While I really appreciated the much-needed sex ed bit, I just can't with the beauty contest poor Ohmi is entered in. He doesn't want to do it, so people need to stop pressuring him, and that they instead kept pressuring him really soured the book for me.
Still cute and fun, but I was rankled a bit that there’s this undertone that sex should only be for the purpose of marriage and “making a family.” I thought Japan was starting to move past that mindset.
On one hand, I get that this is a shoujo series and the editors feel responsible for their audience when approaching sensitive topics like sex. However, if the only acceptable way is to do it in such an old-fashioned and sexist manner, I rather they don't talk about it at all. On top of that, this beauty contest arc irks me to no end. Ohmi clearly feels uncomfortable and is going through with it just to please Ellie. It's treated as a romantic moment which doesn't sit well with me.
Ellie's fantasies went a lot overboard in this volume, but I'm glad Omi was patient with her and managed to control it. Gotta be grateful for Ellie's talk with Omi's aunt too about how in the end, sex is about building a family. Sure, it's something lovers would do, but I hate how sex is being glorified these days without any boundaries. They're young teenagers, it's a given they're curious about it, but they're surrounded with responsible adults so they're able to learn things responsibly too.
From the previous volume, I was worried Ellie would get hurt by any of Omi's fans, but surprisingly nothing terrible happened. Instead, more people are recognising Ellie's worth so I'm very happy for her.
This series is so comforting, I could read about Ellie and Ohmi all day honestly. I love that Ellie is so passionate about the sports day. It's nice seeing her with other interests sometimes.
However, this volume gets a slightly lower rating, because of the weird sentiment that sex is purely for "making a family". I think it's odd for such a sex positive series to push that sort of ideology. Not everyone wants to have children, and that needs to be normalized more. I wish we could've focused more on how misinformed Ellie was on what sex is and how it works. Too many teens know so little about that, or how to be safe. It could've made for a nice bonding moment for Ellie and Ohmi too.
Rant aside, I still adore this series, and I can't wait to see the drama unfold between Sara and Senpai in the next volume!
continues to be cute and hilarious...but I had to take off an entire star because of the unnecessary and outdated ideal that sex is to 'build a family' and 'carry on your legacy'. it seemed SO out of place, considering the rest of the series has been so sex-positive...? not everyone can or wants to have kids, and sex can be for pleasure. it was such a strange message to suddenly bring in.
aside from that, the series is clearly beginning to wrap up...ellie and ohmi are established in their relationship and are now beginning to grow and change as characters, so their final conflict seems to be focused on their fear of growing apart/one leaving the other behind. I'm skeptical of this silly 'beauty' contest that ohmi is in...but we'll see lol.
next volume...the sara and takagi drama comes to a head!

I must be in a DNFing mood. 😅 Got midway through this volume (to chapter 35) and realized this series isn’t bringing me joy anymore. Had the 1-2 punch of an older female character advising our protagonist “at the end of the day, sex is for building a family!” sex negative framing in the series that is ostensibly about how it’s okay for teen girls to be horny, and THEN we got a whole confession scene to her boyfriend about how she doesn’t just love him sexually or romantically (hadn’t we already covered this?) and it splashes across the screen “Ellie has been freed from the chains of lust and discovered true love!”??? (ʘ‿ʘ✿)
The one standout factor in this series was that it let the main character be horny—and was mostly positive about her being horny, which was refreshing—so I don’t know why we’re throwing that all away now to be a more generic school romance. Whatever, I’m out.
4.5 Stars This was such an interesting start with Eriko's worries and making Akira worried about what was actually going on. The little chat that Eriko had with Yuri was so nice and enlightening, it really help Eriko see another perspective and sense. Eriko and Akira were so cute together and the hotest boy contest was such a hilarious plot twist. The dram that is about to happen with Reo and Sara will be very interesting to read about and see what all happens. The story was so fun and great, this installment really added so much to the story. The way the miscommunication was fix was brilliant, but it was hilarious to see another miscommunication pop up. This was so worth the read and so enjoyable.

In this volume, Ellie-chan's dad catches her and Omi-kun kissing and is furious and loud. He and Ellie get into this huge fight because he still sees her as his little girl and because she is too similar in personality to him which has him worried. Both of them have trouble expressing all their feeling and some things come up that she has bottled up for a while. But Omi-kun is there to help her see how much her dad loves her and encourage her to have an honest talk with him.
More of a 3.5 star rating; I’m very cautious going into this next volume due to this ridiculous contest. It’s gradually becoming clear that Omi-kun and Ellie are having (different) insecurities that either connect with or have revealed themselves due to this contest. I’m worried that something else can happen to cause a rift in their relationship.
Oh, Ellie, you remain so precious to me! This was another cute volume, with a notable exception. It's always so frustrating how conservative Japan is, and even though the series has been stellar in displaying sex positivity, it then becomes super weird to have "sex is ultimately to have a family" be said in such a factual way.
I think at this point Ellie and Ohmi’s relationship is starting to settle on the story and is starting to open up other side romances that we have been rooting for, I find that so exciting and I can’t wait!
I cannot believe there is only 3 more volumes left I want to cry T^T
What a way to end this volume! I can’t wait to see what happens with Sara-Chan! I am now 100% invested in her relationship. Also Ohmi really coming out of shell and doing this comp is giving me second hand embarrassment. Poor thing.
Back up to the hilarity I love so much about this series! Ellie’s antics and learning about sex is so funny. The running late glasses scene is so cute (and I love the panel of other passengers’s reactions).
