Folk Haven #2

Sucker for a Siren

Rate this book
He doesn't believe in fate. She's fine with single life. The gods have other plans. Seamus MacNamara may be a mythical creature, but that doesn't mean he has to believe all those legends about selkies finding their fated mates. Specifically, that his mate will rescue him. Complete nonsense. If he is going to ask a woman out, he'll do it because he likes her personality, not because she saves his life. Problem is, the barista Seamus has tried his hardest to flirt with ends up giving him the Heimlich when a cookie goes down the wrong pipe. What would a siren want with a selkie, anyway? Neri Onassis may have thought Seamus was cute at first, but when he freaks out after her acting the badass hero, her tiny crush evaporates. Good thing, because she needs to put all her brain power toward figuring out her new life in Folk Haven, the mythic-filled town next to Lake Galen. After an awkward break up with both a man and her parents, Neri left her old life behind, determined to figure out what kind of person, and siren, she wants to be. An ungrateful selkie is only a distraction. But in a small town the two continue to cross paths, and Seamus finds himself giving in to the call of the siren's intelligence and humor. After a passionate encounter, the selkie wonders if the gods had the pairing right all along. But Seamus can't rely on fate when Neri refuses to even consider mating the man who ran from her in the first place.

I enjoyed this one but not as much is the first in the series. The characters have some negative motivation, meaning they’re fighting against a relationship even though they are interested in each other. I find that this is exhausting to me and I don’t end up liking the characters as much.

However, I love the world, I love the community, and I really enjoyed seeing the main characters from the first book back here.

It’s a fun world that I look forward to spending more time in.

A low-angst shifter romance is like a diamond in the rough. It's really refreshing to read a PNR without the threat of sexual violence, torture, or death! Folk Haven is like the quaint town where normal shifters - or, as Connelly calls them, "mythicals" - go to live normal lives.

Neri is a siren - meaning that she's a humanoid with angelic wings and can sing breathtaking songs that no one can remember the lyrics to. Seamus is a selkie who's got issues with having a fated mate. Their romance is slower burn than the previous books in the series, primarily because Seamus is fighting his idea of fate and Neri isn't about to chase after a jerk.

This book deepens the mythology around Folk Haven and explains a little more about "monsters." We're continuing to enjoy these low-key but nicely sexy PNRs!

This objective review is based on a complimentary copy of the novel.

This was a cute and low angst siren/selkie romance set in a small town called Folk Haven. It got the cozy vibes just right and had likeable characters, so I’m not sure why I didn’t connect with it more? I enjoyed Seamus and Neri’s dynamic, but maybe there was a touch more push-and-pull than I’d like. Or maybe it was the random chapter about the couple from the first book. Or maybe it was just my mood. 🤷‍♀️

WOW!

I'm not gonna lie. I did not have high expectations for this. I feel like the first novel in this series was very fluffy and romantic, which is exactly what I was looking for. Almost even insta-love. I loved Calder and Delta and Gigabyte in Book 1, but it felt more like a carefree read and that's honestly what I was expecting out of this one, but WOW!! I have been blown out of the water.

The romantic development in this book is sooooo good. I don't know what it was, maybe it was the enemies to lovers aspect. The smut was epic. Seamus was so sexy. I loved the main character! She wasn't whiney, but also not too tough where it doesn't seem real. I loved reading about the history of how Lake Galen was created and the institutionalized racism (species-ism??). I love how all of my favorite characters thought Pamela was a twat. Because she was. It was developed really well and I hope we see some of the strict living barriers come down in the upcoming books. I've been really curious about the monsters, so I'm very excited to read Moira and Levi's story.

And can we talk about the grand gesture at the end!!! He totally pulled a Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. This man saw the error in his ways and mentality. He corrected it and showed what he learned. And he is willing to do whatever it takes to be with Neri. Ah. Seamus is amazing! I didn't think I would end up loving him so much since I was honestly whatever about his brother, Calder (I know I said I loved him but not in a romantic sense LOL). But I love the whole bookish nerdy professor vibe he has going. Ah. Def 10/10 recommend.

Seamus and Neri . . .

