Ten years later, Kate Mason receives a text from her dead son....
Kate's husband and her six-year-old son died in a train collision. Burying herself in work, she became one of the most proficient in her career. Therapy, meditation, yoga, traveling and bitter pills never helped, though. Her capacity to love — even herself — shrunk to nothingness.
All until she meets Jason Ross, a younger man who lost his wife and daughter on the same train.
A year later, Kate is ready to re-marry and move on, only to receive a text from her missing son on her wedding night. A text that ONLY Kate, her deceased husband, and now seventeen-year-old boy, would understand.
Following the clues back to that day she lost them, Kate will stop at nothing to find out if her family is still alive. She digs deeper into what happened, only to find her view about the people she loves and the society she lives in —and Jason Ross — shattered to pieces...
* Runaway Train is a psychological page turner with a conclusion that will leave you speechless. Based on a true, continuous and unsolved crime, and facts the media wouldn't address, the story goes far beyond the common tropes of thrillers. * Runaway Train will return to normal price upon release date.
Ember Blake is the pseudonym of author Cameron Jace who is known for fairy tale retellings but has taken on a whole new genre under this name. A mother who loses everything must figure out who she can trust as she tries to figure out why she lost everything and if everything is truly lost. The dynamic characters are well written and make you invest emotionally in their journey as well as the outcome. The plot that is inspired by true events gets your mind thinking about all the people you know and how much you can really trust them. It took me for a thrilling ride. I voluntarily reviewed an advance readers copy of this book.
The story line has some potential however was sloppily developed. The story starts with a fictional country, Najimbia. The name is too close to the actual country, Namibia which shares no similarity and is a distraction. The main character is either, crying, sobbing or shedding tears practically every other page making her weak and unlikeable. The storyline gets rather convoluted and so unrealistic I had a hard time finishing the book.
I was so excited about this book coming out. I thought it sounded so exciting and interesting, I was wrong. I found the story to be way to unrealistic and the characters were very unlikeable
Struggled from the offset with this book. Stuck with it thinking /hoping it would get better……. Wrong…… it was confusing and badly written. The story was all over the place and even at the end I had no idea who was the good bad or ugly!! I never normally write reviews about books, but felt I had to about this dreadful one even if it stops one person wasting hours in their life they won’t get back!
This book, in no way, was how or what I thought it was going to be . I must say though, I really enjoyed it. There are certain places in the story ( mostly 80% in) where you really need to pay attention to what is going on. While I understood what the author was saying, I didn't understand the reasoning for it in this day and age. I actually learned something new that I had no idea about. The fact that it is based on true events really adds an element of mystery to it. I think the author could have helped us figure the mom out a bit more but maybe she was meant to be such a mystery. I did really like it and will definitely read another book by this author in the future. Quick read, finished in one day over Easter break. Should you decide to try it I say Enjoy!
I found this to be the best book I have read in a long time (and I read a lot)...... I'll be looking out for more by this author and already downloaded the child in cabin 13! The writing was brilliant and my review does not do it justice. The storyline thrilling and made all the more scary as it's based on a true story. Pacing was spot on and to honest I couldn't out it down. Read in one sitting. Need to see it played out on the big screen next. I'll be first in the cinema queue.
I started this book with a bit of reluctance as I really struggled with the first book I read from Ember Blake. While I enjoyed this one a little more I still found it frustrating to read with the grammar errors (may seem me being pernickety but I don’t understand how a book can get to print with spelling and grammar errors….) I also just found it too far fetched in places. Maybe this author is just not for me - rounded up to 3 stars but probably 2.5
Fantastic read by this author!! Richly developed characters drive this story which is based on true events. The plotline keeps you in the edge of your seat and guessing the whole way through the book.
The depth of description of the characters and action in this book help to drive the story and keep you turning the page. Brilliant work!!!
So, I don't mind a good rousing mystery, complete with plenty of adventure and a cast of characters. This book felt like I was on a goose chase and kept running in circles. The plot certainly isn't predictable, which kept me reading. It did keep me in a state of anxiety that made it difficult to truly enjoy the book. Maybe that was the point?
Although there were times that Kate made me mad I understood where she was coming from! I wish i could elaborate but then i would tell some secrets. If you love suspense thrillers, yelling at the book then this is for you. I hope there's a part two cuz Baby I need a part Two.
Gripping read, I was hooked. I only had issue with grammar and spelling mistakes as there were a few, but it wasn't too off-putting. This wasn't an obvious and clichéd thriller, something different and a good story.
This book is not what I expected and while the first half of it was just ok- a bit slow..the second half takes off and the author begins to more full divulge an even deeper, authentic story. A book that is unusual and unpredictable.
Never read any books by this author but found it hard to put down once I started reading it. Wasn't sure what the outcome would be as it kept you wondering until the very end. I enjoyed it very much
I didn’t enjoy this book but I had to finish it so I suppose that says something. To me the plot was convoluted and towards the end I became bored but my curiosity carried me to the end and I was glad to finish it.
XxxThis book sounded interesting. Had to read, was kinda not into it at first but couldn't put it down. Had to find out what happened just wished it ended better w her reunited w both son and husband.
I read this over a busy weekend, I loved the story. Enough twists and turns to keep me guessing, a sincerity in its goal of telling the boundless love a mother holds.
Did Mr. Have really write this book? I read a lot of his writings, I guess a nom de plume was in order, the story was very good I read other books by Nick Craven they were also worth the read.
I enjoyed it wanted to see what happened wanted the happily ever after it was also weird but you can imagine things like this going on undercover didn't like the ending I hope there's another book
I enjoyed this book it kept me guessing. I liked that it came to a satisfying conclusion. It shows how far a mother will go for the safety of her child.
I was hooked right from the start. You were desperate to find out where it was going to take her and if she would find her son again. And the twist at the end wow.
This story was certainly different. I know it is fiction, but still seemed pretty unbelievable. A few twists kept it interesting, but I wasn’t really impressed
It took me FOREVER to finish this book! I couldn’t figure out where it was going. But once things were revealed, it made sense. I’m glad I got through it.
