It is said the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and Phillip Staketon hated two things. His nose and food. So there was no chance at getting to his heart no matter how good the food smelled.
Growing up, Phillip could hunt down the best meals for miles around town but his reward for such hard work left a bland taste in his mouth. It's not that he was particular about his food, no. He’s tried every dish imaginable and all they’ve done was fill his belly. For you see, Phillip was born with no taste buds but a keen sense of smell.
One day, his nose led him to the doors of Whyne and Cheese where he was entranced by the heavenly aromas of a beefsteak sub in the making and the beautiful woman behind the cooktop.
The woman, as Phillip will soon discover, is Ebony Whyne; an undiscovered culinary wizard. She will take Phillip's taste buds on a much-needed journey that will not only fill his belly but the emptiness in his heart.
This book was not what I thought it was going to be and I was very pleasantly surprised! The two main characters both had disabilities that weren't really discussed until the end of the story. Ms Gilmore gave me a chance to fall in love with Phillip and Ebony before learning the truth about them.
This was also a sweet love story about two people who despite their disabilities did not consider themselves different. They both went after what they wanted and I loved reading their journey.
I highly recommend this story and can't wait to read more from this author!
This was a quick read with an interesting premise. What bothered me and still bothers me would be the need for some editing, some more content so it’s not so choppy and some serious other issues I’d help eliminate if I’d been the editor of this book.
There were a few plot issues that stuck out to me as inconsistent and the characters weren’t really developed. It could do with a rewrite. I finished the story and didn’t throw into the DNF pile and spent money on the book.