Seamus MacNamara is a siren who doesn’t believe in fated mates and the stories about a rescue. When the barista he has been flirting with has to perform the Heimlich to rescue him when he choked on a cookie, he was a bit flustered.

Neri Onassis couldn’t understand why the handsome man freaked out when she tried to help him? Oh well, she is here to start her life over and figure things out. The grouchy man doesn’t deserve her attention. But why can’t she get him off her mind?

I have to admit, I didn't enjoy this book nearly as much as the others in the series. I found the love interest rather irritating, and a lot of ideas could've been expanded on.

Neri is so utterly annoying. Sure, her mate kind of freaked out when he realised they were fated, but she was a bit of a bitch and from that point forward was just annoying. When she uses her wings, the first thing she does is demand him to touch her - after she repeatedly doesn't want him near her and refused to be with him. Sure, he was more than willing, but seriously? Mixed messages much? And the next day she dismisses it as casual sex, KNOWING that he had feelings of sorts for her. I don't care if she had a messed-up background - that's just cruel.

Talking about that background, where is it? We hear bits and pieces but she never actually faces it. After being told for 25 years to hide her siren nature, she is almost afraid of using her wings. But as soon as she uses them, everything is fine and she's happy with herself? That is not at all how a normal person would react - where's the fear or nervousness once she actually uses them again? Why isn't she afraid of what others think of her? I know these are negative things, but they're natural after hiding your true self for your whole life. But Neri just accepts it and is somehow perfectly fine with who she is.

I did enjoy reading this book, and it certainly gave heaps of information about the world, but I couldn't really enjoy the romance element. The male love interest is great (other than the freak-out near the beginning), but Neri.... utterly annoying.

I wanted to love this, and until the part where they got together I did! The writing was phenomenal, Seamus was hilariously adorable and I shipped them so much.
And then the second they got to together the story just lost all pace, plot and sense.
They became whiny and so far from their original selves to try and give this book a plot of them falling out when they had nothing to fight over. The author started adding in random chapters for other characters in the series that didn't pertain to their story at all or add new information. And the lack of plot meant each page dragged slowly.
I thought we'd get some amazing found family moments, some further character development and maybe stretch out their relationship dynamics a bit, but none of that. It just fell so flat and I was so disappointed cause I adored Seamus at the start, he was the perfect mix of cocky and but babbling fool.

I’ve very much enjoyed all the entries in the Folk Haven series so far. It’s pretty low-key paranormal romance, with just the right levels of steam, angst and secondary plots.

Neri thinks that Seamus may have been flirting with her while ordering coffee every day, and maybe she did a little flirting back, but when she saves him from choking on a cookie, all of a sudden he starts freaking out about “fated mates,” whatever that is. Sure, she may not know much about mythics – even her own heritage – but the last thing she wants right now is someone else trying to tell her what to do. Newly arrived to town, she’s still trying to figure out life so a relationship is definitely not in the cards, even if she can’t stop thinking about the weird guy. Seamus can’t stop thinking about her either, even though he has zero interest in a fated match. Their chemistry doesn’t seem to care whether the gods or involved or not, so should they?

“She always told me I should pretend to be normal.”
“That’s not normal.” Moira scowls. “That’s ordinary. You being who you are is normal. Everyone has a different version, so no one is wrong.”

I liked Neri immediately. Raised by her siren mother and human father, her parents have encouraged her to fit seamlessly into the human world. After going along with all her parents’ choices for most of her life, the final straw is when they start planning her wedding with her human boyfriend – without asking her input. She accepts her cousin Sonya’s invitation to come stay with her in Folk Haven and maybe start learning something about her siren heritage. It’s been twenty-five years since she used her siren powers, as her mother told her that since a siren didn’t need to use her wings or song, it would be selfish to not try to fit in with humans. She has barely any knowledge of her own heritage and even less about other mythics. But that doesn’t stop her from moving to Folk Haven, and trying to learn more, even if she’s initially intimidated by the other sirens. I was impressed by Neri’s braveness and her unwillingness to compromise or change herself to fit others ever again.

“You came here to apologize. And the second I let you off the hook, you think it’s a good idea to insult my book. Does that sound about right?”

