still training to get stronger with some very light cultivation going on, but the harem aspects take precedence which wasn't what I was looking for.

On top of that, the action elements decline. Another gang moves into town, taking out the old one, but it's just a little too easy for the sheriff and deputies.

I think this will be my last book in the series. I gave up on harem novels a long time ago (with the exception of Hondo, who still writes decent stories), and I'm not interested in reading them again, especially since they're all variations on the same theme.

4/5* I hoped for better.

I can't keep a straight face when all these gangs are named after boy bands. Then they drop song names here and there.

I just realised that a lot of the books I've been reading were full of furries.. It really says something that people aren't making lists and putting in all the pro-furry books, so people can avoid. Years ago, it would have been so.

I could do more with the Sheriff thinking to use his abilities first, but he has only been in that new world a few weeks, so it will take time.

I will pick up the sequel.

Fantastic blend of fantasy and cultivation!

Reading the first book in this series was more a curiosity, only to find myself drawn into the unique world David Burke has created.

And this, the second book pulls you further into the chaotic life of Rob as he learns all about cultivation in a world where Magic and Mana makes him the odd one out.

Plots are further developed whilst still keeping you just in the Darke bought that you want to know more!

Looking forward to book 3!

Convoluted plot

The whole ki/cultivator series of explanation is so much wasted space to me and I generally speed read through this material. The character development is fair, the MC is an idiot in his behaviour at times so the secondary characters save the day by being fairly interesting. This type of etory probably appeals to the younger crowd, but I'm reading to see where the subplots coalesce and figure out the villains. 5 stars for entertainment.

Excellent Series

Rob is improving his stats while gathering an excellent group of strong women around him. His alchemy skills are increasing forming soul bonds with remarkable women. Other forces are gathering trying to make Rob a pawn on their chess board. Book three will be amazing!

Fantastic

The series just keeps getting better forget the harem and different races etc the story is engrossing and like few others its not about sex with the protagonist then onto the next, at least a large slice of life with good fights and interesting charcters that so few in the genre are good at.

Good for a book 2

Enjoying the continuing progression of the MC and his battle to stay alive. He is slowly increasing his relationships and the number of women wanting to be his Clerks or Deputies. An enjoyable read if you are interested in a Swords and Magic Progression/Cultivation isekai story with a harem relationship aspect and not fade to black sex scenes.

A great new installment

Definitely a little slower growth than the first book, but it can't always be 100mph or it would undervalue what is achieved. Like how it has gone and can't wait to see where it goes.

Great

This is a deep dive into cultivation with an interesting western twist. The humor is perfectly timed, same with the exciting action pieces. I look forward to the rest of this story!

Badassery!!

Just wanted to say this second book in series had all kinds of greatness. Rob is really advancing in his cultivation skills, and his comfort in his new duties as Sheriff is pretty cool. Can't wait to read Law of Freedom.

Love this series

One of the best series out there! Lots of action and a few new characters added in. The world to the East is fleshed out a bit as well as other players gunning for Rob. Plus all the gangs are named after boy bands!?!!!?! Hilarious!!! I love it!

Great read

Second time reading through this book and have to say that it was even better the second time. Especially when you are reading the books back to back, instead of months later. Looking forward to the next one.

Some of the dialogue and actions of some of the characters seemed a bit off at times to me. Like it almost felt like that's not the way a person would really react. That was a little bit distracting. But the story was fine.

Lena sure is annoying though, not sure why she is MC's #1 girl.

Enjoyable!

I like the way the story is developing. Yes, it has the problem most harem lot had, but at least the characters are interesting and developed. I am looking forward to seeing how the characters develop as the series continues.
