It's Halloween, and Rosemary and her friends were expecting nothing more than fun and games—certainly not murder! This time, Rosemary and Max have to work together—but will their budding relationship survive a homicide at Halloween?
Emily Queen is a writer of historical fiction, including the Mrs. Lillywhite Investigates cozy mystery series. She lives in Maine, USA with her cat, dog, and too many books to count. Oh, and if you’re not careful, she might kill you off in one of her novels…
I found this to be an interesting premise--a detective and an amateur sleuth at a murder mystery house party (did they really even have those events in the 1920s?) Still, I can't say the story was outstanding. I got a bit weary of the main character's (a grown woman, a widow) almost teenage angst and constant dithering about whether her detective lover was losing interest. The characters were all a bit two-dimensional, without any real substance. In the end, the whole book seemed a pretty clear homage to the movie "Clue" (right down to a butler named Wadsworth), which was entertaining, but not enough to keep me from a bit of boredom as the book wore on. As a matter of fact, I think I'll delete the novel from my Kindle and just go roust out and watch my DVD of the original "Clue".
I’ve been following Ms Queen in real time since the publication of her first book, and in my opinion, this is by far her best.
Utilizing the complicated plot structure described in the book’s description, we are led - or rather, misled - into a number of plot twists, introduced to multi-layered characters - who may or may not be who they profess to be - and challenged to engage in the weekend’s romp and try to solve it before Rosemary and Max do.
I enjoyed the experience immensely, but I would recommend that the work be read very carefully, as it is rich with clues and red herrings.
Murder Mystery Weekend! From first reading about Rosemary I have been hooked and this much anticipated contusion did not disappoint. Rosemary and Max are whisked away for a fun Agatha Christie sequel murder mystery weekend. Well you can guess what happens if tou have read anything Agatha Christie….murder!!! Who is going to solve the murder. I will say that the relationship drama in this book is a little overdone and dramatic. Overall and interesting read. A review copy was sent to me by the author. All opinions are my own.
Whodunit It's Halloween, and Rosemary and her friends were expecting nothing more than fun and games—certainly not murder! This time, Rosemary and Max have to work together—but will their budding relationship survive a homicide at Halloween? It was a fake murder mystery. The culprit was hard to guess. I borrowed this book from KindleUnlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book.
In A Homicide at Halloween, lady sleuth Rosemary Lillywhite and her boyfriend Detective Maximillian Whittington attend a murder mystery weekend at Ravenstone Castle. Rosemary's sister-in-law Vera is part of the immersive theater experience. While at the castle they will be part of the performance and interact with the actors. I struggled a little trying to keep all the characters and their actions straight. I enjoyed most of the book but found the ending a bit confusing.
Fun Halloween read. I always love a murder in a castle with Lords and Ladies et al. It’s unfortunate that this story didn’t actually have a murder. What a missed opportunity to have a real murder at a murder mystery weekend in a castle. I know it’s been done so many times lol. The characters that weren’t involved in putting on the event had dialogue that was so serious when trying to solve the “murder” that it became a bit silly. All that said, it was a seasonal enjoyable read.

I liked thd idea of Rosemary and Max trying to solve a fake murder. What i didn't care for was the emotional 'he love me, he loves me not' taking up so much space. The monkey added some humor and kept everyone distracted from solving the mystery. This one is interesting, but not as good as previous ones.
Some parts were a bit confusing maybe because there were so many characters. But it was good though some characters were left unexplained. Anyway I always enjoy Mrs. Lilliwhite stories. But apparently we will have to wait a long time for the next one.
The constant repetition became exhausting. The first time I've read one of EO's books and I believe it will be my last. But to each his own! Read it to find out what you think.
A murder that is not a murder... Or was it? A group of guests for a weekend at a castle. A body on a staircase! Clues all over the place. Part of the guest are actors! Bet you can't solve all the mysteries.
I enjoyed this story. The characters were quite interesting and fascinating to "watch". The plot is easily followed, and the premise is finding out who was killed and why. The answers were logical and forthright. I definitely recommend this book.
A different premise than I’m accustomed to. I found it a little difficult to follow all the various characters and their actions in regards to the story.