In contrast, it took a bit for Seamus to grow on me. He’s a professor at the local university and definitely fits all those stereotypes to a tee, including a tendency to be a bit of a wet blanket. He especially couldn’t seem to stop putting his foot in his mouth around Neri! But Seamus has his own reasons for being wary of anything that looks like a fated match, and he’s genuinely apologetic every time he realizes he messed up, but what really sold me on him? The fact that he invites Neri over to read in his ginormous library any time she wants, which frankly sounds like a good basis for a relationship to me! Once they decide to give each other a chance, they realize that despite getting off on the wrong foot, they have a lot in common. They both want to be in control of their own lives, whether that’s choosing their own romantic partners or exploring their mythic heritage. They’re sweet (and very hot) together, though Neri still has reservations about how Seamus will react if their burgeoning relationship runs into any sort of problems.

“Money is power, and power is freedom. No siren will ever let another be chained again.”

I loved the cameos from previous couples and the rest of Seamus’s family. I also loved Sonya, Neri’s cousin, and the rest of the sirens. Under the guise of Neri’s general lack of knowledge about her heritage, we get a lot more backstory about Folk Haven. It used to be the home of The Collector, an evil sorcerer, who trapped various mythics to steal their power. Galen, a siren, finally succeeded in freeing herself and the others, and the Collector’s former home was flooded to clear the area of its toxic magic, forming Lake Galen. The Gauntlet, a sort of obstacle course set up by the sirens and witches every two years to honor Galen. Areas around the lake were granted to each group of mythics, with bylaws set up to keep each group (“of the Fin”, “of the Air”, etc) in their own section, which the northern side reserved for “monsters,” the children from the unions of two different mythic species. That’s just one of the problems facing a relationship between a selkie and a siren, but while there are some traditionalists, there’s also a group of folks, like Moira, who think the rules are outdated and wrong. Which is a nice segue into the next book, which will star Moira and her love interest, a (gasp) monster!

“You just awkwardly stumbled your way into trouble, and I dived in to help because I was a decent person and I couldn’t let such a sexy professor die on my watch.”

Overall, while this isn’t my favorite of the series, I loved Neri and I liked learning more about Folk Haven and the mythics who live there (plus the quick nod to Beverly Jenkins!). I can’t wait to read Moira’s book!

i’ve been looking for the download for this book months ago and when i’m looking for the authors new book all a sudden i find it like the world hates me fr. but i read it bc i’m in a slump and it’s just what i need a short cutesies little fantasy romance like fantasy is good when the word building and magic system is self explanatory or explained along the way fr like i dont have the best knowledge of it it’s probably better explained in the first book and i skipped to the second one but it’s still comprehensible like i understand what’s going on and all that. i just love books where the main characters are also book lovers bc i can be like same were so similar fr. this had a cute little enemies to lovers very small enemies to lovers tho w why they don’t like each other bc the main guy doesn’t know how to talk around people that’s the real problem but he makes up for it at the end bc he’s so sweet and considerate pls he entered this competition for the main girl and actually won it to show that he would face any challenge for her and then he left for a week just so he could go to a book store and read a bunch of romance novels to give her the treatment she deserves in these novels bc he made judged her at first seeing her read romance and now he’s like i take that back there’s sm more to it than fluff it’s sweet. but the beginning yikes like his character is awkward but endearing i liked his character a lot but just every time he opens his mouth like his brain and mouth don’t connect and he says a bunch of rude shit not meaning to but also how did you get there yk. i mean i get the reason why he first snapped at the main girl bc of the fated mates thing from saving one from an accident ruining one of his friends life but he’s not her and he knows that fates don’t control him and shit but eh i’ll excuse him ig. the main girl i love like every time the main guy messes up she makes him work for it as she should fr like she got a backbone and i enjoyed reading her own situation w moving into this mythic safe area where she doesn’t have to hide her true nature like she did at home w family. the adjustment was connected w her relationship bc she wants to find somewhere to belong and all that but she thinks that things shouldn’t be easy if she wants something which is why the argument her and main guy had before the competition was her being upset that he called them being together simple and easy bc she feels like he wouldn’t fight for her but then her cousin offers her something she wants and she gets upset that choosing to make this decision is easy and makes her feel like she’s back w her parents but her cousin is like it doesn’t matter as long as ur decision is making u happy and shit and that got her realizing that she does wanna be w main guy. little too late tho bc he entered the comp for her #truelove fr. but it’s a lot of cute fluff in here i enjoy the dynamic of the main couple like they don’t always gotta be talking to each other their company is enough to comfort them which is why he invites her to his library so she reads while he grades and shit like that he’s a professor btw it fits his personality a lot fr. something about a man who’s lowkey submissive and a more dominating female lead just gets me like it’s reparations fr. but the author sets up the next book good bc now i wanna read it as she added a chapter w the main guy’s sister and her little enemies to lovers tension w this other guy in the comp and i was like bro their chemistry is so good i’m reading it next like yk me i’m a big enemies to lovers girly. yeah just something about this author book always hit for me fr i really enjoyed the fantasy aspect of the book and the lore that comes with it like the origin of the lake and then the songcaster or whatever girly idk i just like little fantasy history it gets me hooked fr. but yeah cutesies book i really enjoyed it i’ll give it a 8.5/10.

Note - I received a digital arc of this book for free ; a courtesy of Book Sirens on the basis of which this review has been posted voluntarily. This is an honest opinion of mine.

Rating - 5 stars

Disclaimer - This book contains scenes with choking, violence, unhealthy parental relationships as well as discussions of captivity, abuse, manipulative relationships, and sexual assault.

Before I elaborate further, I would really like to thank Book Sirens for a chance to review this book and author Lauren Connolly for penning down such an amazing story.

To sum up in a line - Sucker for a Siren ; authored by Lauren Connolly is another simply a short sweet mythical read with a mild sprinkle of mystery that totally lives up to its name with a strong dosage of steamy sensual romantic scenes that all die hard romantic fans will totally love. This is the 2nd book in the Folk Haven Series. Book 1 - Seduced by a Selkie is a must read if you are to get a perfect context of this story and the character development.

Set in the fictional town of Folk Haven - a small town known for being home to residents of mythical origin, protagonist Neri Onassis has come to town to get as far as possible from her parents and her ex after a major drama. Working as a coffee barista, she encounters Seamus - Calder 's brother as a regular customer. A strong chemistry is evident within the duo with flirting in progress however however all hell breaks loose when Seamus ends up getting a Heimlich when a cookie goes down the wrong pipe by Neri. For someone like Seamus who does not believe in fate or the Selkie mate lore - this was too much to take in. And for someone like Neri who has never being allowed the opportunity to embrace her mythical side and who just broke up with her bf due to this whole idea of her parents that it is perfect or normal - Seamus's attitude was overwhelming to her.

But when paths keep crossing, how will they manage to control the growing attraction between them when they cant decide whether it is fate or love that is bringing them together more than necessary. How they shall overcome the barriers or will they - That is what the entire story is all about.

The entire book followed a clear narrative with minimal errors. The leads were an absolute absolutely a treat to read. Mild profanity is there and the sexual content isn't too OTT. This is simply a fabulous multi time read for all those die hard romance fans aged 18+. I absolutely loved the growing mystery building up amidst all the steamy romances. Book 1 fans will definitely enjoy reading a bit of Calder and Delta's relationship status and some romance between the duo as well !! Yet again mysteries that are to be resolved remain which I presume will be dealt with in the next sequel hopefully. Seriously looking forward to read the next one in this series !!

The more of this series I read, the more I fall in love with the paranormal town of Folk Haven and the various supernaturals living there. I enjoyed this book even more than the first as the author is expanding her world a bit, adding in some more world building, and continues to write engaging romances between genuinely nice characters who respect each other.

This book featured Seamus, older brother to Calder from Seduced by a Selkie. Unlike Calder, Seamus doesn't believe in the lore that a selkie will know their mate when the other person saves their life. Therefore, when the cute new barista in town who he's been attracted to saves him from choking in the coffee shop, he's horrified, immediately rejecting the idea that she might be his fated mate and running out the door without even thanking her. Neri, a siren, who was raised to repress her siren nature, moved to Folk Haven for a new start and to reclaim her magic. She thought the cute, slightly awkward university professor had been flirting with her, so she's pretty thrown for a loop when he rudely rejects her after she performs a Heimlich on him.

After the fact, Seamus realizes that he may have ruined the most important relationship in his life before it ever got off the ground. Will he be able to salvage it? Will Neri give him a second chance? (Hint, Neri is a bookworm and Seamus not only has the library of her dreams, but he starts reading romance just so he can talk books with her, so it's a pretty fair bet that he will succeed.)

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This second book in Lauren Connolly's Folk Haven series was one I was looking forward to with high hopes. The world building that started in book one, Seduced by a Selkie, was enjoyable even though it felt shallow due to the books rather short length. I had hoped that the issue would be resolved with the inclusion of this second book. Unfortunately, not only does this book have the same lack of depth, but the first half of the book made me dislike some characters whom were portrayed as positive, likeable people in Seduced by a Selkie. To me, that goes back to the issue of lack of depth, because obviously I don't have a real perspective on who the characters are. Don't get me wrong, the book is fairly entertaining. It just feels very much like a novella that would go between two full books in a series that had already developed characters. If you are familiar with Lauren Connolly's style and enjoy it, then absolutely you should pick this one up. However, if you aren't a particular fan of the genre, there are deeper and more engaging books out there. I don't regret my time spent reading this, but I also wouldn't go out of my way to read it either. I would consider this a pleasant light read for someone who wants a quick story for a bit of entertainment but also doesn't have the time to commit to a book with more content.

Liked it

A short, light, & fun supernatural romance where a selkie and a siren fall into insta-lust, but they must each get over the scars of their past relationships in order to embrace their new relationship together. The heroine, near 30 siren Neri Onasis, has just left the life her parents made for her where they controlled everything from her boyfriend to her job. The hero, 32-year-old selkie Seamus MacNamara, is a professor at the local college who is fine with dating as long as fate has nothing to do with it. When fate gives them a sign that they're fated mates he reacts poorly, very poorly.

Overall an enjoyable read with humor and lust along the way to the HEA. While not necessary to read the previous book in the series, Seduced by a Selkie, it helped to have a grip on the MacNamara siblings already. While the previous book just hinted at the characters in the next book, this book had a section from the POV of the heroine of book 1, as well as the characters I assume will be the hero & heroine of book 3.

I loved this 2nd book in the Folk Haven series. Seamus MacNamara is a nerdy professor who does not believe is fated mates. Neri Onassis is a Siren who wants to be free and is not looking for any relationship. Fated mates state that if someone saves your life they are your fated mate. The problem is Neri saves Seamus from choking to death in the coffee shop where she works and Seamus tells everyone loudly that they are not fated mates. But Seamus was specifically going to that coffee shop just to see Neri. This makes for the hilarious and sad entanglement of Seamus trying to get back on track because he realizes Neri is it for him fated mates be damned. This is a well written, witty, fun love story set in Folk Haven where all mythical creatures are free to live their lives with humans and other monsters. The characters are all well developed, you love them all and are rooting for them and the steamy parts are hot! I love the characters you meet and they seem so real. Seamus and Neri are great together and have wonderful chemistry as they get to know each other. Loved this book and look forward to the next in the series.

{{I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.}}

Another refreshing installment from Lauren Connolly in this selkie driven series. It's so difficult to find a good, well-written paranormal romance that isn't heavy or relying on the threat of violence of some sort, but this one was exactly the opposite. Yes, there are some moments where you are thrown for a loop and it does center itself around the same "Fated Mates" theme as the previous book, but in a totally unique and different perspective.

As Neri and Seamus grow as characters, the story grows with them and it gets so much deeper than just a basic dance of wooing and courting. Their romance draws on that deep seated urge to find someone who will, for lack of better word, admire you like you're an all you can eat 5-star sushi buffet and the whole bar is held on reservation just for them. That animalistic urge for a partner whose soul motivation is to make you happy, something that it seems like this series is absolutely full of, is definitely played out well in this book. And I truly can't wait to read the next one.

Paranormal, small town, fated mates, enemies-to-lovers, grumpy/sunshine, witty banter/funny dialogue (tho sometimes cringey), nerdy book loving MCs,

So disappointing compared to the first. There is way too much going on in this book: the mate plot, Neri’s midlife crisis, the Gauntlet games, and the mystery bad guy creature. This book doesn’t know what it’s trying to be, and the writing style is unbearably cheesy sometimes. It just makes me cringe.

Both these characters are idiots. The plot feels so forced, making mountains out of mole hills constantly. Ever since her wings popped out, Neri has been behaving like a bratty, horny, idiotic teenager and I am not here for it. Her freak out made no sense. She practically mauled Seamus. He was trying to hold himself back. She is projecting all her baggage onto him, and while he initially did the same, he at least realized what he was doing and was apologetic. Neri just doubled down on bitchiness and blamed everything on Seamus. But apparently she loves him?!? Honestly it seems like she loved his library & books more than him. And Seamus is just a grump who turned into a brainless simp.

I had to push to get through this one.

Things I liked were the intricacies of this town full of mystical creatures as well as the variety of creatures. The plot is set to explore monsters in future books, which could be interesting. The lore is creative and thorough. Seamus had a sweet romantic gesture at the end. The gauntlet had some creative obstacles.

Things I didn’t like - Neri, the FMC. I couldn’t even tell if she actually loved Seamus except for the fact that she was saying that she did and she watched him during the gauntlet. The author illustrated her as having avoidant attachment, which makes sense with regard to growing up with a cold mother. So it’s no wonder Neri pulled away from Seamus. But she had such a bitchy attitude and the 3rd act breakup was so over the top. Seamus definitely put his foot in his mouth in the beginning but damn she didn’t really give the guy a break and seemed like she wanted to be combative. There were break-in moments of random characters like Moira and Delta, and I did like Delta. I didn’t read the first book which is Delta’s story but now I want to.

Loved this PNR!!

The first book book in this series drew me in and this one made me fall even more in love with this paranormal world. I totally want to move to Folk Haven now!!!

This is Seamus and Neri's story. Seamus is a Selkie and being with your own kind is what is done until his brother found his other half in a dragon. Now Seamus is enamored with Neri who is a Siren but grew up with parents who wanted her to forget her heritage. To try to win her heart, he joins as a contestant in Galens Gauntlet. This book has so many ups and downs for their relationship, but true love prevails!!!

Also i cannot wait to read the next book in the story with Moira (another Selkie) and Levi (one of the "monsters"). I really want to find out what his heritage really is!!!

Great story, great plot, great characters!! Definitely a 5 star read!!

Okay, so I'm a sucker for small paranormal town PNR series, I know it, and I need a meeting for my addiction. That being said, I adored this book! Folk Haven is my newest find in small town paranormal villages with a quaint coffee bar, creatures of all types and plenty of romance. Oh, how I wish these places were real and I could go live in one. Anyways, Seamus is a selkie whos isn't too into all the myth surrounding his legacy. Neri is a siren who has a bit of a crush but she isn't jumping too high to be with Seamus. That all changes when she saves his life. This book is great. The romance is quirky and fun and has charm that engages the reader enough that you feel like you're being courted by Seamus too. The characters are well fleshed-out and complete. The world is full and the town feels real. I can't wait to visit again!

I love Lauren's books, and I love the Folk Haven setting. Galen's Gauntlet sounds really cool, and it was SUPER cool to learn more about the founding of the mythic town and why some of the borders exist as they do.

However, I do not do well with a miscommunication/lack of communication conflict. Whether that be to each other or to themselves. And unfortunately, in this book, the miscommunications were RAMPANT. Neither of these people knew their own minds for the first 50% of the book and it was hard for me to get through.

I do get that they each had their own bad experiences to work through and without conflict I wouldn't be happy either. But man, it's just unfortunate that this was my least favorite trope because I love Seamus so much!! Nerdy hot professor?! Sign me up.

All told, I still can't wait for Moira and Owen's books!!

Quasi starchy selkie professor meets firebrand siren barista and it goes horribly. The setup for this relationship has Seamus putting his foot in his mouth repeatedly, and righteously pissing off Neri. He rejects the idea of fated mates, and when she saves his life, he treats her terribly from a place of fear. Then every time he tries to apologize he makes it worse. Luckily, a library is the key to Neri's heart, so there is full on library porn happening here and he woos her little by little after he gets out of his own head and realizes that he wants her, fated mates or not.

These books have just the right amount of spice for me, some fun world building, and a great small town setting. I love getting to know more about all the shifters and monsters in Folk Haven, and I'm gonna blast through the whole series before I come up for air.

Seamus is determined that he isn’t going to fall for the “”fated” mate stuff. Neri isn’t even looking for anyone. She’s trying to learn more about sirens since her mother refused to let her behave like one. There are parts of the book that are silly and others where Neri discovers that Folk Haven is segregated by type of mythic and “monsters” are at the bottom of the town’s social and political structures. (The book is NOT preachy.)

The MC’s are both fighting their attraction for different reasons but they come together (HEA) in a good, slow build romance.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author through BookSirens and was under no obligation to leave a favorable review. All opinions are my own.

Loved this book! Neri had a siren mother and human father and was raised to live among humans. Her mother taught her to stifle her siren, and her parents were trying to push her into an arranged marriage. Neri has moved to Folk Haven to stay with her cousin. She wants to learn about her mythic side and find herself. Neri works as a barista at her cousin’s coffee shop. Seamus is a selkie shifter. He’s a nerdy professor at the small college outside town that caters to mythics. Seamus finds himself enamored of Neri. Seamus’ awkwardness and rejection of the idea of “fated mates” keeps sabotaging a possible romance. This story was well written and extremely entertaining. Highly recommended! 4.5 stars! This series is just so good. Sucker for a Siren is a well-written, funny, small-town PNR romance. Neri has such an interesting journey to go on. She is discovering herself by digging into her roots and advocating for herself. Seamus was a funny character. I loved watching him get over himself. Neri and Seamus are dynamic and intriguing together and apart. There is great character development and more world-building. It gives a deeper dive into the history of Folk Haven and the shifters within the town. This book made me laugh a lot; I still giggle thinking of different quotes.

This is a multiple POV book like the first one. I thought the switches between POV were natural and interesting. While both books are about fated mates, they are very different experiences.

Loved this book, cannot recommend picking up this series enough.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first one.

SUCKER FOR A SIREN is lighthearted and cute, but that's also the problem with it. I feel like a series would have a bit more depth to it, between the worldbuilding and the characters, but it felt a little...bland, for a paranormal romance. If that makes any sense.

I was also caught unawares by the random pov-switch to a couple of side characters (Delta and then Seamus' sister) for no reason. I wasn't expecting it and I thought Delta's story left the limelight at the end of her book, but she reappeared for a scene or two, and I didn't particularly care for that.

I received a free ARC and am leaving a voluntary and honest review.

(actually 2.5 stars)

While this book was cute and enjoyable, it lacked the intrigue of the first book. Seamus is annoyingly dense and kept sticking his foot in his mouth, and they waited until the epilogue to continue the storyline left over from book one aside from backstory on the collector, who may or may not be behind all of this.

I hope three brings more emphasis on the collector story and the creatures thieving mythic items.

But I did fine Seamus and Neri cute, when he wasn't being a jackass. Also the hints of future couples, like Tanvi and Xavier have me 👀👀. I'm definitely going to keep reading, just hopefully they actually start putting more focus on the overlapping story, rather than the romances and mating.

I don't usually read fantasy because of too many 'ok' shifter stories. But I really like this author and her writing so I thought I'd try this one.
The characters are OK. The story was too silly, too lighthearted and bland for me. The whole bit about Seamus trying to be a 'thirst trap' to entice Neri, and his brothers trying to help him, was silly.
Neri knows little about being a 'mythic', so people have to teach her. I found all those explanations about the Lake and the territories, Galen's song, The Collector, The Council, etc., tedious and too long, so I skipped ahead. I don't really care about them.
Why the POV shifts in to Darla and Moira except to set up future books?
I won't read more of this series.

great book, quick & fun read. just like book 1.
Neri is a siren meaning that she's a humanoid with angelic wings and can sing breath taking songs that no one can remember the lyrics to. Seamus is a selkie who's got issues with having a 'fated mate'. Their romance is slower burn than the previous book in this series, primarily because Seamus is fighting his idea of his 'fated mate' and Neri isn't about to chase after a jerk! And i really get Neri at that point.
I wouldn't chase after a compleet jerk either!
You get some more background information in this book and i liked that!
